********************************************************************** Progress Report, Data Services Continuation : Resident Archive Services of the Yohkoh Legacy data Archive. NNX12AG78G (2012.4.1 through 2014.3.31) Aki Takeda (PI), Loren Acton, David McKenzie, Keiji Yoshimura (Montana State University), and Samuel Freeland (Lockheed Martin Solar and Astrophysics Laboratory). ********************************************************************** (1) Achievement of the first year. We have maintained our archive securely without major troubles, and served as the prime archive of the Yohkoh data products. We are proud to report that, since the start of this grant(2012/04), our web interface keeps collecting more than 500 unique users constantly per month. Note that the number of internal access (inside MSU) and that of several known search-engine robots are not included in these numbers. Also note that these number were measured not per hits but per users who visited one of our web pages (except top-page-only access). Appendix 1 shows the variation of monthly total daily unique users. More detailed analysis is found at the following page in the YLA site. http://solar.physics.montana.edu/ylegacy/documents/YLA_stat/YLA_waccess_201212.txt Since April 2012, our E-consultant service received 2 consultations, which both request massive transfer of the data of certain calibration level. In addition to these, we received 6 requests for image permissions, 5 of which are from outside the United States. Appendix 2 is a brief summary of the consultations and requests. After 11 years from the end of Yohkoh mission, the publication of the scientific papers using Yohkoh data continues. In 2012, there reported at least 8 papers published in major journals. The papers published in 2012 are listed in Appendix 3. Along with the usual RA services, our new effort is to inject our products to general service provider like VSO, Helioviewer, and Heliophysics Event Knowledge-base, etc. That way, our products will be exposed to more users, which will increase the demand of our products. As our current attempt, we are working with the (J)Helioviewer team to make our movie quality whole-Sun images available on the Helioviewer system. We converted our level_3 FITS products to JPEG 2000 format with a few adjustment in the FITS header information to adapt their format. The files were recently submitted to the Helioviewer team, and hopefully will be on-lined shortly. In our effort for the education and public outreach, we have participated a local annual event for middle school girls, "Expand Your Horizon", since 2009. In 2012, it was held on the 12th April at Montana State University. We provided Yohkoh full-sun images observed on the birthday of each student, since the Yohkoh mission well covers the birthdays of the current middle students (1998-2000). (2) Plans for the second year. We continue to provide our Resident Archive services: - maintaining best-calibrated Yohkoh products, - providing easy and robust internet access to the world-wide users, and - providing analysis support to individual users (e-consultant service). After we see the completion of the work with Helioviewer team, we are considering to work with the SolarMonitor. Our goal is to provide our full-sun images to fill their pages for the past data (1996-2001). We appreciate the smooth transferring of the second year budget to MSU. Also, we plan to apply for the extension of the RA services beyond the present grant period. == Appendix 1. == Variation of monthly total daily unique users, 1-Apr-2012 through 31-dec-2012. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Apr.
