SSOC TOBAN REPORT FOR WEEK 34 (22 - 28 August 1994) SSOC: S. Masuda, N. Nitta KSC: Y. Ishido, S. Yasuno 1. SOLAR ACTIVITY ---------------------------------------------------------- As the flare-productive region AR 7765 went behind the western limb, solar activity decreased considerably with the GOES level in the non-flaring period staying almost at A1. AR 7770 did not grow as much as we had expected. Three of the four low-B class flares listed below were our only ``major'' harvest during the week - the last one occurred in Yohkoh night. SPECIAL OPERATIONS ------------------------------------------------------ 3.1 South Offpoint 22-Aug-94 P2 : ROG 56h(S/C SOUTH 8') P3 : ROG 20h(S/C NORMAL) 3.2 HXT Gain Adjustment and HXT CAL HXT Gain Adjustment was done at Pass 2 on 22-Aug-94. HXT CAL was also done at three passes (Pass 3, 4 and 5 on the same day.) 4. ERRORS AND PROBLEMS ------------------------------------------------------- 4.1 SXT Error Bit Map Error: 940824-0721 (Pass 1 on 24-Aug-94) - recovered successfully during the same pass. 4.2 KSC power outage KSC passes 1 and 2 on 26-Aug-94 had to be cancelled because of temporary power outage that occasionally happens at KSC. This time, although yet to be confirmed, a thunder storm gave rise to the power outage. Despite the fact that the OP did not extend beyond the second pass, we resumed sending commands to the satellite at pass 3 and uploaded the new OP which was originally scheduled for pass 1. After the fourth pass, everything became normal. There was another power outage on 27-Aug-94, but the operations were unaffected. 4.3 Hara-san's routine to show KSC pass conflicts An IDL routine ``cfiles2lpr'' (coded by H. Hara together with other lower level routines) runs as a cron job every Monday morning to print out a postscript file that graphically shows Yohkoh-ASCA pass conflicts at KSC for the coming week. It did not work on 22-Aug-94, however, because the temporary directory the output is created was full. If every toban is going to use this postscript file, we suggest that a more secure directory be used. We will discuss it with the LPARL software people. 4.4 Untraceable DSN cancellations We requested DSN to transmit the unreceived data of two Goldstone passes DOY 225/1017-1028 and 225/1345-1354, since our OP included those passes. However, we received a message from DSN saying that they had been cancelled due to ETS-VI support. It is a mystery why these cancellations were not incorporated in the OP. 5. DSN COMMUNICATIONS ------------------------------------------------------- 5.1 DSN strawman schedule for w36 The strawman schedule for w36 was not delivered on time last week on rasm, as the previous SSOC tohbans reported; it arrived only on Monday, 22-Aug-94. It happened that there was no DSN conflict in the schedlue, so we did not have to meet with Drs. Itoh and Skinner (ASCA) for w36. The strawman for w37 arrived on time. 5.2 Re-transmission requests (1) On 23-Aug-94, we requested retransmission of the 18 passes of DSN data that were not completely received due presumably to the gateway problem, which was mentioned by last week's tohbans. On 25-Aug-94, we confirmed the arrival of 9 passes of data and re-requested the remaining 9 and one additional pass (DOY 223 0313-0324), which was found to be also missing. 5.3 Re-transmission requests (2) On 26-Aug-94 we confirmed that all of the requested DSN data were received. However, the subcontractor who is in charge of creating Sirius database told us that some of them (5 passes) were not quite readable. We therefore requested over the phone their re-re-transmission. 6. YOHKOH/ASCA PASS CONFLICTS ---------------------------------------------- Two KSC passes were lost during Week 34 because of conflict with ASCA (pass 5 of 23-Aug-94 and also 25-Aug-94). Two passes will be lost during Week 35 (pass 5 of 29-Aug-94 and 3-Sep-94). 7. Holiday Schedule --------------------------------------------------------- The next holiday will be on 4-Sep-94. 8. HIKITSUGI ITEMS ---------------------------------------------------------- 8.1 Tohbans for week 35 SSOC: L. Harra and K. Yoshimura KSC: S. Yasuno and A. Takeda 8.2 STT Timer Set The next STT timer set is due on Tuesday. 8.3 The RASM password expires on Tuesday in Californian time. 9. NEW ITEMS DISCUSSED AT WOM ----------------------------------------------- Bob Bentley asked Ogawara san if it is possible for Ms. Katano, NEC person working almost full-time for Yohkoh, (1) to transfer DSN final schedule on RASM every morning and (2) to do SXT TIMER SET. These rather mechanical tasks have so far been undertaken by the SSOC tohbans. Both Prof. Ogawara and Ms. Katano herself agreed to this suggestion, but one always has to recall that Ms. Katano is available only Tuesday - Friday mornings. On other days, the tohbans must transfer final schedule on RASM. Bob made another suggestion on how to assign tohbans, but Prof. Ogawara turned it down largely because of financial reasons.
