SSOC Tohban Report for Week 10, 1996 (4 March - 10 March 1996) SSOC: M. Shimojo, N. Nitta KSC : S. Kubo, H. Sekiguchi 0. Meeting Attendants -------------------------------------------------------- Hara, Hudson, Kano, Nishio, Nitta, Sawa, Shimojo, Sterling, Watanabe_Te, Yaji, Yoshida 1. Solar Activity ------------------------------------------------------------ Solar activity was at a bottom level, hitting the GOES A-level only a few times during the week. 2. Standard Operations ------------------------------------------------------- 2.1 SXT table uploads Seven SXT tables were uploaded: Date (JST) Pass# Table ID ------------------------------------------------- 04 Mar 3 960304 P3 ARS1 DKCAL 05 Mar 2 960305 P2 ARS0 S POL+LNG 06 Mar 3 960306 P3 ARS0 SOUTH POL 07 Mar 1 960307 P1 ARS0 SOUTH POL 07 Mar 3 960307 P3 ARS0 SOUTH POL 08 Mar 4 960308 P4 ARS1 STD+DIFF 09 Mar 2 960309 P2 ARS1 STD+LONG ------------------------------------------------ 2.2 STT timer setting STT timer was set at pass 4 on 5 March (ID: 960305-0929), and pass 3 on 7 March (ID: 960307-0824) in which we issued the STOP command of STT Timer. Note that weeks 10 and 11 happen to be a period of perfect geo-eclipse of Canopus. 2.3 SXT terminator images and S/C offset pointings Date Time (UT) OG comment(OG#) ------------------------------------------------------------- **** there were no offpoint terminator images this week **** ------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Errors and Problems ------------------------------------------------------- 3.1 SXT errors There were no SXT errors. 3.2 BCS errors There were no BCS errors 3.3 SXT Table confirmation error At KSC, the tohbans failed to confirm the uploads via SXTSPT three times during 6-8 March. The first one seems to have been due to a simple operational miss, but the second one seems to have been something else, presumably the cause being the programme itself, because a second table was read into the system. In addition, SXT Chief Observer experienced something unexpected in SXTSPT, i.e. the first screen on entering SXTSPT was the one that normally appears at the time of comparing the on-board and ground tables. This symptom happened a couple of months ago, according to Serge Savy, so it is not likely to be associated with the recent upgrade of the mainframe computers. It is planned that Fujitsu make full investigations of these anomalies starting Monday, hopefully wiping off all the anxieties the future tohbans and SXT Chief Observers would have. 3.4 SXT table transmission A gbo mail (on 6 March) reported that the SXT table had not arrived, but it has turned out later that no table was sent. The report was probably attributable to misunderstanding between SXT Chief Observer and KSC tohbans. The communications took place in the wake of a turmoil that resulted from a medium-size earthquake that resulted in power outage at D toh. 4. DSN Communications -------------------------------------------------------- 4.1 DSN Final schedule for W10 There were two passes cancelled from the final schedule of week 10, because we could not figure out how to reduce the number of OP entries for the weekend. The cancelled passes are: DSS-76 DOY 70/0232 DSS-76 DOY 70/0318 4.2 DSN Final schedule for W11 The following pass was cancelled from the final schedule of week 11, because it was redundant with KSC operations. DSS-46 DOY 73/2017 4.3 DSN Preliminary schedule for W12 A total of 21 passes had to be cancelled from the preliminary schedule. It appears that the cancellation request on the strawman schedule by the previous tohban has not been reflected in the preliminary schedule. Even those passes that were cancelled due to conflicts with ASCA were still included. 4.4 DSN Strawman schedule for W13 We could not cancel passes from the strawman schedule because it arrived only Saturday morning (due to some JPL internal problem) and the meeting with ASCA was postponed to Monday. Hudson san will represent Yohkoh because Katano san will be absent. 4.5 Pass additions None. 4.6 Re-transmission requests and results The following information is from files now kept on flare1 by Katano-san: flare1:/home/flare1/yohkoh/dsn_corrupt/96_10 056 66 0006 We have not received. Yohkoh/ASCA Pass Conflicts at KSC ----------------------------------------- In W10, 4 passes were lost due to conflicts with ASCA. 6. Special Operations -------------------------------------------------------- South offpoint (18') on 6 March, between the third and 5th passes. A new OG was compiled by Hudson san. 7. Holiday Schedule ----------------------------------------------------------- The next holiday will be on Sunday, 17 March. 8. Hikitsugi Items ----------------------------------------------------------- 8.1 Tohbans for W11 KSC : H. Sekiguchi, Y. Nakagawa SSOC: M. Nishio, K. Yaji SXT CO: H. Hudson SXT ST: H. Hara BCS Tohban: A. Sterling HXT CO: J. Sato(?) 8.2 STT timer setting A period of perfect geo-eclipse of Canopus will end at evening Mar 12 (UT). The next STT timer set is due on Mar 13. 8.3 Cancellation of the strawman schedule for week 13. Please get information from Hudson san on the DSN conflict after he sees the ASCA representative on Monday. 8.3 Offpoint terminator images If terminators appear in the OP generated by running OP_FIRST_GUESS, then the OP should be FAXed to the SXT_CO (Chief Observer) in D-toh. The SXT_CO will then inform the SSOC tohbans if offpointing will be carried out. If so, the OP will need be edited appropriately. 8.4 Transmission of OPs It is no longer necessary to confirm the transmission of OP/OG files to KSC by checking the printout on the 3rd floor in B-toh. Instead the time of transmission of the OP/OG files should be noted down. If the SSOC or KSC tohbans notice any failure in transmission of the OP/OG files then it should be reported to Shuto-san and Kosugi-san. 8.5 SXT patrol image dumps A block command `DP BC 8C-05 (hex)' should be executed whenever an SXT Table is uploaded. Since the Sun is very quiet, ARS parameters need to be checked by the SXT patrol images dumped by this command. 8.6 WWW server of DSN The DSN NOCC Information Server (NIS) is now on-line and available for DSN scheduling operations. The URL location is: http://dsn.jpl.nasa.gov/nss But it is not used for operations, so does this item need to be mentioned in the tohban report? 8.7 New Password We now send strawman and preliminary DSN deletions to JPL by three methods: EMAIL, RASM, and FTP. A password is needed for the FTP transfer. Tohbans for the new week should get this password from the previous week's tohbans. 8.8 Manual The manuals have seen a great deal of improvements since one of us (NN) was tohban last time (some 1.5 yrs ago). If anything, the English version seems to be more comprehensive. There are three things the authors may want to look at: (a) The times to be entered in op_first_guess: those should be referred to the actual passes. Sometimes the second pass is given away to ASCA. (b) Sending Files to JPL by RASM. It seems that krasm incorporate change directory to /ydb/orbit_raw, so the full pass is not needed. (c) Negotiating next week's passes with Nagase san (ASCA). Neither of us knew the week+3 is also discussed. Where should we file the sheet for week+3? ------------------------------- End of Report ---------------------------------
