SSOC Tohban Report for Week 41 ( 11 OCT - 18 OCT, 1993 ) M. Sawa and J. Lemen (SSOC) G. Kawai and M. Noguchi (KSC) 0.General The E/W offpoint was done on 13 Oct 1993 (JST). The offpoint operations went smoothly, despite the fact that the Star Tracker was eclipsed during most of the week. This was a "seven pass" week, as the first KSC contact at the end of the week was just starting to occur slightly before midnight. 1.Solar Activity Solar Activity for this week was generally low. Most of the activity was from AR 7597 which produced the largest flare of the week, a C1.5. During the latter part of the week, the average GOES level decreased and is now below B1 level. 2.SSOC Operations 2-1. SXT Table Changes Oct 12, Pass3(931011-1341) 930911 T1 P3 ARS1 DARK CAL Oct 13, Pass2(931012-1134) 931012 T1 P2 DEEP CORONA E Oct 13, Pass4(931012-1341) 931012 T2 P4 ARS1 STD Oct 15, Pass2(931015-1032) 931015 T1 P@ ARS1 STD 2-2. STT Timer Set STT timer was set on 16 Oct. The next setting should be done on 19 Oct. 3.Error and Problems o BCS had no errors o SXT had no specific errors. There was a problem during one SXT table upload caused by a problem with the A-400 computer, but this was resolved during the pass with no effect on operations. o GBO mail was sometimes delayed because of network problems at/to KSC. 4.Special Operations and Calibrations 4-1. Offset pointing The 8' east/west offset pointing was done from pass 2 to pass 4 on 13 Oct. 4-2. HXT Calibration was done during three night time KSC passes. 931011-1236, 931013-1238, 931015-1136 5. DSN data Three Goldstone passes were canceled on 15 Oct (at 09:32, 11:16, 13:00) because of the slip in the Space shuttle launch. Because of the timing of the KSC contacts relative to the time of the canceled passes, we were unable to modify the OP load, and this data was lost, including one SXT terminator image. A message from Joe Espinueva arrived for Yamada san which describes the imminent upgrade of the DSN telemetry system. Tests to the ISAS Gateway may be conducted. Last week's DSN report from Joe Espinueva came in a coded format which we could not read. We sent a message to JE to describing the problem. There are several manuals which describe the DSN/RASM operations which are mostly correct, but need slight revisions. Over the next couple of weeks, JRL will attempt to consolidate and update the manual. 6.Hikitsugi 6-1. Tobans in week 42 SSOC S. Watari, F. Farnik KSC G. Kawai, T. Sakao 6-2. Next STT Timer SET The STT timer is due to be set again on 19 Oct. 6-3. Offset Pointing 8' east/west offpoint operations on 20 Oct between passes 2 and 4. 6-4. Terminator program We reviewed the terminator program and discovered that the procedure described in the original manual (1-Sep-93 by H. Hudson) was not being followed correctly. In fact, it does not appear that we have obtained, by design, any good terminator images for the preceding few weeks (although we continue to obtain one or two a week by accident). We have modified the procedure and have made a change to OP_FIRST_GUESS to help future SSOC tohbans insert the correct commands. We have also updated the Terminator Manual. Please continue the terminator program during the weekday passes.
