Solar Activity ------------------------------------------------------------ In last week, 3 C-class flares and 25 B-class flares occurred. On Oct. 24, NOAA7790 which showed relatively high activity disappeared behind the west limb. On Oct. 27, four active regions appeared at eastern hemisphere and flare activity increased again.. 2. Special Operation ------------------------------------------------------- 3.1 Rehearsal for the Eclipse Observation and the Walker's Rocket Flight The Walker's rocket flight was delayed to Nov. 3, 1994, which is just after the eclipse observation. Last week, we had test operations for joint observations of the eclipse and the delayed Walker's rocked flight. Following operations are also concerning with this rehearsal. 3.2 Hard S/H DIS and Hard S/H ENA Hard S/H DIS was sent at pass 1 on Oct. 27, 1994 just after SXT table write operation. Hard S/H ENA was sent at pass 3 on Oct. 27, 1994 just before SXT table write operation. 3.3 SXT ART INIT This Command was done at pass 2 on Oct. 28, 1994 just after SXT table write operation. 3.4 OG write OG was uploaded on 27 and 28-Oct-94. 4. Errors & Problem -------------------------------------------------------- 4.1 SXT Bit-Map Error 26-Oct-94 Pass_4 recovered in same pass (Pass_4) by Yobi Command C. 4.2 Data Lost at DSN passes Due to lighting strikes at SPC-40, the DSN was not able to support the Yohkoh passes listed below. No OP table change was possible and the data downloaded at above mentioned passes was lost. 4.3 Hang-up of Mainframe Terminal of KSC (G150) Terminal of the mainframe computer placed at KSC (G150) used for the SXT Table check operation was hung up on Oct. 27, 1994. However, this trouble was recovered on next day (Oct. 28, 1994) without repair operation. 4.4 Lack of carbon of Flare1 printer Due to the lack of carbon (toner), outputs from flare1 printer was faint. 5. DSN Communications ------------------------------------------------------ 5.1 DSN Strawman Schedule for W46 The strawman schedule for w46 arrived on Friday. We canceled 16 DSN passes in the schedule. There was no DSN conflict in the schedule. 5.2 Real Time Cancel of a Pass for the Walker's Rocket Flight Because of delay of the Walker's rocket flight, a DSN pass on Oct. 25 (1841UT-1926UT) was canceled. 5.3 Real Time Cancel of no observation Pass A DSN pass on 30 (pass 303: 1838UT-1922UT) was canceled because the period between the previous DSN pass and this pass is S/C night. 6. Yohkoh/ASCA Pass Conflicts -------------------------------------------- Two KSC passes were lost during week 43 because of conflict with ASCA (Pass_5 of 27 and 28-Oct-94). And four passes will be lost during week 44 (Pass_5 of 31_Oct-94, 01, 02 and 05-Nov-94). 7. Holiday Schedule ------------------------------------------------------- The next holiday will be on 06-Nov-94. 8. Akioka 8.2 STT Timer Set The next STT timer set is due on Tuesday (01-Nov-94). 8.3 Joint observations for the eclipse and the Walker's rocket flight This special operation is scheduled in next week (Nov. 3, 1994). 8.4 Shift of Holiday by GEOTAIL Backup at KSC The orbit of the GEOTAIL satellite will be changed to near-tail orbit on mid November. Operation concerning with this orbit change will be done on Nov. 12 (Saturday) and KSC 20-m antenna will be shared to this operation on this day. Therefore, holiday of Yohkoh operation is shifted from Nov. 13 (Sunday) to Nov. 12 (Saturday). Please keep it in mind that Nov. 13 is not holiday in week 46.
