SSOC TOBAN REPORT FOR WEEK 24 ( 13-June - 20-June 1994) SSOC: K. Shibasaki and T. Metcalf KSC: K. Yaji and T. Yoshida 1. SOLAR ACTIVITY ---------------------------------------- Solar activity was very low last week. There was one C-class flare: 16 June, 23:40 UT. 2. STANDARD OPERATIONS ---------------------------------------- 2.1 SXT table uploads Date (UT) Pass Pass ID Table ID --------- ---- ----------- ----------------------- Jun 13 2 940613-1444 940613 P2 ARS1 STD+LONG Jun 14 2 940614-1445 940614 P2 ARS0 XBP TEST Jun 14 3 940614-1548 940614 P3 ARS1 STD+LONG Jun 15 2 940615-1342 940615 P2 ARS1 STD+LONG Jun 16 1 940616-1239 940616 P1 ARS2 XBP CAMP Jun 17 4 940617-0102 940617 P4 ARS1 STD+LONG Jun 17 1 940617-1340 940617 P1 ARS0 XBP CAMP Jun 18 4 940618-0102 940618 P4 ARS1 STD+LONG Jun 19 1 940619-1238 940619 P1 ARS0 XBP CAMP Jun 19 4 940619-1548 940619 P4 ARS1 STD+LONG 2.2 STT timer set Executed on 13 June Pass 3. 2.3 Changes to OP_FIRST_GUESS From Jim Lemen: o The program was modified to automatically insert a QUIET RATE MED OG at the time of SAAs. The switch to MED RATE will done at Switch to MED RATE at: RB HV RDCT ON + 13*32s (=6.9333 min) Switch to HIGH RATE at: RB HV RDCT OFF - 13*32s (=6.9333 min) The switch won't be made if any of the following is true: 1. SAA is entirely in Night 2. Already in MED rate at RD HV RDCT ON 3. Length of Daylight time in MED rate is less 5 minutes 4. Any DSN operations occur with the SAA o The terminator selection program was altered slightly. In Feb 1994 Mons Morrison re-generated the Yohkoh FEM files to include sunset times that were accurate to 1 sec (using the results from get_sunset). Barry Labonte did a small study last week and found that terminator images taken within 8 sec of the the predicted D/N terminator were not usable for straylight correction. So op_first_guess now consults the the fem file (using tim2orbit,tim2night=tim2night) and does not include the terminator if it would be taken within 10s of the D/N terminator. Since there is a 32s OP command cadence, some terminator opportunities just have to be missed. The change to the algorithm should mean that a much higher fraction of the terminators that are programmed will be useful. o op_first_guess now displays the output of contacts after the desired times are entered so that the user can verify that he has selected the correct KSC passes. 3. SPECIAL OPERATIONS ---------------------------------------- A HIDA observing campaign was last week on 13-15 June. An X-Ray bright point campaign started on Jun 16 and continues into next week. There was no spacecraft offpoint last week. 4. ERRORS AND PROBLEMS ---------------------------------------- 4.1 Flare 4 Computer Problem. On 16 Jun, flare 4 went down and we could not run op_first_guess for about 1 hour. 4.2 SXT SYNC1 ERROR. On 17 June Pass 2, an SXT SYNC1 ERROR occurred. It was not cleared by a Yobi-A command, so a Yobi-B command was sent. SXT recovered on the following pass (SXT Recovery number 1-A). 4.3 Sun Angle (TFSS) On June 17, the KSC tobans noted that the Sun Angle (TFSS) is smaller than the lower limit of 0.09. The Sun angle is now typically less than 0.08. 5. DSN COMMUNICATIONS ------------------------------------------ 5.1 DSN schedule delivery All schedule were delivered on time. 5.2 Re-transmission request We requested 4 DSN data retransmissions: In each of these 4 data sets, all time intervals were set to the maximum values. We received the following data for the second time but the problem was the same. We requested that they re-read the data tapes. 155 (June 4) 11:11 - 11:22 (Madrid) 161 (June 10) 08:02 - 08:13 (Madrid) We requested retransmission of the following data for the first time. 162 (June 11) 08:22 - 08:33 (Madrid) 163 (June 12) 07:00 - 07:09 (Madrid) 5.3 Data Transfer Gateway Problems At the following times JPL informed us that there was a data transfer gateway problem. The problem was at JPL and has been corrected. June 13, 18:00 UT June 15, 13:15 UT 6. YOHKOH/ASCA PASS CONFLICTS --------------------------------- There was one pass conflict in week 24, on June 13. ASCA took that pass, and Yohkoh had only 4 passes on June 13. In week 25 there are 3 conflicts, on June 21, June 22, and June 24: June 21 Yohkoh will take the pass. JUne 22 ASCA will take the pass. June 24 Both Yohkoh and ASCA will operate, but Yohkoh must stop operations early to allow time to change to ASCA. There is a new notebook to hold pass conflict information. 7. HIKITSUGI ITEMS 7.1 Tobans for week 25 (June 13 - June 20 1994) SSOC: S. Kubo and B. Handy KSC: T. Yoshida and J. Sato 7.2 Sunday Operation The holiday between weeks 25 and 26 will be Monday morning rather than Sunday morning. 7.3 STT timer set Timer should be set as soon as possible. 7.4 Yohkoh/ASCA pass conflicts Please consult with Nagase san (rm. 1611, ex. 2611). At present, it is SSOC toban's job to negotiate with ASCA people for the next week schedule. 7.5 Scheduled Network Downtime ISAS internet is scheduled to be down from 09:00 to 18:00 JST on Sunday June 26 and from 09:00 to 18:00 JST on Sunday July 3. There will be no internet connection to the outside world, although solar subnetwork connections should not be affected. 7.6 Flare3 Computer Flare3 was moved to KSC. End of report
