SSOC Tohban Report for Week 44 (31 October - 6 November 1994) SSOC: T. Watanabe, H. Hudson KSC : K. Fujiki, M. Akioka 1. Solar Activity ------------------------------------------------------------ Solar activity remained at a rather low level. NOAA listed 22 B-class flares between 31-Oct and 3-Nov. The last C-class flare was on 29-Oct. 2. Standard Operation -------------------------------------------------------- 2.1 SXT Table Uploads 1 Nov: 941101 P3 ARS1 DKCAL 2 Nov: 941102 P1 ARS1 STD+LONG 3 Nov: 941103 P2 ECLIPSE/MSSTA 4 Nov: 941104 P2 ARS1 STD+LONG 2.2 STT Timer Set STT Timer was set on Tuesday (Pass_2 on 1-Nov-94). 2.3 BCS stim cal, source cal Executed 4 Nov. 2.4 OG re-write The OG for S/C N (4') has been replaced by S/C NE (4'), which does a displacement E 4' and N 4' simultaneously. This was to optimize the eclipse observations for SXT. 3. Special Operation ------------------------------------------------------- Special operations were done to obtain observations during the eclipse and Hoover/Walker rocket on 3-Nov. These were partially successful, but an unfortunate error occurred before the rocket launch, and no simultaneous data were obtained. The eclipse was successfully observed in both FFI and PFI images. The SXT images show the footpoints of a coronal streamer in the SW, which we hope was observed by the ground-based observers. Is there an ad hoc way in which the tohbans can extract data from the DSN gateway computer for temporary Sirius use? Many people were quite disappointed by this unfortunate timing. 4. Errors & Problem -------------------------------------------------------- 4.1 The AS-400 mini at KSC was down on Monday (31-Oct) and no real-time data could be seen at ISAS. 4.2 flare1 presented many problems in the days prior to the 3-Nov special operation. Can we swap this old hardware for the new flare20 hardware? This computer is vital to operations and its poor hardware, coupled with poor maintenance, often causes problems. 4.3 isass0 similarly continues to have major problems, perhaps associated with the /yd16 disk. Accordingly the weekly reformatting effort is falling behind. 4.4 OP_FIRST_GUESS has had a couple of small problems over the last few weeks. One is that it may schedule OP START after the apparent point of 10 degree elevation (originally noticed by Yoshida_kun). We don't think that this is a real error, but please keep your eyes open and if you see a case like this, document it to Lemen_san. A second problem is that it may schedule a medium rate/high rate pair at night during an SAA. These commands are superfluous and are due, according to Lemen_san, to a very complicated IF statement that he is fixin. Again keep your eyes open. 5. DSN Communications ------------------------------------------------------ 5.1 DSN Cancellations and De-cancellations for W46 Jose Valencia (DSN) sent e-mail announcing the cancellation of passes on DOY 319-324. We accordingly sent a fax request to reinstate some of the W46 cancellations made by the previous week's tohbans. The requested adds were: 320 0619-0704 66 7976 322 0418-0502 46 8005 324 0456-0542 46 8035 5.2 One DSN pass for Sunday was found to be at too low an elevation and was cancelled in real time (310/1528 66 #7833) by RASM. 5.3 Re-transmission requests DOY 288 (Madrid) 20:24-20:22 DOY 293, 298 (post-pass transmission fax reports only) None of these requested items had arrived. 6. Yohkoh/ASCA Pass Conflicts -------------------------------------------- The strawman conflicts for week 46 numbered about half a dozen, and were resolved at the Friday 2:00 pm meeting with Skinner_san of ASCA. 7. Holiday Schedule ------------------------------------------------------- The holiday will be on Saturday (12-Nov). 8. Hikitsugi Items -------------------------------------------------------- 8.1 Tohbans for Week 44 SSOC: Yasuno, Kano KSC: Akioka, Fujiwara 8.2 STT timer setting The next STT timer set will be due on Tuesday (08-Nov-94). 8.3 Preparation for the strawman DSN cancellations should be done prior to the Friday 2:00 p.m. meeting with ASCA. Hudson will be available for support. 8.4 Please save relevant e-mail in the appropriate directory on flare1.
