SSOC Tohban Report for Week 22, 1996 (26 May - 02 June 1996) SSOC: S. Watari and A. Sterling KSC: S. Nagai and S. Hashizume 0. Meeting Attendants ---------------- Hudson, Weber, Ogawara, Kosugi, Sterling, Sawa, Sakao, Sano, Bushimata, Watanabe, Kano, Wang, Hara, Slater, Watari, Nitta, Shimizu 1. Solar Activity ---------------- Solar Activity was low. BBSO reports a "new cycle plage" on 31 May. It appeared in the far north. 2. Standard Operation ---------------- 2.1 SXT table uploads Date(JST) Pass Table ID ------------------------------------------------------------------- Monday 27-MAY-96 1 960526 P1 ARS0 STD+VLA 27-MAY-96 4 960526 P4 ARS1 DKCAL Tuesday 28-MAY-96 1 960527 P1 ARS0 STD XBP 28-MAY-96 4 960527 P4 ARS1 STD+DIFFUSE Wednesday 29-MAY-96 1 960528 P1 ARS0 STD XBP Thursday 30-May-96 4 960529 P4 ARS1 STD+DIFFUSE Friday 31-May-96 1 960530 P1 ARS0 STD XBP 31-May-96 4 960530 P4 ARS1 STD+DIFFU Saturday 01-Jun-96 1 960531 P1 ARS0 STD XBP 01-Jun-96 4 960531 P4 ARS1 STD+LONG Monday 03-Jun-96 2 960602 P2 ARS1 DKCAL ------------------------------------------------------------------- 2.2 STT timer setting The STT timer was set during pass 2 on 28-May (JST). It should be set next during pass 2 on 5-Jun (early morning JST). 3. Errors and Problems ---------------- 3.1 BCS errors None 3.2 SXT errors SXT shutter error found during pass 960528-1343. SXT warm reset error occurred during pass 960528-1446. The shutter error was most likely due to an SEU. Slight complications arose during recovery, principally due to the tohbans being unfamiliar with the recovery procedure. A consequence was the warm reset error during the -1446 pass. After consultations with Supertohban Kano san and others, all SXT errors were cleared by the end of pass 1 the following day. 3.3 SSOC Tohban OP Save Error The SSOC tohbans made an error in creating OP 960530-1134. They printed out the OP after modifying the version made by op_first_guess (adding terminator offpoints and a BCS calibration), but they forgot to press the save button (PF5) in the opogedt editor. So the OP version they FAXed to KSC was modified, but the version actually transmitted to KSC was unmodified. The NEC operators and tohbans at KSC noticed that the two versions were different about 30 minutes before pass 1, and sent up the unmodified version. So the offpoints and the calibration were not performed, but there was no harm done to the satellite. 3.4 Flare 1 Printer Paper Jam The flare 1 printer has been having paper jams frequently since Friday evening. But we found it works if the amount of paper in the tray is modest. 3.5 B-toh FAX The paper feed on the FAX machine gave us trouble frequently during the week. It does not "feed" properly and should be serviced. 4. DSN Communications ---------------- 4.1 DSN Final schedule for W22 We canceled five un-needed passes. 4.2 DSN Final schedule for W23 Three passes were canceled. 4.3 DSN Preliminary schedule for W24 We canceled 15 passes. 4.4 DSN Strawman schedule for W25 The w25 Strawman schedule did not arrive on Friday, so it will have to be handled by the new week's tohban. Hudson san and Sterling will pinch hit for Katano san on Monday. (UK friends: Please excuse the expression!) 4.5 Data transmission from DSN 129 76 2036 Has ASCA header. Requested 10 May. no correspondence. Requested 17 May. no correspondence. Requested 24 May.(Slater-san) Closed/give up. 136 76 1924 7% less than expected. Requested 16 May. no correspondence. Requested 24 May. Closed/give up. 141 76 1549 3% less than expected&head-err Requested 22 May. no correspondence. Requested 24 May. Closed/same data. 141 76 1733 Header is corrupted. Requested 22 May. no correspondence. Requested 24 May. Closed/give up. 142 76 1059 2% less than expected. Requested 24 May. no correspondence. Requested 31 May. 148 76 1253 21% corrupted Requested 31 May. 149 66 0637 not arrived. Requested 31 May. 150 74 1850 100% corrupted. Requested 31 May. 5. Yohkoh/ASUKA Pass Conflicts at KSC ---------------- Four passes in W22 were lost due to conflicts with ASUKA. Six passes in W23 are scheduled to be lost to ASUKA. 6. Special Operations ---------------- None 7. Holiday Schedule ---------------- The next holiday is on Sunday, 9-Jun (JST). 8. Hikitsugi Items ---------------- 8.1 Tohbans for W23 KSC : S. Nagai Yamamoto SSOC : Bushimata S. Sano 8.2 OP Status The OP and command sheets for Monday night have been FAXed to KSC, but the OK has not yet been received. The new tohbans may have to make changes to the OP after the check at KSC, and they may have to modify the command sheets (e.g., SXT table loads may have to be added). The OP must be transmitted to KSC. 8.3 STT timer setting The STT timer should be set during pass 2 on 5-Jun (early morning JST). 8.4 Transmission of OPs It is no longer necessary to confirm the transmission of OP/OG files to KSC by checking the printout on the 3rd floor in B-toh. Instead, the time of transmission of the OP/OG files should be noted down. If the SSOC or KSC tohbans notice any failure in transmission of the OP/OG files then it should be reported to Shuto-san and Kosugi-san. 8.4.1 Checking the FAXed and transmitted versions of the OP. Just before transmitting the OP to KSC, tohbans should verify that the number of lines in the OP to be transmitted is the same as that of the OP that was FAXed to KSC. This will provide a rough check that the FAXed and the transmitted versions of the OP are identical. 8.5 B-toh FAX. If problems continue the FAX must be serviced (see Section 3). 8.6 Katano san Away During Week 23. Katano san is on holiday this week. 8.7 op_first_guess LOS Medium/High Mode. op_first_guess seems to miss switching to medium mode during the next-to-last KSC pass in the OP plan when there are canceled passes between that pass and the last pass. A. Sterling sent a note to Jim Lemen about this. In the meantime, tohbans should be careful to check the KSC LOS mode during the next day's operations in the OP. 8.8 SXT patrol image dumps A block command `DP BC 8C-05 (hex)' should be executed whenever an SXT Table is uploaded. Since the Sun is very quiet, ARS parameters need to be checked by the SXT patrol images dumped by this command. 8.9 WWW server of DSN The DSN NOCC Information Server (NIS) is now on-line and available for DSN scheduling operations. The URL location is: http://dsn.jpl.nasa.gov/nss This is an additional means of checking the final schedule. The automatic ftp system works very well, and using tail_dsn one can confirm the DSN schedule without using either RASM or the Web. 8.10 RASM switch to flare20. The RASM script, krasm, now works on flare20 and not flare11.
