SSOC TOBAN REPORT FOR WEEK 25 ( 20-June - 26-June 1994) SSOC: S. Kubo and B. Handy KSC: T. Yoshida and J. Sato 1. SOLAR ACTIVITY --------------------------------------------- Solar activity was extremely low last week. There were two B-class Flares and a C-class flare on 24-Jun. The C-class flare fell during S/C night. 2. STANDARD OPERATIONS ---------------------------------------- 2.1 SXT table uploads JST day Table ID KSC contact start time Monday 940619 P1 ARS0 XBP CAMP 20-Jun-94 0343 JST Monday 940619 P4 ARS1 STD+LONG 20-Jun-94 0851 JST Tuesday 940620 P1 ARS0 XBP CAMP 21-Jun-94 0221 JST Tuesday 940620 P4 ARS1 DKCAL 21-Jun-94 0728 JST Wednesday 940621 P1 ARS0 XBP CAMP 22-Jun-94 0240 JST Wednesday 940621 P3 ARS1 STD+LONG 22-Jun-94 0606 JST Thursday 940622 P1 ARS0 XBP CAMP 23-Jun-94 0118 JST Thursday 940622 P4 ARS1 STD+LONG 23-Jun-94 0626 JST 2.2 STT timer set Executed on 20 June Pass 3. Expires 2-July. 2.3 CHANGES TO OP_FIRST_GUESS J. Lemen has made some modifications to op_first_guess. Op_first_guess had a bug which prevented it from correctly handling an SAA pass on the first orbit. Also, the algorithm was modified to correctly handle weekend OP's. See the attached memo from Jim Lemen for more explicit details. 3. SPECIAL OPERATIONS ---------------------------------------- The X-ray bright point campaign started last week continued through July 23. There was no spacecraft offpoint last week. There was an HXT calibration uploaded on 25-June-94 Pass 1. 4. ERRORS AND PROBLEMS ---------------------------------------- 4.1 OP_FIRST_GUESS. OP_FIRST_GUESS had developed a bug as a side effect of last week's modifications to insert QT-MED during SAA's. The software was not correctly inserting this command on the first orbit if the satellite passed through the SAA. These commands were manually inserted the entire week. There was also some misunderstanding on the part of the SSOC Tobans regarding the op_first_guess rules. Yohkoh should run in QT-MED only on passes with total daylight time of >130 minutes. S/C night is not included in this calculation. 4.2 KRASM Modem The modem at FLARE11 locked up once this week, and it was necessary to reboot the system to get the modem working properly. 4.3 SXT Table Error, 25-Jun-94. a. The SXT table was uploaded at P2 instead of P4. The table was incorrectly labled 'P2'. b. The KSC Tobans noted an ambiguous interpretation of the MED and HI mode commands between P2 and P3. c. During the fourth pass, approximately 1% of the SXT data was lost due to receiver difficulties. This type of error is common after an earthquake. This is the first time this sort of error has occurred without an earthquake. The Facom engineers are researching this problem. 5. DSN COMMUNICATIONS ------------------------------------------ 5.1 DSN schedule delivery All schedules were delivered on time. 5.2 Re-transmission request We requested 5 DSN data retransmissions: We requested retransmission of the following data for a second time. It was requested last week, but DSN did not respond to our request. 155 (June 4) 11:11 - 11:22 (Madrid) 161 (June 10) 08:02 - 08:13 (Madrid) 162 (June 11) 08:22 - 08:33 (Madrid) 163 (June 12) 07:00 - 07:09 (Madrid) Also, we requested for the first time the following data: 171 (June 20) 16:02 - 16:23 (Goldstone) 6. YOHKOH/ASCA PASS CONFLICTS --------------------------------- There is one pass conflict in week 26, on June 29. ASCA will take that pass. There were three pass conflicts in week 25, on June 21, 22, and 24: June 21 Yohkoh took the pass. June 22 ASCA took the pass. June 24 Both Yohkoh and ASCA operated. Yohkoh stopped early to allow time to change to ASCA. There is a new notebook to hold pass conflict information. 7. HIKITSUGI ITEMS 7.1 Tobans for week 25 (June 13 - June 20 1994) SSOC: T. Kosugi and H. Hudson KSC: J. Sato and S. Kawashima 7.2 STT timer set Timer should be set as soon as possible. 7.3 FACOM Mainframe Please delete outdated OP files on mainframe each week. Once the number of files reaches some maximum, it is no longer possible to ftp files from the flare workstations to the mainframe. 7.4 Yohkoh/ASCA pass conflicts Please consult with Nagase san (rm. 1611, ex. 2611). At present, it is SSOC toban's job to negotiate with ASCA people for the next week schedule. 7.5 Holiday Schedule SSOC tobans are now responsible for determining the holiday schedule four weeks in advance, based on DSN and KSC pass usage. This information is kept in the Yohkoh/ASCA Pass conflict notebook. End of report =========================================================================== op_first_guess memo 24-jun-94 1. The algorithm for programming KSC LOS QT Med was modified. op_first_guess will only program the last 2 KSC contacts on the 2nd day as LOS QT Med. Previously, all KSC contacts on the next day had KSC LOS set to QT Med rate. This is appropriate for a normal weekday OP load, but when one is preparing Friday's table load, which specifies the next table load for Saturday's fourth pass, it is better if the first 3 KSC contacts are LOS QT High. If the OP is prepared with 5 passes on Saturday, the first three passes will be LOS QT High and the last two LOS QT Med. If there are only enough OP slots for 4 KSC contacts on Saturday, the first two KSC contacts will be LOS QT High and the last two LOS QT Med. In this case the SSOC Tohbans might decide to manually change to LOS QT HIGH, depending on circumstances. 2. REMINDER: The criteria for the LOS QT M OG to be issued is if the amount of SUNLIGHT TIME between contacts is 130 min or greater. The KSC Tohbans were confused about this point. Please update the KSC documentation. The op_first_guess printout was changed to read: 130.00 (min) Sunlight-time threshold for los (QT M) 3. A bug was repaired which was causing op_first_guess to fail to include the SAA_begin -- QT-Rate-M -- QT-Rate-H -- SAA_end sequence after the first KSC contact. This has been corrected. The SSOC Tohbans entered these by hand this week.
