SSOC Tohban Report for Week 47 ( 21 - 28 November 1994) SSOC: K.Shibasaki, K.D. Leka KSC : K.Hori, Y. Hanaoka 1. Solar Activity ------------------------------------------------------------ Solar activity was below B-level in the last week except for a rise to C-level beginning 26/12:00UT. 2. Standard Operation -------------------------------------------------------- 2.1 SXT Table Uploads Nov 22 pass 2: 941122 P2 ARS1 STD + LONG -6 Nov 23 pass 2: 941123 P2 ARS1 STD + LONG -3 Nov 25 pass 2: 941125 P2 ARS1 STD + LONG -6 2.2 STT Timer Set STT Timer was stopped on Tuesday (pass 2 on Nov 22.) due to Canopus eclipse. 2.3 S/C off pointing ROGs during the KSC contacts Nov 22 pass 2: East 8' pass 3: West 8' pass 4: normal pointing Nov 24 pass 2: South 8' pass 3: normal pointing OGs in the OP, which are for the offpoint terminators Nov 23 08:16 - 08:53 : SW 8' (AlMg) Nov 24 06:58 - 07:34 : N 4' (AlMg) Nov 25 05:40 - 06:16 : SE 8' (Mg3) Nov 25 07:17 - 07:53 : W 8' (Mg3) ** (Nov 18 05:06-05:41 N4'(AlMg), SW 8' (AlMg) and NE 4' (Al1) ** ** were unsuccessful) ** 2.4 OG write A new OG for HXT fine gain adjustments was written on pass 1, Nov 25. 3. Special Operation ------------------------------------------------------- 3.1 Terminator images We collected the offpoint terminator images as listed in 2.3. This operation should be continued in week 48, as directed by the chief observer and op_first_guess. Kosugi-san (and NEC) communicated the following to the tohbans: ``According to the experience of GINGA and ASCA, maneuvering the satellite pointing once every day is not harmful to the satellite''. 3.2 OG Test A test operation of OG 46H (SXT Halt Operation) was performed on pass 1 on Nov 22 (941121-1033). The halt was confirmed and then cleared successfully by Yobi-C command, as directed by Hara-san, although the date of the operation was incorrect (see 4.2). 3.3 HXT Cal and Gain Adjustment The following special operations were performed as requested: Nov 23 pass 2 HXT Cal Nov 24 pass 2 '' '' pass 3 '' '' Nov 25 pass 1 OG Write (new) pass 2 fine gain adjustment pass 3 HXT Cal Nov 27 pass 2 '' '' pass 3 '' '' 4. Errors & Problems -------------------------------------------------------- 4.1 False Flares There were no false flares detected in week 47. The times when Yohkoh went into ``flare'' mode corresponded with night, KSC passes, and HXT calibration sequences. No SXT images were obtained during these times according to the event summaries. The HV RDCT ON and OF times were not shifted following the decision reached in last week's operations meeting. At the time of this writing, op_first_guess still reflects the -7, +3.5min HV RDCT times relative to SAA. 4.2 OG Test The special test operation for the SXT Halt command was scheduled as 941124-1034 (first pass, Nov 25), however was executed on the first pass of Nov 22 (941121-1033). This was due to lack of communication between the SSOC tohbans, Hara-san, the chief observer, and the usual chaotic circumstances surrounding tohban switching on Mondays. In the future, the tohbans (SSOC and KSC) will try to read the command sheets more carefully (the date was indeed written clearly on the command sheet). The tohbans request that special operations are communicated both in writing and orally to both tohbans, so that operations (especially those with potential to damage the Yohkoh instruments) are clearly understood by all parties. Please do not rely on only one tohban (or one language). 4.3 AOSLOS Listing program error. An error was found in the LP output of the AOSLOS listing program: `` +JZL240I-U (ABEND) I/O IS HALTED, CODE = 20322 -U 0000 PSW S882390 GO AOSLOS - COMPLETION CODE - SYSTEM =322 USER=000 '' Katano-san did not recognize the error and overlap sections between the final output and previous AOSLOS printout seemed to be complete and consistent (to a few seconds). We believe that the error has not caused any problems to the AOSLOS printout, but next tohbans should be aware of this. 4.4 Flare 1 Was down at 00:40 11/28, with failed blocks on the home disk again. This is an almost identical error to last week at the same time. 4.5 Terminator images To avoid impending confusion, the tohbans need an updated table on what terminator off-point images are needed. 4.6 Spacecraft errors Both SXT and BCS were found with errors on pass 1, 27 Nov. The SXT bitmap error was recovered with the Yobi-C command in the same pass. The BCS error was recovered in the second pass, but this was during the HXT cal operation, so some of the HXT cal data will be corrupted by BCS recovery data, and the HXT cal operation may need to be rescheduled. 5. DSN Communications ------------------------------------------------------ 5.1 DSN Schedules arrived in time. 5.2 We had no Re-transmission requests last week. 6. Yohkoh/ASCA Pass Conflicts -------------------------------------------- Week 47 lost two KCS passes to ASCA, and will loose three passes in week 48. Conflicts with ASCA for the week 50 strawman schedule were resolved in a meeting between Katano-san, Hudson-san and Skinner-san. The SSOC tohbans prepared printouts for Katano-san and communicated with DSN the pass deletions as per the meeting. 7. Holiday Schedule ------------------------------------------------------- The holiday was on Saturday Nov 26, not Sunday (Nov.27). The next holiday will be on Sunday Dec 4. We need to have 7 days of operation due to phase adjustment. 8. Hikitsugi Items -------------------------------------------------------- 8.1 Tohbans for Week 47 SSOC: S. Enome, M. Ohyama KSC : Y. Hanaoka, T. Takano 8.2 STT timer setting STT timer should be set immediately. 8.3 Offpoint terminator images Add the offpoint OG and the normal pointing OG in the OP during the terminator manually. 8.4 Negotiation with ASCA Negotiate the KSC contacts in the next week with Nagase san on Thursday. The strawman DSN schedule will be negotiated by Hudson-san and Katano-san, although tohbans need to help Katano-san prepare for that meeting and communicate accordingly with DSN after the conflicts are resolved. 8.5 Please save relevant e-mails in mail/mail_94_w## on flare1.
