SSOC Tohban Report for Week 04 ( 23 - 29 January 1995) SSOC: TSUNETA, S. & CANFIELD, R.C. KSC : OKUBO, A. & YOSHIDA, T. 1. Solar Activity ------------------------------------------------------------ Solar activity during the last week was low and variable, in the lower half of the GOES B range. However, about ten GOES C events occurred in AR7829 and 7830. 2. Standard Operations -------------------------------------------------------- 2.1 SXT Table Uploads 23 Jan pass -0723: 950123 P2 ARS2 STD+LONG 24 Jan pass -1031: 950124 P4 ARS1 DKCAL V2 25 Jan pass -0824: 950125 P2 ARS1 STD 26 Jan pass -0722: 950126 P2 ARS1 STD 27 Jan pass -0722 950127 P2 ARS1 STD+LONG 28 Jan pass -0620 950128 P2 ARS1 STD 2.2 STT Timer Set STT Timer was set on Wednesday at the 4th contact. The next STT timer set is due on Tuesday (31-Jan-95). 3. Special Operations ------------------------------------------------------- HXT did a gain adjust during pass 950124-0824 and a calibration during pass 950124-1031 4. Errors & Problems -------------------------------------------------------- 4.1 SXT and BCS errors. There was an SXT SHUTTR error on pass 950126-0722, which was recovered successfully on the following pass. There were no BCS errors. 4.2 Problems The KSC and SSOC tohbans were confused about the required duration of DSN REP: the English SSOC Tohban manual (p 15) says 13 intervals are required for night passes, whereas op_first_guess says 12 are enough. This needs clarification. The KSC tohbans forgot "SXT CHK ENA" and "SXT CHK DIS" in spite of the DAY pass for 950128 pass 2. However, it seems that it was no problem for the SXT images. The SSOC tohban responsible for the ASCA negociatio (RCC) did not adequately prepare for the ASCA/Yohkoh pass conflict resolution meeting with Nagase san. Three conflicts on Monday, 30 Jan, were overlooked, and were not discovered until Saturday, 28 Jan, by KSC, at which time a corrected OP was generated. The Japanese-illiterate US SSOC tohban had problems Saturday (when he agreed to single duty) starting FACOM mainframe #2, due to absence of English-language instructions. These problems were overcome within a few hours, with help from Lemen san and Nitta san. He also had problems with the FAX and the copier. Perhaps a hardware section in the English SSOC Tohban manual would be useful, starting with a page about starting up the FACOM. A draft has been prepared. The system problem that occurs while running op_first_guess (encountered by previous tohbans) reappeared, and should be corrected, since a typical tohban calls op_first_guess author Lemen san, but the problem has nothing to do with op_first_guess: % OPENW: Error opening file: /dev/tty. No such device or address % Execution halted at MORE (OPENW). % Called from PRSTR . % Called from OP_TERMINATOR . % Called from OP_EDIT . % Called from $MAIN$ . 5. DSN Communications ------------------------------------------------------ 5.1 DSN Strawman Schedule for W07 There were 12 DSN conflicts with ASCA in thhe strawman schedule. They were not shared evenly (7 for ASCA and 5 for YOHKOH), since ASCA did not need some. We canceled a total of 15 DSN contacts from the strawman schdule, for such conflicts and passes that were not needed. 5.2 DSN Forecast Schedule for W06 We canceled 3 DSN contacts from the preliminary schdule. 5.3 DSN Final Schedule for W04 We cancelled 2 DSN contacts from the final schedule because each of them was close to a neighboring pass. 6. Yohkoh/ASCA Pass Conflicts -------------------------------------------- In week 04, we lost the following KCS passes used by ASCA: 950126-0928 (4th pass of jan 26, from 13:59:59 UT) 950127-0929 (4th pass of jan 27, from 14:19:44 UT) 950127-1033 (5th pass of jan 27, from 16:03:14 UT) 7. Holiday Schedule ------------------------------------------------------- The next operational holiday will be on Sunday, Feb 5. 8. Hikitsugi Items -------------------------------------------------------- 8.1 Tohbans for Week 03 KSC : YOSHIDA, T. and SHIBASAKI, K. SSOC : SATO, J. and SAWA, M. 8.2 STT timer setting The next STT timer set is due on Tuesday (31-Jan-95). 8.3 DSN Data: Katano san was at ISAS only on Friday and did not have much time to check the DSN data completeness. It may be necessary to request that JPL retransmit at least two Yohkoh down-link transmissions. Next week's tohbans should check on this point with Katano san. Archive reformatting for week #03 has been halted until the DSN data completeness is resolved.
