SSOC Toban Report for Week 17 (April 26 - May 2) 1993 3-May-1993 SSOC T.Sakao, H.Yatagai KSC Y.Choi, M.Ohyama 1. Solar Activity Solar activity was still low during week 17. The largest event was C5.9 in GOES X-ray class which commenced on the east limb at around 0:00 UT on May 2. There were only three or four other GOES C-class events (all of them below C2) while the activity level kept below GOES C level for the rest of the time. 2. Special Operations 2-1. Offset Pointing for Straylight Calibration At the third pass of Apr.30 (930430-0205) we off-pointed the spacecraft 5.4 arc min to the East. The aim of this off-point is to take SXT straylight calibration frames for the thin Al filter with the East off-point used during SPARTAN observations. Calibration frames were successfully obtained during a day to night transition of the spacecraft (at around 3:09 UT). We re-pointed the spacecraft to the nominal position at the fourth pass of the same day (930430-0309). Both the off-point and re-point were done using the same OGs as were used during SPARTAN campaign. 2-2. SXT Table Upload 27 April, Pass4(930427-0414) 930427 T1 P4 ARS1 X-SCATTER 28 April, Pass2(930428-0104) 930428 T1 P2 DKCAL+SCAT Pass4( -0311) 930428 T2 P4 STRAY TEST Pass5( -0414) 930428 T3 P5 ARS1+SCAT 29 April, Pass4(930429-0412) 930429 T1 P4 ARS1+DFSR 30 April, Pass3(930430-0205) 930430 T1 P3 EAST STRAY Pass4( -0309) 930430 T2 P4 ARS1+LONG 1 May, Pass4(930501-0309) 930501 T1 P3 ARS1+LONG (*) (*) This table was originally planned to be uploaded at pass 3. ARS mode that is set in the table is ARS2, not ARS1. 2-3. STT Timer Set STT timer set was done on 27 April, Pass4. Next update should be done on May 4. 2-4. Errors - 26 April, Pass3 (930426-0309) SXT Bit Map Error Recovered immediately by Yobi-C command during the same pass. - 30 April, Pass1 (930429-1547) BCS Error Could not complete recovery procedure within pass 1. The error was recoverd at pass 2. 3. Operations Support Software op_first_guess program was revised by Lemen-san as is shown in the last part of this report. The revised program still seems to have some problems, especially as for timing of antenna switch (A/B) and of BDR dump start during DSN contacts at night (see item #5 in Lemen-san's e-mail below). These problems will be fixed by him soon. 4. Communications with JPL cancel_dsn program really works fine. It saves a lot of time and effort for cancelling DSN passes and notifying them to JPL. Files which are generated by cancel_dsn, i.e. strawman, preliminary, and final cancellation notification files, should also be sent to JPL by e-mail. Following alias 'dsn' is prepared on flare1 as well as on flare11 : alias dsn Donna_E_Dillard@jplpost.Jpl.Nasa.Gov \ Diem_T_Tu@jplpost.Jpl.Nasa.Gov \ Joseph_P_Espinueva@jplpost.Jpl.Nasa.Gov \ waldhers@jplpost.Jpl.Nasa.Gov Make sure content of this alias is slightly different from that in week 16 toban report. Tu_T_Diem@jplpost... does not work. As for week 20 strawman schedule, JPL sent it to us by e-mail prior to its entry to RASM. The schedule file thus obtained should be 'uudecode'-ed into an ASCII format file by a 'uudecode' command, then it can be read by cancel_dsn program. Lemen-san and Hudson-san found out how to send files to JPL via RASM. They actually sent +4 - +7 week Yohkoh schedule to JPL using this method. Therefore, there might be further changes in DSN communications procedure. Currently we are FAXing +4 - +7 week schedules (more than 20 pages) to JPL, but Lemen-san is now inquiring JPL whether we can stop FAXing them. One DSN downlink data (Apr.26 DOY-116 Goldstone 19:57-20:52 UT) was lost due to shuttle support. 5. SSOC #1 (Ichi-goh-ki) Operation Time Shuto-san prepared timer function which controls SSOC #1 operations. At present, this timer ensures SSOC #1 operations from Monday through Saturday regardless of number of users and jobs. On Sundays SSOC #1 works in the usual manner, i.e. it keeps working so long as there is any user or job. Weekly operation plans of SSOC #1 will be posted in B-toh operations room. 6. Hikitsugi Items 6-1. Next STT Timer Set May 4. 6-2. Creation of SIRIUS Database There will be no SIRIUS creation from May 2 to May 5, since these four days are holidays in Japan ('Golden Week'). SIRIUS creation will be restarted on May 6. All data that entered to DGIB queue by May 1 have already been registered to SIRIUS. TMPLOT and FLPLOT have been prepared for data until Apr.29. 6-3. Please let me know if you experience any difficulties. As I mentioned to you this afternoon, the new version will have as the default output path the following: isass0 as server: /ydb/orbit/opog isass2 as server: /2p/yohkoh_db/orbit/opog Because of the changes that have been made, you can now run op_first_guess directly from flare11 (I do not recommend flare1 because it is running an old version of IDL). At the ftp stage, you use any machine that sees the /ydb directory (in other words, you don't need to use the guest account at all on the isassX machines -- you could just use the Yohkoh@flare11 account, for example. This reduces the number of passwords that people have to know). Here is a quick summary of the changes implemented so far: 1. Output directory is now on /ydb/orbit/opog (as described above). 2. Dave Pike's cover_page.pro has been encorporated (with a couple of minor changes by me). 3. Minor change to the way the RASM files are accessed. Because DSN week and Yohkoh weeks differ by one and since the DSN week begins on Monday - not Sunday, there is a rare situation when the spacecraft holiday is on Monday and op_first_guess may not pick up all the passes. This has been corrected. 4. It is necessary for the start time to be about one hour prior to the first KSC contact. This is because the program needs to know when the previous day/night or night/day event occurred. The program now looks at the fem file and if it detects that the interval is less than one hour, it will notify the user and automatically back up the start time to one hour prior to the KSC contact. 5. As requested by Kosugi san, the offset for DSN REP in Night mode is now been changed to -3.50 min (from -3.20 min). 6. The "Mod Ctl At" on the pass sheets has been removed. I still am working on another change in the logic for the DSN REPs which occur nearly at the same time as an antenna change. I hope to have this modification installed later this week. Please let me know if there are any problems. Regards, Jim
