Solar Activity Solar activity in week 16 was slightly higher than in week 15. Two M class flares (M8.7 and M1.5) occurred on Apr. 18 (Sun) and Apr. 22 (Thu). 2. SSOC Operations OG Upload 20 April, Pass1 (930420-0309) Two new OGs were uploaded to revise HXT gain. 3. SXT Table Write Date(passs number) & Table Name 19 April, Pass5 (930419-0722) & 930419 T1 P4 ARS1 NO LONG 21 April, Pass2 (930421-0309) & 930421 T1 P2 CAL SEQUENCE 22 April, Pass3 (930422-0413) & 930422 T1 P3 ARS1 + LONG 24 April, Pass3 (930424-0411) & 930424 T1 P3 ARS1 NO LONG 4. Problems/open issues 7.1 KSC MT machine trouble A machine to read/write MT has not worked from Apr. 20. The company (Fujitsu ?) said that it is not possible to repair it just now. KSC toban has not been able to make a backup of KSC-data; they have to copy another backup data made by Fujitsu for the moment. 7.2 KSC versatec trouble A versatex machine was repaired by ASUKA toban !! 7.3 Communication on SXT Table Upload Sometimes, the fax to announce the SXT Table upload was sent to KSC/SSOC just before (around 30 min) the scheduled pass. SSOC/KSC toban will be happy if SXT chief observer will send them the SXT Table upload message as early as possible. 8. Hikitsugi Lemen san sent us a following EMail which include very important information on recent change of operation jobs. ----------------------------------------------- Hello Shibata san, Here are some items you might like to include in your report. 1. The SSOC Tohbans should always make sure to send cancellation of Strawman and Preliminary/Forecast DSN passes to JPL by Friday, 23:00 JST. These cancellations must be sent to DSN Scheduling c/o Diem Tu/Joe Espinueva. 2. Cancellation of passes from the Final schedule must be sent to Real-Time Ops (not Diem Tu). 3. A new program called cancel_dsn is now available to prepare deletions of DSN passes. Example calling sequences: IDL> cancel_dsn,17,/strawman ; Delete strawman passes IDL> cancel_dsn,16,/preliminary ; Delete preliminary/forecast IDL> cancel_dsn,15,/final ; Delete final passes This program supersedes Dave Pike's cancel_prelim program. Like cancel_prelim, it generates a FAX form. In addition, cancel_dsn generates a small ascii file with names like: $DIR_GEN_ORBIT_RAW/strawman_del.w17 ; Strawman $DIR_GEN_ORBIT_RAW/solasf_del.w16 ; Preliminary/Forecast $DIR_GEN_ORBIT_RAW/solass_del.w15 ; Final This file should be sent by E-mail to JPL. There is an alias defined in the yohkoh@flare1 account called "dsn" which can be used for this purpose. The definition is: alias dsn Donna_E_Dillard_at_JPL-B507@jplpost.Jpl.Nasa.Gov \ Tu_T_Diem_at_JPL-B507@jplpost.Jpl.Nasa.Gov \ Joseph_P_Espinueva_at_JPL-B507@jplpost.Jpl.Nasa.Gov \ waldhers@jplpost.Jpl.Nasa.Gov >From the yohkoh@flare1 account you may use the command: % mail dsn to send mail to the appropriate people. 4. dsnchk_sheet: Hara san's program has been modified so that file protection problems can be overcome. The program now writes the file to the orbit_raw directory. Also, the reference to the input file has been changed so that it will still work if isass0 goes down (which causes the software to reference isass2). 5. Old IDL versions. One problem was discovered this week which was related to the fact that flare11 is running IDL V2.2.1. isass0-4 are now running V3.0.0. It is recommended that all Flare workstations be upgraded to V3.0.0 as soon as possible. Several inefficient "work-arounds" are currently in place to cope with the fact that many computers are running old versions of IDL. The managers of the released Yohkoh software system/database will continue to support old versions of IDL until 1 July 1993, but after that, it will be the responsibility of users to upgrade their systems to V3.0.0. Most items will continue to work beyond then, but we will not continue to invest time and effort to maintain compatibility with versions prior to V3.0.0.
