SSOC Tohban Report for Week 37_95 (September 11 - September 18, 1995) SSOC: A. Takeda, Dhani Herdiwijaya KSC : S. Nagata, R. Kano Attendance : T.Yokoyama, Te.Watanabe, H.Hara, T.Yoshida, H.Hudson, D.Herdiwijaya, A.Takeda, G.Slater, J.Kahn, N.Nitta, T.Sakao, A.Stering, M.Sawa, and M.Weber 1. Solar Activity --------------------------------------------------------- During this week, the Sun was very quiet. Many XBPs were seen. NOAA 7905 went beyond the limb in middle of the week. Over the weekend, a tiny region close to the west limb suddenly increased its brightness. This was numbered as NOAA 7906, and made the GOES flux jump to B-level although it is setting now. There is a moderately bright loop system seen on the disk, but it is not numbered as yet. Flare with 2B class and CME were appeared in the East limb on 17-Sep-95. 2. Standard Operations --------------------------------------------------- 2.1 SXT Table Uploads : 9 tables --------------------------------------------------------------------- KSC Time (start:JST=UT+9) Pass# Table ID --------------------------------------------------------------------- 11-Sep-95 (07:07) #2 950910 P2 ARS1 DARKCAL 12-Sep-95 (07:26) #2 950911 P2 ARS1 STD+LONG 14-Sep-95 (04:40) #1 950913 P1 ARS0 POLAR FR 14-Sep-95 (11:31) #5 950913 P5 ARS1 STD+LONG 15-Sep-95 (06:44) #2 950914 P2 ARS1 STD+LONG+FR 16-Sep-95 (03:36) #1 950915 P1 ARS0 XBP CAMP 16-Sep-95 (08:43) #4 950915 P4 ARS1 STD+LONG 18-Sep-95 (02:33) #1 950917 P1 ARS0 XBP CAMP 18-Sep-95 (09:23) #5 950917 P5 ARS1 DARKCAL --------------------------------------------------------------------- Every time a command "BC 8C 05" was also executed. This is for dumping SXT patrol images. 2.2 STT Timer Setting The STT Timer was set on the pass 950911-1342. Because of a period of perfect geo-eclipse of Canopus, we have stopped the STT Timer since the pass 950913-1547. 3. Errors & Problems ------------------------------------------------------- 3.1 Terminal G150 at KSC The G150 terminal at KSC was worn out during the pass of 950910-1445. Two SXT tables ,therefore, were verified under support of SSOC. The part of G150 was temporarily replaced. Since then it successfully performed the SXT Table Write/Read whidh started from 12-Sep-95 (07:26 JST). 3.2 DP-error Two DP-errors were reported during the week 37. One occured at the 4th pass on 11-Sep-95, with DP-ERR-CODE=90. The cause of this error is said to be the SEU (Single Event Upset), which occurred on the memory location map for BDR. A DP-error with DP-ERR-CODE=A5 was reported at the second pass on 14-Sep-1994 at 3:21:25-29 UT on 14-Sep-1994. It was due to an abrupt termination of an SXT long exposure by the command SXT-CNT-MAN, followed by a reset of the observational sequence. KSC tohbans confirmed that SXT was taking a long exposure-time picture of 120 sec at the time when SXT-CNT-MAN was issued from the ground. The subsequent commands could recover this error. This error has already happened several times, and is harmless for the entire Yohkoh observation (cf. Nomura memo of 27-Jun-1992 and Shimizu memo of 27-Sep-1993). This explanation was quoted in e-mail from R. Kano on 15-Sep-95 (see mail_95_37 file on flare1). 4. DSN Communications ------------------------------------------------------- 4.1 DSN Final Schedule for W38 We cancelled 2 DSN contacts from the Final Schedule for W38 (14-SEP). 4.2 DSN Preliminary Schedule for W39 We cancelled 18 DSN contacts from the Preliminary Schedule for W39 (15-SEP). 4.3 DSN Strawman Schedule for W40 The Yohkoh-side negotiator of the conflict meeting held on Friday was Hudson-san instead of Katano-san who was absent on the day. We cancelled 57 DSN contacts from the Strawman Schedule for W40 (15-SEP). 4.4 Pass additions None. 5. YOHKOH/ASCA/SFU Pass Conflicts at KSC ------------------------------------- In W37, 8 KSC passes were lost because of the conflicts with ASCA. Next week (#38), there are also 10 KSC passes lost. The current pattern is that for a couple of days the orbits are almost exactly out of phase, but in the following couple of days the orbits are nearly perfectly in conflict, we will lose half of the KSC contacts in these cases. There were no pass conflicts between Yohkoh and SFU. 6. Special operation --------------------------------------------------------- Off-Pointing and Terminators Terminator operations were performed for 5 times at 950911-1342 OP : 12:20:47 Normal 950913-1340 OP : 14:34:55 Normal 950914-1444 OP : 22:00:32 Normal 06:45:20 OG33 (S/C W09N00) 07:23:12 OG32 (S/C NORMAL POINT) 13:14:08 OG33 (S/C W09N00) 13:52:00 OG32 (S/C NORMAL POINT) 7. Holiday Schedule ---------------------------------------------------------- The next holiday will be on Sunday, 24-Sep-95. 8. Hikitsugi Items ----------------------------------------------------------- 8.1 Tohbans for Week #38 KSC : R. Kano and S. Hashizume SSOC : T. Yokoyama (Hori on 20-Sep.) and J. Khan 8.2 STT Timer Setting The next STT Timer should be set on Tuesday, 19-Sep-95. 8.3 OP_FIRST_GUESS ( from last week's report ) A couple of misses of DP rate switches in SAA have been reported in the output of 'op_first_guess'. From weeks 34, 35, 36 and 37, no problem was found about the DP rate switches, but the tohbans should take care of this item. 8.4 SXT patrol image dumps ( from last week's report ) A command "BC 8C 05(HEX)" should be executed when the SXT table write occured. This is to dump an SXT patrol image for reference. 8.5 Offpoint terminator images The terminator off-pointing observation were conducted in the week_37. The general rule is as follows; when SXT CMPN OBS is appeared from the preliminary OP table generated by running 'op_first_guess' then the OP should be sent to the SXT_CO (Chief Observer) in D-toh via fax and consult him whether the off-point OG's will be inserted or not. The SXT_CO will then respond back by fax/phone. The SSOC tohbans will be asked to manually insert the off-point OGs and their associates into the preliminary OP tables. 8.6 E-mail from Brent Burgess From: RASM::BURGESS "Brent Burgess" To: @LIS:ALL_USERS.DIS CC: BURGESS Subj: Request for IP addresses Hi... September 14, 1995 We are continuing to work to improve the existing interface for DSN scheduling activities. We plan to provide additional interface capabilities by utilizing the Internet. These services will be alternate methods for submitting and receiving scheduling information. The RASM dial-back system will continue to exist and function. The Internet interface will include a WWW Home Page which users can access to submit or receive scheduling information. In order to establish access to the Home Page we will need each user to supply the IP address for their individual workstation. If you have an established IP address please send it to me as soon as possible. If you use RASM VAX Mail send it to BURGESS If you use other E-mail send it to Brent.Burgess@Jpl.Nasa.Gov Thank you. -- Brent Burgess (818)393-0611 FAX: (818)393-0612 8.7 etc. * GOES_SUMMARY program could not be run on flare1 nor flare11. Use flare20. * The 5th pass on 21 Sep (950921-1445) should be finished until 22:25UT, because of successive ASCA operation. ------------------------------ END of REPORT -----------------------------
