SSOC Tohban Report for Week 11, 1996 (11 March - 17 March 1996) SSOC: M. Nishio, K. Yaji KSC : H. Sekiguchi, Y. Nakagawa 0. Meeting Attendants -------------------------------------------------------- M. Nishio, K. Yaji, T. Watanabe, H. Hara, M. Sawa, T. Yoshida 1. Solar Activity ------------------------------------------------------------ The solar activity became higher than last week because of NOAA7952 appearance. B-class flares frequently occurred on 11-Mar-96, especially. 2. Standard Operations ------------------------------------------------------- 2.1 SXT table uploads Three SXT tables were uploaded: Date (JST) Pass# Table ID ------------------------------------------------- 12 Mar 3 960312 P3 ARS1 DKCAL 13 Mar 2 960313 P2 ARS1 STD+DIFF 14 Mar 2 960314 P2 ARS1 STD+LONG 16 Mar 3 960316 P3 ARS1 STD ------------------------------------------------ 2.2 STT timer setting STT timer was set at pass 1 on 14 March (ID: 960314-0411), and pass 3 on 15 March (ID: 960315-0515). The first one was wrong operation and the second was recovery operation. 2.3 SXT terminator images and S/C offset pointings Date Time (UT) OG comment(OG#) ------------------------------------------------------------- **** there were no offpoint terminator images this week **** ------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Errors and Problems ------------------------------------------------------- 3.1 SXT errors Two Bit map errors were detected at Pass3, 11-Mar-96 and at Pass1, 16-Mar-96, respectively. They were recovered with "reserve command C" in the same passes. 3.2 BCS errors One BCS error was detected at Pass1, 11-Mar-96. It was recovered successfully in Pass3 of the same day. 3.3 Star Tracker (STT) Wrong time data was set to STT timer at pass 1 on 14 March (ID: 960314-0411). Start and end times were alternated in this case. We have corrected them at pass 3 on 15 March (ID: 960315-0515). However, the STT output became abnormal at first contact of KSC on 15 March (ID: 960315-0308), which did not recover after correcting the STT timer data at pass 3 on 15 March (ID: 960315-0515). On May 16, Hara san (NAO) and Fujiwara san (NEC) made special operations to check if the STT catched the real position of the Canopus. They reported that the STT returned to normal state on Mar. 16. This is not final conclusion. 4. DSN Communications -------------------------------------------------------- 4.1 DSN Final schedule for W11 There were two passes canceled from the final schedule of week 11, because it was redundant with KSC operations. DSS-17 DOY 73/0503 DSS-16 DOY 76/0417 4.2 DSN Final schedule for W12 The following pass was canceled from the final schedule of week 12, because it was redundant with KSC operations. DSS-17 DOY 78/0312 4.3 DSN Preliminary schedule for W13 We canceled 2 contacts from the preliminary schedule for week 13. 4.4 DSN Strawman schedule for W13 26 DSN contacts were canceled from the Strawman schedule for week13, including 3 ASCA-conflicts. We canceled passes from the strawman schedule for week13 in this week because it arrived only last Saturday morning (due to some JPL internal problem) and the meeting with ASCA was postponed to this Monday. 4.5 DSN Strawman schedule for W14 46 DSN contacts were canceled from the Strawman schedule for week14, including 18 ASCA-conflicts. 4.6 Pass additions None. 4.7 Re-transmission requests and results As Katano san will be absent in this week, check of DSN data was postponed to next week. 5. Yohkoh/ASCA Pass Conflicts at KSC ----------------------------------------- In W11, 7 passes were lost due to conflicts with ASCA. However, a conflicting pass on Mar. 15 was covered at 6th pass at KSC. In addtion, 4th pass on 16-Mar-96 was given from ASCA for STT check oprtations. As a result, 6 passes were lost due to conflicts in this week. 6. Special Operations -------------------------------------------------------- Due to the problem of STT timer setting, operations to upload 6 OPs and to dump CCD images of the STT were performed during the period from KSC contacts on Mar. 15 and 16. For these operations, PASS4,16-Mar-96 was given from ASCA. 7. Holiday Schedule ----------------------------------------------------------- The next holiday will be on Sunday, 24 March. 8. Hikitsugi Items ----------------------------------------------------------- 8.1 Tohbans for W12 KSC : Y. Nakagawa, M. Takahashi SSOC: T. Yoshida SXT CO : T. Yoshida SXT ST: T. Yoshida BCS Tohban: M. Takahashi HXT CO: J. Sato 8.2 STT timer setting The next STT timer set is due on Mar 19. 8.3 Offpoint terminator images If terminators appear in the OP generated by running OP_FIRST_GUESS, then the OP should be FAXed to the SXT_CO (Chief Observer) in D-toh. The SXT_CO will then inform the SSOC tohbans if offpointing will be carried out. If so, the OP will need be edited appropriately. .... In w12, we will not execute offpointing because the main frame computers for satellite operations will stop first half of this week. 8.4 Transmission of OPs It is no longer necessary to confirm the transmission of OP/OG files to KSC by checking the printout on the 3rd floor in B-toh. Instead the time of transmission of the OP/OG files should be noted down. If the SSOC or KSC tohbans notice any failure in transmission of the OP/OG files then it should be reported to Shuto-san and Kosugi-san. 8.5 SXT patrol image dumps A block command `DP BC 8C-05 (hex)' should be executed whenever an SXT Table is uploaded. Since the Sun is very quiet, ARS parameters need to be checked by the SXT patrol images dumped by this command. 8.6 WWW server of DSN The DSN NOCC Information Server (NIS) is now on-line and available for DSN scheduling operations. The URL location is: http://dsn.jpl.nasa.gov/nss But it is not used for operations, so does this item need to be mentioned in the tohban report? 8.7 New Password We now send strawman and preliminary DSN deletions to JPL by three methods: EMAIL, RASM, and FTP. A password is needed for the FTP transfer. Tohbans for the new week should get this password from the previous week's tohbans. 8.8 Manual Follwing items should be revised in the manual; (a) The times to be entered in op_first_guess: those should be referred to the actual passes. Sometimes the second pass is given away to ASCA. (b) Sending Files to JPL by RASM. It seems that krasm incorporate change directory to /ydb/orbit_raw, so the full pass is not needed. (c) Negotiating next week's passes with Nagase san (ASCA). Neither of us knew the week+3 is also discussed. Where should we file the sheet for week+3? 8.9 Stop of Main Frame Computer The main frame computer used for Yohkoh operation will stop from Mar. 19 13:00(JST) to Mar. 21 13:00(JST). We have made OP tables from Mar. 19 to Mar. 21 and transmitted them to KSC on Mar. 15. Don't fail to check these OPs. ------------------------------- End of Report ---------------------------------
