SSOC Tohban Report for Week 17_95 (24 Apr - 30 Apr 1995) SSOC: Sterling, A., Takano, T. KSC : Yokoyama T., Kubo A. 1. Solar Activity ----------------------------------------------------- Solar Activity was quite low after NOAA #7863 disappeared over the west limb at the beginning of W17. GOES intensities were below B level most of the week. 2. Standard Operations ------------------------------------------------ 2.1 SXT Table Uploads : 5 times --------------------------------------------------------------------- KSC Time (start) Pass# Table ID --------------------------------------------------------------------- 25-APR-95 05:57 JST 4 950424 P4 ARS1 DKCAL 26-APR-95 01:08 JST 2 950425 P1 ARS0 XBP PFI 26-APR-95 04:34 JST 4 950425 P4 ARS1 STD+LONG 28-APR-95 00:04 JST 2 950427 P2 ARS0 FIL+LONG 29-APR-95 02:06 JST 3 950428 P3 ARS1 STD+LONG --------------------------------------------------------------------- 2.2 STT Timer Setting The STT Timer was set on 25-Apr (Tue) Pass #2 (950424-1136). The next setting is due on Tuesday, 2-May. The STT tracking was confirmed. 2.3 S/C offpoints The following three offpoints were done in week 17. 25 APR 02:49 - 03:11 UT : OG 36 S/C W04 N00 25 APR 04:26 - 04:48 UT : OG 85 S/C W03 N02 30 APR 20:39 - 20:57 UT : OG 86 S/C E04 N00 2.4 HXT calibrations HXT calibrations were done in the following passes. 25-APR-95 Pass #4 (950424-1032) 26-APR-95 Pass #2 (950425-1033) 26-APR-95 Pass #3 (950425-1136) 29-APR-95 Pass #2 (950428-1031) 29-APR-95 Pass #3 (950428-1135) 30-APR-95 Pass #3 (950430-1033) An HXT fine gain adjustment was done in the following pass. 28-APR-95 Pass #4 (950427-1237) 2.5 BCS calibrations BCS calibrations were done during pass 950430-1136 (Stim Cal), and near 10 UT on 950427 (Source Cal). 3. Errors & Problems ------------------------------------------------- 3.1 KSC X-band Receiver Problem An X-band modulator problem occurred on Pass #1 of 25 April, and all data which were to be downloaded during that pass were lost. 3.2 SXT and BCS errors. BCS Recovery. A BCS recovery was done on 27-APR-95 Pass #2 (950427-1031) at the request of the BCS Tohban Person (A. Sterling). An SXT error, WRM RST error, was detected just before LOS on 25-Apr Pass #4 (950425-1240), and Yobi-A and B were done during Pass #5. The problem was found to be an SEU and recovery was completed on Pass #2 on 26-Apr (950426-1133) after consultations with SXT Super Tohban Hara-san. Hara san has suggested modifications to documents at KSC to help diagnose and recover this type of error more quickly. An SXT bit map error was detected on Pass #1 on 28-Apr (950427-0927) and recovered during the same pass. 3.3 Operations error On 29 Apr Pass #4 (950428-1238) (the pass with the OP upload) ROG 55(Hex) was sent, which is a command to give a northwest offset pointing, instead of ROG 55(Dec), Day command. On Pass #5 the pointing was returned to normal by sending ROG 20(Hex). Because of the absence of the Day command after sunrise, no data were taken between these passes. If possible, ROG(Hex) will be changed to be the same as ROG 55(Dec) in order to avoid this easy-to-make error. This might require one of the offpoint OG's to be abandoned. 4. DSN Communications ------------------------------------------------------ 4.1 DSN Strawman Schedule for W20 We cancelled 47 DSN from the W20 strawman schedule after negotiations with ASUKA. 4.2 DSN Forecast Schedule for W19 We cancelled 7 DSN contacts from the forecast schedule for W19. 4.3 DSN Final Schedule for W18 We cancelled 1 DSN contact, 1 May 11:40-11:48, from the final schedule for W18 because it occurs between two KSC Passes (still to be confirmed). 4.6 Pass additions No pass addition requests were needed for week 18. 5. YOHKOH/ASUKA/SFU Pass Conflicts at KSC ---------------------------------- In week 17 we lost 7 KSC passes due to conflicts; five to ASUKA and two to SFU. In week 18, six passes will be lost due to conflicts; five to ASUKA and one to SFU. The KSC passes of YOHKOH and ASUKA are heavily overlapped (4 passes) on 6 May (Sat). YOHKOH, therefore, has operations on Saturday and ASUKA on Sunday. Consequently, we have seven days of operation in Week 18. (You might say that we are to have a Golden Week of operations!) 6. Special operation There were no special scientific operations during the week. In response to a request from DSN, we turned on the Yohkoh X-band antenna during two DSN passes on 28-April-95, between 10:38 and 10:55, and between 12:21 and 12:37 UT. It was necessary to rewrite OGs #33 and 34 for these operations. 7. Holiday Schedule The next holiday will be Sunday, 7 May. 8. Pass name The pass name of Pass #4 on 27 Apr on the Real-Time Command Sheets (950427-1238) differed from that appeared on the Weekly Schedule Sheet (950427-1237). We used 950427-1237 for the pass. Jim Lemen found that such discrepancies in names are in-part due to the differences in the elevations used in the calculations. His code, op_first_guess, uses three-degree elevation and the Weekly Schedule Sheet does the calculation based on zero-degree elevation. 9. English Tohban Manual The English Tohban manual has been updated. Please notify A. Sterling of any comments or suggestions for improvement. 10. Changes to op_first_guess Jim Lemen has improved op_first_guess so that it now queries if you want to remove any passes on the first or second day of KSC contacts. This feature is extremely convenient for removing passes that are lost due to conflicts with ASUKA or SFU. ************************************************************************** 11. Hikitsugi Items -------------------------------------------------- 11.1 Tohbans for Week 18 KSC : Kubo and Yashiro SSOC : Yaji and Ohyama 11.2 ASUKA/SFU pass conflicts (KSC) Please contact Nagase-san (ex.2611) on Tuesday to decide when and how to negotiate week 19 pass conflicts with ASUKA. This is necessary because of the holiday on Thursday. There is a pass conflict with SFU on 8 May 08:17-08:31 at KSC; YOHKOH should not use this pass. 11.3 Katano san Katano san will be away this week for the Golden Week holiday. She has generated AOSLOSGD color and black-and-white plots for the week 19 final schedule and the week 21 strawman (using this week's orbital elements). 11.4 Strawman cancel next week The meeting for week 21 strawman cancellations will be next Monday (8 April), since Katano, Itoh, and Hilton santachi will all be away this week. 11.5 STT timer setting The next STT timer set is due on Tuesday, 2 May. 11.6 DSN Pass Cancellation Confirmation. We have requested cancellation of the DSN pass at 11:40 UT on 1-May (tonight!). As of Saturday, this request was not reflected in the RASM final schedule. DSN should be notified if it still has not been removed from the schedule by today. 11.7 Tonight's OP and Pass Sheets The OP for upload on Monday evening (950501-0723 OP) along with the command sheets have been FAXed to KSC for checking. Some changes may be needed depending on the response from KSC. The OP has not yet been transferred to KSC on the FACOM. Also, the SXT table name must still be added to the pass sheets for tonight. 11.8 Campaign Contact. The DSN contact on 15 May 18:39-18:50 (UT) at DSN-66 should be kept for a YOHKOH downlink because of a NASA rocket experiment for solar observations. 11.9 Terminators. We are doing offpoints on each terminator opportunity. Please consult with the SXT chief observer for how this works, and refer to the example in tonight's OP for guidance in how to schedule the images. We are using the following offpoint OG's and are going through them in sequence cyclically. That is, change each time to the next number please: OG 33 S/C W19 S01 (all OG numbers are decimal) OG 34 S/C W17 N00 OG 35 S/C W10 S01 (<---In tonight's OP) OG 36 S/C W04 N00 <------ next OG 85 S/C W03 N02 OG 86 S/C E04 N00 OG 87 S/C E18 N00 The safety issue for OGs 33 and 87 have been clarified, so these two OGs have now been added to the list. Do not use OGs 33 and 34 will be rewritten today to reflect the offpoint operations listed in the table above. They both had been overwritten for the X-band antenna operation last week. 11.10 FACOM password Remember to change the password for all the SSOC Tohban accounts on the FACOM. This should be done before doing any operation's work today. 11.11 Keep .mailrc aliases updated For many months now, Wendel Keller was still being sent mail that Jose Valencia should have been receiving because the DSN alias had not been updated. When personnel changes such as these occur, the we should remember to inform the tohbans to keep mailing lists updated. ************************************************************************** 12. Other 12.1 IRTS observations on SFU were completed on 26 April. 12.2 Mouse pads are badly needed for the mice on the flare 11 and 20 workstations. 12.3 Several chairs in the YOHKOH SSOC operation room are damaged.
