SSOC Tohban Report for Week 06, 1996 (05 February - 11 February 1996) SSOC: A. Sterling, K. Ichimoto KSC : K. Fujiki, S. Kawashima 0. Meeting Attendants -------------------------------------------------------- A. Sterling, Watanabe Te, Ichimoto K. (No formal meeting this week due to national holiday.) 1. Solar Activity ------------------------------------------------------------ A good week for observing spicules. 2. Standard Operations ------------------------------------------------------- 2.1 SXT table uploads Five SXT tables were uploaded: Date (JST) Pass# Table ID ------------------------------------------------- 6 Feb 4 960206 P4 ARS1 DKCAL 7 Feb 2 960207 P2 ARS0 FIL+DIFFU 8 Feb 3 960208 P3 ARS0 FILAMENT 9 Feb 3 960209 P3 ARS0 FILAMENT 10 Feb 3 960210 P3 ARS1 STD+LONG ------------------------------------------------- 2.2 STT timer setting STT Timer was set on 06-FEB-96 (JST) during pass 2 (ID: 960206-0001). 2.3 SXT terminator images and S/C offset pointings Date Time (UT) OG comment(OG#) ------------------------------------------------------------- **** there were no offpoint terminator images this week **** ------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Errors and Problems ------------------------------------------------------- 3.1 BCS errors There were no BCS errors 3.2 SXT errors There were no SXT errors 3.3 Lost DSN Data Dump We heard after the fact that DSN cancelled a Yohkoh pass -- 036/1321-1404 DSS-46 Pass #4594, due to a UARS spacecraft emergency. This means that Yohkoh data dumped during that pass are lost forever. An additional concern is that the FAX notifying us of this cancelation was sent to a FAX machine on 3rd floor B-toh, near Shuto-san's office. We notified DSN of the mistaken FAX number on 8-Feb-96. 3.4 D-toh FAX Date Information FAXes received from D-toh have the incorrect date on them (date of transmission automatically printed on page). Probably a simple adjustment is needed. 4. DSN Communications -------------------------------------------------------- 4.1 DSN Final schedule for W06 We cancelled two passes on DOY 38: 038/1216-1259 DSS-46 Pass #4623 038/1359-1442 DSS-46 Pass #4624 These cancelations were in response to a FAX from DSN informing us that these two passes would probably have to be used for UARS emergency operations. We received this information just in time to prepare and upload a modified OP during pass 4 on 7-Feb (pass 960207-0308). There was one other W06 cancelation: 042/1911-1956 DSS-16 Pass #4686 4.2 DSN Final schedule for W07 There were no cancelations from the final schedule for week 07. 4.3 DSN Preliminary schedule for W08 There were no cancelations from the preliminary schedule for week 08. 4.4 DSN Strawman schedule for W08 Due to illness of the ASUKA scheduler, Paul Hilton san, the previous week, the strawman cancelations for W08 were done on Monday of this week. There were 64 strawman cancelations for W08. 4.5 DSN Strawman schedule for W09 There were 65 strawman cancelations for W09. 4.6 Pass additions None. 4.7 Re-transmission requests and results The following information is from files now kept on flare1 by Katano-san: flare1:/home/flare1/yohkoh/dsn_corrupt/96_06 030 76 2106 100% corrupted. Requested 1 Feb. Closed/correct data received,5 Feb. 031 17 0023 25% intermit data gaps Requested 1 Feb. 25% intermit data gaps Requested 5 Feb. 25% intermit data gaps Tape Requested 7 Feb. Closed/Data loss possibly due to DSN equip. problem, 8 Feb. 034 17 2330 11% intermit data gaps Requested 5 Feb. 11% intermit data gaps Tape Requested 7 Feb. 035 17 1541 Data not received. Requested 7 Feb. Closed/correct data received,8 Feb. The format for this dsn_corrupt file is still evolving. Tohban suggestions are still welcome. 5. Yohkoh/ASUKA Pass Conflicts at KSC ----------------------------------------- In W06, eight passes were lost due to conflicts with ASUKA. We will lose six passes to ASUKA during W07. 6. Special Operations -------------------------------------------------------- None. 7. Holiday Schedule ----------------------------------------------------------- The next holiday will be on Sunday, 17-Feb. 8. Hikitsugi Items ----------------------------------------------------------- 8.1 Tohbans for W07 KSC : S. Kawashima, R. Kano SSOC: K. Akita, Te. Watanabe 8.2 STT timer setting The next STT timer set is due on Tuesday, 13-Feb-96 JST. 8.3 DOY 34 DSN Data status Katano san has requested information about the status of the DSN data for DOY 34; those data had intermittent gaps that DSN does not yet understand. They will send to ISAS data recorded from the backup telemetry channel to see if they are any better than the original data from the primary channel. The Tohbans should inform Leonard Weinberg of the status of the data from the backup channel after Katano san receives them (see FAX #06-I-05). 8.4 W10 Strawman Scheduling. Katano san will be taking vacation time next Friday (16-Feb), so someone will have to pinch hit for her in doing the Yohkoh strawman cancelations. A. Sterling is currently set to do this. 8.5 Offpoint terminator images If terminators appear in the OP generated by running OP_FIRST_GUESS, then the OP should be FAXed to the SXT_CO (Chief Observer) in D-toh. The SXT_CO will then inform the SSOC tohbans if offpointing will be carried out. If so, the OP will need be edited appropriately. 8.6 Transmission of OPs It is no longer necessary to confirm the transmission of OP/OG files to KSC by checking the printout on the 3rd floor in B-toh. Instead the time of transmission of the OP/OG files should be noted down. If the SSOC or KSC tohbans notice any failure in transmission of the OP/OG files then it should be reported to Shuto-san and Kosugi-san. 8.7 SXT patrol image dumps A block command `DP BC 8C-05 (hex)' should be executed whenever an SXT Table is uploaded. Since the Sun is very quiet, ARS parameters need to be checked by the SXT patrol images dumped by this command. 8.8 WWW server of DSN The DSN NOCC Information Server (NIS) is now on-line and available for DSN scheduling operations. The URL location is: http://dsn.jpl.nasa.gov/nss 8.9 New Password We now send strawman and preliminary DSN deletions to JPL by three methods: EMAIL, RASM, and FTP. A password is needed for the FTP transfer. Tohbans for the new week should get this password from the previous week's tohbans. 8.10 FACOM Startup: Maybe the Last Time (I Don't Know). The FACOM had to be restarted on Saturday. The good news is that, since both tohbans are responsible for the tohban manuals, the correct procedure for FACOM startup can at last be included in the tohban manuals. Now the bad news: The procedure will change with the installation of the new FACOM machine this week! But, on balance, things are to be much better after the new machine is installed, since, we are told, it is to run continuously, and therefore the startup problem should be solved forever. We can only hope!! 8.11 Manual Both of the Tohban Manuals have been updated, A. Sterling doing the English manual and K. Ichimoto doing the Japanese manual. There are several new procedures, mainly revolving around tail_dsn usage. Tohbans in the coming weeks should note places where explanations are inadequate. 8.12 Checklist The checklist will be updated to reflect the new English manual page numbers this week. ------------------------------- End of Report ---------------------------------
