SSOC Toban Report for Week 18 (May 3 - May 9), 1993 10-May-1993 SSOC M. Takahashi, T. Kosugi KSC M. Ohyama, K. Shinoda 1. Solar Activity The Sun was still quiet throughout Week 18 except during several weak flares, but it seems that the activity level has been increasing since May 6. Yohkoh observed a few flares listed below (maybe incomplete): 4 May, 0250-0327, C8.3 (initial phase only) 5 , 1824-1852, C2.9, SF N15E66, NOAA 7500 (initial phase missing), FL-mode 6 , 2230-2240, C1.9, SF N16E52, NOAA 7500, FL-mode 7 , 2020-2230, M1.6, 1B N14E41, NOAA 7500, LDE event, FL-mode 2. Special Operations 2-1. Coordinated Observations with Hida and Meudon We conducted coordinated observations with Hida and Meudon since April 30 through May 9. The objectives of this coordination are high-time resolution observations of X-ray bright points, so PFI-dominant mode was chosen for SXT observing sequence. 2-2. SXT Table Upload 3 May, Pass3(930503-0104) 930503 T1 P3 DKCAL+ARS2 Pass4( -0208) 930503 T2 P4 ARS2 NO LONG 5 , Pass2(930504-1547) 930504 T1 P2 ARS2 PFI LONG Pass4(930505-0206) 930505 T2 P4 ARS2 LONG 6 , Pass2( -1444) 930505 T1 P2 ARS2 PFI LONG Pass3( -1547) 930505 T1 P3 ARS2 PFI LONG Pass4(930506-0103) 930505 T3 P4 ARS2 PFI LONG 7 , Pass4(930507-0104) 930506 T1 P3 ARS2 3X1 NORM (*) 8 , Pass2( -1342) 930507 T1 P4 ARS2 4X1 FAST (*) (*) These tables were uploaded at other passes than originally planned due to mismatches between FAX and table comment contents. The cases of mis-communication between the SXT chief observer and the KSC toban need be minimized. The SXT team will attempt to reduce the number of errors in the faxes by making new software. 2-3. STT Timer Set STT timer set was done on 4 May, Pass2. The next update should be done on Tuesday, 11 May. 2-4. Errors and Troubles (1) BCS Error -- 7 May, Pass4 (930506-1548), Recovered at Pass4. (2) S-3500 System Down -- On Tuesday, 4 May, the S3500 syatem at KSC failed during IPL (Initial Program Loading). Since then until Friday, 7 May, when an SE from Fujitsu came to KSC and checked S3500, the KSC toban used SSOC#1 terminal for quick look. At SSOC, the SXT Chief Observer, Hugh Hudson, helped the KSC toban in examining uploaded SXT tables. Since the S-3500 system recovered during the SE checking without any repair, the cause of this trouble has not yet been clarified. (3) Misoperation -- 8 May, Pass1 (930507-1239). DAY OG was not issued so that NIGHT Mode continued between Pass1 and Pass2. At Pass1 as usual we stopped the OP, revised it, and restarted it. During this short interval the timing was such that we needed issue DAY OG as ROG, which we did not realize. This was partly because the DAY OG was included in the old OP sequence, which had been stopped before DAY OG was issued automatically. Thus we need be more careful. 3. Operations Support Software Improvement - op_first_guess program was revised by Lemen-san to include automated file transfer to SSOC#1 DASD, so that manual FTP job is no longer needed. Please note that this function is made use of when SSOC#2 (NOT SSOC#1) is turned on. - op_first_guess program is still under revision for improving the DSN downlink timing. SSOC and KSC toban need carefully check the DSN REPRO start timing for those passes when S/C transits from night to day or reversely between AOS and REPRO. The correct offset time between REPRO and MAX EL times are not chosen sometimes. - Jim Lemen and Takeo Kosugi started discussion on how we can realize to improve our first DSN pass request to JPL. There are very difficult problems remaining in the algorithms to set pass priority, however, so that the revision needs some more time. 4. Communications with JPL - VERY IMPORTANT. Now we can make all communications with Non-Real-Time Scheduler at JPL via RASM. This applies only to the following: 1) send to JPL first DSN pass request 2) receive from JPL strawman schedule 3) send to JPL deletion request for strawman schedule 4) receive from JPL preliminary schedule 5) send to JPL deletion request for preliminary schedule 6) receive from JPL final schedule For items 1), 3) and 5), we need not send FAX's any more. However, for a while, we need to send the same messages not only via RASM but also via EMail for backup. Remember that a cancellation request for the final schedule should be sent to Real-Time-Scheduler via FAX. <<< NEW MANUAL concerning RASM file transmission is prepared.>>> - Last week we received the strawman schedule for week 21 not on Friday but on Saturday via RASM. The scheduled delivery time, 18:00 PST on Thursday (10:00 JST on Friday) was not kept, so that we could not send the deletion request before the end of JPL office hours on Friday. 5. Hikitsugi Items 5-1. Next STT Timer Set 11 May. 5-2. SIRIUS / TMPLOT / FLPLOTTM SIRIUS ... till 6 May TMPLOT ... till 5 May FLPLOTTM ... till 5 May 5-3. Next Tobans SSOC H. Hara, H. Fukushima KSC S.
