SSOC TOBAN REPORT FOR WEEK 32 (8 August to 15 August 1994) SSOC: Kyo Akita KSC: T. Sakao, Wakabayashi 1. SOLAR ACTIVITY -------------------------------------------------------------- Solar activity is rising this week. The GOES data indicates that the X-ray level has increased from low-A to B. This is mainly due to the newly born active region, NOAA 7765, which produced many small flares. Fortunately, SXT has been observing this active region from its early developing stage, owing to the SXT chief observer's foresight. 2. STANDARD OPERATIONS --------------------------------------------------------- 2.1 SXT table uploads JST day Table ID 08-Aug-94 940807 P4 ARS1 DKCAL 09-Aug-94 940808 P2 ARS1 S-OFFPNT [ROG 56h (S/C 8' SOUTH OFFPOINT)] 940808 P3 ARS1 STD+LONG [ROG 20h (S/C NORMAL)] 10-Aug-94 940809 P2 CCD BAKEOUT 12-Aug-94 940811 P4 ARS1 STD+LONG 13-Aug-94 940812 P2 ARS1 STD+LONG 2.2 STT timer set STT timer was set on Wednsday( Pass 2 on 10-Aug ). 3. SPECIAL OPERATIONS ------------------------------------------------------ 3.1 CCD BAKEOUT CCD BAKOUT was successfully done over two days (10-12 August). 3.2 South Offpoint 9-Aug ROG 56h(S/C SOUTH) (P2) ( Offset Pointing) ROG 20h(S/C NORMAL)(P3) 3.3 Terminator Images at South Offpoint Two terminator images were taken at offpoint position (8' south) on 12 August. 4. ERRORS AND PROBLEMS ------------------------------------------------------- 4.1 SXT Errors Bit Map Error: 940807-1237 ( 1st pass, 8 Aug 94) 940812-1333 ( 1st pass, 13 Aug 94) Errors were recovered successfully. 4.2 BCS Errors A BCS recovery sequence was executed successfully during Pass 1 and 2 on 13 August 1994 in response to an possible SEU error, which was found by Harra-san when she noticed there were no BCS data since the second pass of the previous day. KSC Tobans did not notice because there was no error message on the QL screen. However, it can be recognized by keeping an eye on BCS Hi-voltage and each channel's data counts, as long as the satellite is in day time during KSC contact. 4.3 Typhoon hit KSC on weekend Due to the strong wind and power outage brought by Typhoon, the last three operaions on 13-Aug were cancelled. Fortunately, the OP was uploaded at the 1st pass and the loss of DSN contacts was minimized. 4.4 Yohkoh/ASCA negotiation for KSC pass conflicts There seem to be a misunderstanding concerning the procedure for resolving KSC pass conflicts. ASCA's tohban manual says that the negotiation must be first done by KSC tobans. With this result, SSOC-Nagase meeting will be held to finalize the schedule. ---> ASCA's manual should be corrected? Nogotiation must be done only at Sagamihara. KSC tobans of Yohkoh and ASACA may discuss about the schedule, but it's not neccessary. 4.5 Op_first_guess problem KSC/AOS-DAY was placed 1 step before DAY OG in the OP list for the 4th pass of 14-Aug. KSC/AOS-DAY was changed manually to KSC/AOOS-NIGHT. The OP_FISRT_GUESS ought to be modified ? ---> Ask Lemen-san. 5. DSN COMMUNICATIONS ------------------------------------------------------- 5.1 DSN schedule delivery All schedules were normally delivered early or on time. 5.2 Re-transmission requests The data for the Madrid pass for 29-Jul-94 at 09:13 (DOY=210) was retransmitted to be found corrupted again. A fax for re-retransmission was sent, but the data has not arrived yet. If the data is corrupted next time, we may need to ask DSN operators to recreat the data from its original tape archive. ---> Just request transmission of data. It would not be wise to suggest them what else to do, since we don't know their system very well. 5.3 Real-time cancel Due to the Typhoon, 7 DSN passes were cancelled. --->For urgent real-time cancel, tobans should call Real-time OPs to make sure that the fax is read. 6. YOHKOH/ASCA PASS CONFLICTS ---------------------------------------------- One KSC passes was lost during Week 32 because of conflict with ASCA (5th passe on 11 Aug). We are going to lose the 5th pass on 15-Aug during Week 33. 7. Holiday Schedule --------------------------------------------------------- The next holiday will be on 20 August. 8. HIKITSUGI ITEMS ---------------------------------------------------------- 8.1 Tobans for week 33 SSOC: Akita, Koyama KSC: Sakao, Ishido 8.2 STT Timer Set The STT timer will be set on Tuesay. 8.3 Daily sun-spot region maps from NOAA One of the printers at KSC is not fixed. SSOC toban should send a daily NOAA sun-spot region map to KSC every morning. 8.4 Bon holidays Katano-san and Sugawara-san(SIRIUS) are taking a week's holiday. ---------- End of report. Peace!
