SSOC TOBAN REPORT FOR WEEK 21 (23 May - 30 May 1994) SSOC: T. Sakao KSC: H. Fukushima and M. Shimojo 1. SOLAR ACTIVITY Solar activity was very low last week. The GOES background was slightly below the B-level at the beginning of the week while it further declined after May 25. White-light sketches at Mitaka reported that there was no sunspot observed after that day. The largest flare which occurred last week was B7.3 on May 24. 2. STANDARD OPERATIONS 2.1 SXT table uploads Date (UT) Pass Pass ID Table ID --------- ---- ----------- ---------------------- May 23 2 940523-0516 940523 P2 FIX CE OBS-4 24 2 940524-0517 940524 P1 FIX CE OBS-5 25 2 940525-0514 940525 P2 FIX CE OBS-6 26 4 940526-0721 940526 P4 ARS1 DKCAL 27 2 940527-0515 940527 P2 FIX CE OBS-7 28 2 940528-0412 940528 P2 ARS1 STD+LONG SXT tables were uploaded frequently so as to support the chromospheric ejection campaign. 2.2 STT timer set STT Timer was set on May 17 (Tue), at ~11:00 UT (940517-0722). Next timer set is due on May 31 (Tue). 2.3 QUIET RATE MEDIUM in SAA QUIET RATE MEDIUM/HIGH commands have been manually added to OPs. 3. SPECIAL OPERATIONS The chromospheric ejection campaign, led by Brigitte Schmieder, continued last week. Four SXT tables were uploaded to support this campaign. There was no spacecraft offpoint last week. 4. ERRORS AND PROBLEMS 4.1 SXT errors SXT BIT MAP error occurred twice last week (May 23 pass 1 and May 25 pass 1). Both of them were recovered immediately by KSC tobans by Yobi-C command. 4.2 DP error clear SSOC toban asked KSC to issue a DP discrete command (DC) 16H [Error Cancel] in the 4th pass of May 23 (Mon) so as to clear a DP error flag (CMDER). However, a KSC commander mistakenly issued a DP block command (BC) 16H instead. As such a BC does not exist, another error flag (BCUDE; notifying that the issued BC is nonexistent) was set. Since the KSC commander seemed not fully be aware of how to issue the Error Cancel command and since the flag CMDER has nothing to do with satellite operations (note that the CMDER flag is set, e.g., whenever a single command is issued twice), we decided not to execute the DC to avoid potential danger. The BCUDE error flag was reset after issuing other BCs. 4.3 CANCEL_DSN / OP_FIRST_GUESS printouts If we run OP_FIRST_GUESS following CANCEL_DSN in a single IDL session, printouts of pass sheets will come out in an inappropriate way (e.g. 'landscape' instead of 'portrait'). This happens because output settings made in CANCEL_DSN are not re-set. I would appreciate very much if someone modify the CANCEL_DSN program. 4.4 isass0 down isass0 was not available on May 26 (Thu) due to a disk trouble. However, thanks to an excellent automatic backup system on isass2, I found no difficulty in toban activities, i.e. preparing OPs, using RASM, and making schedules for Yohkoh DSN downlinks. 5. DSN COMMUNICATIONS 5.1 DSN schedule delivery No delay in the schedule delivery was found last week. Forecast (Preliminary) schedule arrived on Thursday, one day ahead of the schedule. 5.2 Re-transmission request The following four Madrid passes have been repeatedly requested for re-transmission. Date BOT EOT # of frames stored in SIRIUS (normal: ~82,000) ------ ----- ----- ---------------------------------------------- May 6 1:12 1:23 ~20,000 16 20:19 20:27 0 17 22:21 22:30 ~1,500 22 17:10 17:19 0 Part (or all) of these data are corrupted (e.g. time tags are unavailable) and hence cannot be stored in the SIRIUS database. JPL tried to re-transmit these passes in response to my request on May 25 (Wed), but so far no complete data has been sent. I again asked for re-transmission on May 28 (Sat). Except for the above four passes, all DSN data until May 24 have been stored in SIRIUS. 5.3 DSN e-mail addresses All of the DSN e-mail addresses with an alias of 'dsn' were not reachable last week. Also I found that the addresses of DSN personnels (alias 'dsn') were different between flare11 and flare1. I FAXed JPL for inquiring the correct addresses. 6. YOHKOH/ASCA PASS CONFLICTS There will be a pass conflict with ASCA on June 2 (Thu), at ~9:20 UT. ASCA will use this pass and we will have only four KSC contacts on that day. Tracking diagrams for Yohkoh and ASCA did not come out from the flare1 printer on Wednesday. I made use of the diagram which Hara san prepared on Monday (May 23). 7. HIKITSUGI ITEMS 7.1 Tobans for week 22 (May 30 - June 6) SSOC: B. LaBonte and T. Yoshida KSC: M. Shimojo and M. Ohyama 7.2 STT timer set May 31 (Tue). 7.3 QUIET RATE MEDIUM in SAA Please remember the following rules for inserting QUIET RATE MEDIUM/HIGH commands to OPs: (1) Duration of daytime SAA >~ 20 minutes. (2) QUIET RATE MEDIUM command 7 minutes after RB HV RDCT ON (= 13 intervals). (3) QUIET RATE HIGH command 7 minutes before RB HV RDCT OFF (= " ). (4) Do not insert these commands wherever it is already QUIET RATE MED (after KSC LOS (QT-MED), DSN LOS (QT-MED)). 7.4 Yohkoh/ASCA pass conflicts Please consult with Nagase san (rm. 1611, ex. 2611). At present, it is SSOC toban's job to negotiate with ASCA people for the next week schedule. End of report
