SSOC Tohban Report for Week 33_95 (14 August - 20 August 1995) SSOC: K. Akita, T. Sakurai KSC : S. Masuda, J. Sato 1. Solar Activity ----------------------------------------------------- Solar activity was quite low, staying at lower part of GOES A-level. There was one C-flare in Yohkoh's night time ( 18-Aug 17:11). 2. Standard Operations ------------------------------------------------ 2.1 SXT Table Uploads : 4 tables --------------------------------------------------------------------- KSC Time (start:JST=UT+9) Pass# Table ID --------------------------------------------------------------------- 14-Aug-95 (22:09) 3 950814 P3 ARS2 DKCAL 15-Aug-95 (20:46) 2 950815 P2 ARS1 FIL+AR 16-Aug-95 (01:54) 5 950815bP5 ARS2 FIL+AR 16-Aug-95 (19:22) 2 950816 P2 ARS1 STD+LONG --------------------------------------------------------------------- Every time a block command "BC 8C 05" was also uploaded . This is for dumping SXT patrol images. 2.2 STT Timer Setting The STT Timer was set on 15 Aug (in the pass 950815-0824). The next setting is due on 22 Aug (Tuesday). 3. Errors & Problems ------------------------------------------------- 3.1 BCS Error A BCS error was found in the data downlinked on 12 Aug. It was the type of error KSC tohbans cannot detect just by monitoring the QL display. Recovery commands were issued on 14 Aug, Passes 3 and 5. Another BCS error was detected on 15 Aug, Pass 1. It was recovered successfully in the same pass. 3.2 Offpoint terminator images neglected by SSOC tohban For two weeks starting from 7-Aug, SSOC tohbans have been neglecting the requests for off-pointings made by SXT_CO, partly because there was no mention about the offpointing procedure in the Hikitsugi items from the previous tohbans, nor in the tohban manual. Howver, tohbans should have noticed it when SXT_CO mentioned like 'offpoint terminator images (OG 85: E08 S17) will be taken' in the SXT TABLE UPLOAD faxes. This is listed as a Hikitsugi item again. 3.3 GOES_SUMMARY doesn't work We found that file siezes of gxt_** files used by GOES_SUMMARY have been quite small since week22 of this year. We suspect this is the reason GEOS_SUMMARY does not work. This should be fixed. Slater-san provided a work-around to use 3sec time resolution data with the keyword,',/three'. We would appreciate it if the software is revised to give better plots with 3sec data, though. 3.4 Broadcast address of ISASS machines Shutoh-san notified us that the broadcast address of four ISASS machines is different from that of all the other machines in the solarnet. It should be the same within a subnet. This will be a potential cause of 'broadcast storm' and should be corrected soon. Although ISASS machines' broadcast address is the standard one, it'll be much easier to change their address than to change the configuration files of all the other machines. However, we'd have to change the broadcast address to the current ISASS machines' address if ISAS network admin. asks for it in future (not likely, though). 3.5 Power outage We experinced an accidental power outage for a few minutes only in D-toh at around 3p.m. on Saturday, 19-Aug. The workstations had some problems restarting, but no major problems are detected so far. 4. DSN Communications ------------------------------------------------------ 4.1 DSN Strawman Schedule for W36 We cancelled 60 DSN contacts from the strawman schedule for W36. 4.2 DSN Forecast Schedule for W35 We cancelled 36 DSN contacts from the forecast schedule for W35. 4.3 DSN Final Schedule for W34 We cancelled 4 DSN contacts from the final schedule for W34. 4.4 DSN Final Schedule for W33 None. 4.5 Pass additions None. 4.6 Re-transmission requests We sent a re-transmission request for data follows; DSS 74 211/21:06-21:15 (has been requested repeatedly) DSS 74 225/13:34-13:47 5. YOHKOH/ASCA/SFU Pass Conflicts at KSC ---------------------------------- For W33, 7 KSC passes were lost because of the conflicts with ASCA. The current pattern is for a couple of days worth of orbits to be almost exactly out of phase, followed by two more days in which the orbits are in conflict. There are no current pass conflicts between Yohkoh/ASCA and SFU. 6. Special operation 6.1 Offset Pointing ( for terminator images ) Planned, but not accomplished (see 3.2). 7. Holiday Schedule The next holiday will be Sunday, 27 August. 8. Attendance of the MON (Monday Operation Meeting) on 31 (mon) July Akita, Hara, Hanaoka, Kahn, Kano, Morimoto, Ogawara, Reumeliotis, Sakao, Sawa, Slater, Ueno, Watanabe, Weber ************************************************************************** 9. Hikitsugi Items -------------------------------------------------- 9.1 Tohbans for Week 34 KSC : Sato_J and Hori SSOC : Hanaoka and Ueno 9.2 STT timer setting The next STT timer set is due in the evening of Tuesday, 22 Aug (JST). 9.3 OP_FIRST_GUESS ( from last week's report ) There were a couple of misses of DP rate switches in SAA. The tohbans should be alert for this. It is probably a bug in the logic of Lemen_san's very complicated program, and if it does not happen very often I suggest we wait until he returns to Japan to get it fixed. 9.4 SXT patrol image dumps ( from last week's report ) The clock command "BC 8C 05(HEX)" should be uploaded with each table change. This is to dump an SXT patrol image for reference. 9.5 Offpoint terminator images The terminator-offpointing program will be continued this week. SSOC tohbans will be required to manually insert the offpoint OGs into the OP tables following SXT_CO's requests. After OP_FIRST_GUESS, SSOC tohbans should fax the draft of OP list to SXT_CO at D-toh. SXT_CO, then, send back a fax of requests for offpoints if necessary. OGs for offpoints are; OG 33 S/C W03 N00 (all OG numbers are decimal) OG 34 S/C W17 N00 OG 35 S/C W10 S01 OG 36 S/C W04 N00 OG 85 S/C W02 N17 OG 86 S/C W19 N01 OG 87 S/C W16 N00 ---------------------------------------------- END of REPORT
