SSOC Tohban report for Week 43 (25 October - 31 October 1993) K.D. Leka, N. Nitta (SSOC) T. Sakao, Y. Hanaoka (KSC) 1. General There were two problems which occurred, neither of which resulted in any long-term problems. These are described in section 6. 2. Solar activity was generally low but 8 C-level flares and 32 >B2 flares occurred. The SXT was operating in a campaign-mode in collaboration with Pic du Midi and Meudon for the entire week, primarily in ARS2 mode (see below). As per the gbo mail on 27 October, a spectacular south-pole XRB/jet was observed at approximately 12:50UT. 3. SSOC operations 3.1 SXT Table Write: Oct 25 Pass2 (0826) 931025 T1 P2 ARS2 STD (Changed to T1 P3 ARS2 STD) (Recovery - table written Pass4(1032)) Oct 26 Pass2 (0723) 931026 T1 P2 ARS2 DKCAL Oct 27 Pass2 (0723) 931027 T1 P2 DEEP CORONA E Oct 27 Pass4 (0930) 931027 T2 P4 ARS2 STD Oct 29 Pass2 (0721) 931029 T1 P2 ARS2 STD Oct 30 Pass2 (0722) 931030 T1 P2 ARS1 STD 3.2 STT Timer Set STT timer was set on 26 October. The next setting should be done on Tuesday 2 November. 4. Special Operations 4.1 Offset pointing The 8' deep corona offset pointing east/west was performed On Wednesday 27 October between Passes 2 and 4. 4.2 Campaign with France SXT was in ARS2 mode primarily during the week, following NOAA 7605 until switching to NOAA 7608 on 27 October. 4.3 Terminator images were included for all OP's except the weekend OP. No other calibrations for individual instruments were performed. 5. DSN data 5.1 The final DSN schedule for week 44 was unchanged, as was the preliminary schedule for week 45. The strawman cancellations were sent to RASM and DSN as prescribed. The SSOC Tohbans request that additional documentation be provided for the idl routine "cancel_dsn", as per the annotations in the Tohban manual. 6. Errors 6.1 SSOC Tohbans did not see any 'Error no. 155' from the mainframe. 6.2 Spacecraft Error: An SEU error for SXT was found on Monday, 25 October, Pass 1, and was cleared by the standard recovery plan. The associated SXT-J error flag needed an additional command which was issued on the subsequent pass. Normal spacecraft operations resumed by Pass 5. 6.3 OP transmission problem: An error in the OP transmission procedure on October 28 caused a non-revised OP to be uploaded instead of a revised OP. Fortunately the revision consisted of one minor night command and no satellite errors occurred. The SSOC tohbans believe that the manual documenting the OP editing should stress more clearly that there are two procedures which must accompany any OP revision specifically the need to re-enter an OP into the queue in addition to transmitting it to KSC, e.g. an edited OP is not necessarily in the queue even though the original is. 7. Notes for next Tohbans 7.1 week 44 Tohbans: SSOC: Magara, Yatagai KSC: Hanaoka, Kato_Y 7.2 the RASM password is due to expire on Tuesday 7.3 The mainframe 2 password should be changed on Monday 7.4 the STT timer set should be performed on Tuesday 7.5 Offset pointing should occur Wednesday 3 November between Pass 2,4. 7.6 OP write and pass sheets for Monday, 1 November have been completed and transmitted to KSC. The first passes of concern (for new tables) for the w44 tohbans are Tuesday's. 7.7 A CCD-bakeout is planned for Saturday, 11/06/93. 7.8 Discussion should continue about what Yohkoh should do to the transit of Mercury on 6 November. 8. Manuals At the Ops meeting, improvement of the tohban manuals were discussed. Although no definite conclusion was made, it was agreed that every tohban will mail suggested changes to Watanabe_Te san, Kosugi san and Sterling san when s/he finds a problem
