SOLAR ACTIVITY -------------------------------------------------------------- Solar activity was more active this week. The GOES data indicates that the X-ray level has been a little lower than B. As was expected, the NOAA region 7765 produced several M-class flares. The Largest was M4 on 14-Aug and was observed by Yohkoh successfully. However, the activity seems decreasing toward the end of the week, as 7765 approaching the limb. SPECIAL OPERATIONS ------------------------------------------------------ 3.1 South Offpoint 16-Aug ROG 56h(S/C SOUTH) (P2) ( Offset Pointing) ROG 20h(S/C NORMAL)(P3) 3.2 Terminator Images at South Offpoint One terminator image was taken at offpoint position (8' south) on 19 August. 3.3 HXT CAL HXT CAL was done on three passes. (Pass 2 on 17-Aug, Pass2 and Pass3 on 18-Aug) 4. ERRORS AND PROBLEMS ------------------------------------------------------- 4.1 SXT Errors Bit Map Error: 940819-0824 ( 1st pass, 20 Aug 94) Was recovered successfully on the same pass. 4.2 Op_first_guess AOS time AOS time on the command sheets prepared by op_first_guess is alwasy almost one minute later than that of AOSLOS output. Is there any reason it should be so? It will delay the start of operations a bit (may not affect much, though). E-mail was sent to Lemen san inquiring this problem. 5. DSN COMMUNICATIONS ------------------------------------------------------- 5.1 DSN schedule delivery Strawman schedule was not delivered on time. Itoh san had to make several phone calls to JPL asking for the data. It was delivered on Saturday morning. 5.2 Data transmission gateway problem The gateway to transmitt the DSN data had been down since last Saturday. It was recovered on Friday. We don't know what caused this trouble yet. 5.3 Re-transmission requests none. 6. YOHKOH/ASCA PASS CONFLICTS ---------------------------------------------- One KSC passes were lost during Week 33 because of conflict with ASCA (5th pass on 14-Ayg ). Two passes will be lost during Week34 ( 5th passes on 23-Aug and 25 Aug ). 7. Holiday Schedule --------------------------------------------------------- The next holiday will be on 28 August. ( 7days operation for week 34 ) 8.
