SSOC Tohban Report for Week 24, 1996 (10 June - 16 June 1996) SSOC : J.Koyama and T.Sakao KSC : S.Nagai and T.Magara 0. Meeting Attendants ------------------------------------------------------ S.Savy, M.Weber, J.Khan, H.Tonooka, H.Hara, M.Sawa, T.Watanabe, T.Sakao, J.Koyama, Y.Ogawara, and Y.Hanaoka 1. Solar Activity -------------------------------------------------------- Solar activity was again very low during W24. Soft X-rays from the sun kept around the GOES A1-level for most of the time. Only a small enhancement (reaching about A6) was observed at the beginning of June 11. Yohkoh continued to observe NOAA 7968. This active region has now disappeared behind the west limb. 2. Standard Operations ----------------------------------------------------- 2.1 SXT Table Uploads There were 6 SXT table uploads in W24. All of them were carried out successfully. The pass 2 table upload on June 10 was originally planned for pass 1 but was postponed until pass 2 due to an SXT HALT test operation in pass 1. All the other uploads were carried out according to the schedule presented in the last WOM. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Date/Time(UT) Pass No. Pass ID Table ID ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 10-Jun-96/13:18 2 960610-0927 960610 P2 ARS0 SCHMDR 10-Jun-96/16:44 4 960610-1134 960610 P4 ARS1 STANDARD 11-Jun-96/11:55 2 960611-0824 960611 P2 ARS1 DKCAL 12-Jun-96/10:30 1 960612-0722 960612 P1 ARS1 STANDARD 13-Jun-96/10:50 2 960613-0722 960613 P2 ARS1 DIFFUSER 14-Jun-96/11:09 2 960614-0723 960614 P2 ARS1 STANDARD 15-Jun-96/09:45 2 960615-0620 960615 P2 ARS1 STANDARD ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 2.2 STT Timer Setting The STT timer for W24 was set during pass 2 of 11-Jun-96 (960611-0824). In W25, the setting is due on June 16 (Tue). 2.3 SXT Terminator Images and S/C Offset Pointings A total of 8 SXT terminator images were obtained during W24. All of them were taken with normal S/C pointing. -------------------------------------- Date & Time(UT) S/C PTG. & OG# -------------------------------------- 10-Jun-96 none 11-Jun-96 18:27:59 normal -- 20:05:03 normal -- 12-Jun-96 none 13-Jun-96 09:21:51 normal -- 17:27:43 normal -- 14-Jun-96 09:39:43 normal -- 15-Jun-96 00:14:55 normal -- 01:51:59 normal -- 08:20:47 normal -- -------------------------------------- 2.4 HXT Gain Setting and Calibration Plenty of HXT Gain Set & HXT CAL operation was carried out. Electric gain for one of the HXT sensors (S11) was mistakenly set on June 10; the gain value was determined based on a wrong (telemetered) gain status for S11 caused by an SEU. The cause of this confusion was identified on June 14 and the correct gain value for S11 was set in pass 2 of the same day. ---------------------------------------------------------- Date&Time (UT) Pass No. Pass ID Operation ---------------------------------------------------------- 10-Jun-96 13:18 2 960610-0927 Gain Set 15:11 3 960610-1031 HXT CAL 16:44 4 960610-1134 HXT CAL 12-Jun-96 15:39 4 960612-1032 Gain Set & HXT CAL 17:22 5 960612-1135 HXT CAL 13-Jun-96 14:15 4 960613-0929 HXT CAL 14-Jun-96 11:09 2 960614-0723 Gain Set 14:35 4 960614-0930 HXT CAL 16:17 5 960614-1033 HXT CAL ---------------------------------------------------------- 2.5 BCS Calibration BCS calibration routines (SOURCE CAL and STIM CAL) were carried out as follows: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date & Time (UT) PassNo. Pass ID Calibration ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 13-Jun-96 12:41:19-12:51:59 - ---- BCS SOURCE CAL 14-Jun-96 14:35 4 960614-0930 BCS STIM CAL ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Errors and Problems ----------------------------------------------------- 3.1 SXT Errors None. 3.2 BCS Errors Two BCS errors in W24. The first one was the so called `unflagged' or `invisible' error which does not appear in the KSC monitor display; it was found by the BCS CO at SSOC. The second one was found by KSC tohbans in pass 1 of June 15. BCS successfully recovered from both of the errors by the normal BCS recovery procedure. The following table summarizes pass ID's during which BCS recoveries were carried out. ------------------------------------------- Date & Time (UT) Pass No. Pass ID ------------------------------------------- 11-Jun-96 10:12 1 960611-0721 14-Jun-96 12:51 3 960614-0826 ------------------------------------------- 3.3 HXT Gain Setting As mentioned in 2.4, a wrong electric gain value was set to one of the HXT sensors (S11) on June 10 and was recovered on June 14. The sun was so quiet during this period that we hope there would be no severe impact on HXT observations by this trouble. 4. DSN Communications ------------------------------------------------------ 4.1 DSN Final Schedule for W24 No DSN pass was canceled from the W24 Final Schedule. 4.2 DSN Final Schedule for W25 We received the Final Schedule for W25 on 13-Jun-96. YOHKOH/ASCA Pass Conflicts at KSC --------------------------------------- In W24, three KSC contacts were lost due to pass conflicts with ASCA. --------------------------- Date(JST) Pass ID --------------------------- 12-Jun-96 960612-0825 12-Jun-96 960612-0928 13-Jun-96 960613-0826 --------------------------- Six passes will be lost in W25 due to the conflicts: --------------------------- Date(JST) Pass ID --------------------------- 17-Jun-96 960617-0618 17-Jun-96 960617-0721 18-Jun-96 960618-0722 21-Jun-96 960621-0517 22-Jun-96 960622-0514 22-Jun-96 960622-0618 --------------------------- 6. Special Operations ------------------------------------------------------ 6.1 SXT HALT Test Operation In pass 1 of June 10 (11:35 UT; 960610-0824) OG-46H was changed for a new SXT HALT procedure. The procedure was tested in the same pass. It turned out, however, that the modification was not very successful and the OG was restored to the original one in pass 1 of June 11 (10:12UT; 960611-0721). 7. Holiday Schedule -------------------------------------------------------- The next holiday is 23-Jun-96 (JST). 8. Hikitsugi Items --------------------------------------------------------- 8.1 Tohbans for W25 KSC : T.Magara and S.Tanuma SSOC : H.Tonooka and Y.Hanaoka 8.2 STT Timer Setting The next STT timer setting is due on 18-June-96. 8.3 Strawman Schedule for W27 We did not receive strawman schedule for W27. This week's tohbans please take care of the schedule which is supposed to arrive on Monday. 8.4 OP Status The OP and command sheets for Monday night have been FAXed to KSC and we have received OK. The OP has already been transmitted to KSC. Please note, however, that there may be some changes in the command sheets (e.g., SXT table loads may have to be added). 8.5 Transmission of OPs It is no longer necessary to confirm the transmission of OP/OG files to KSC by checking the printout on the 3rd floor in B-toh. Instead, the time of transmission of the OP/OG files should be noted down. If the SSOC or KSC tohbans notice any failure in transmission of the OP/OG files then it should be reported to Shuto-san and Kosugi-san. 8.6 op_first_guess LOS Medium/High Mode. Please be careful to check the KSC LOS mode during the next day's operations in the OP. 8.7 SXT patrol image dumps A block command `DP BC 8C-05 (hex)' should be executed whenever an SXT Table is uploaded. Since the Sun is very quiet, ARS parameters need to be checked by the SXT patrol images dumped by this command. 8.8 WWW server of DSN The DSN NOCC Information Server (NIS) is now on-line and available for DSN scheduling operations. The URL location is: http://dsn.jpl.nasa.gov/nss This is an additional means of checking the final schedule. The automatic ftp system works very well, and using tail_dsn one can confirm the DSN schedule without using either RASM or the Web. 8.9 RASM switch to flare20. The RASM script, krasm, now works on flare20 and not flare11. 8.10 Trouble of B-toh FAX Machine The B-toh FAX machine trouble reported in the previous week's tohban report has been fixed by a service engineer. Now the machine works fine. 8.11 Keyboard Trouble on Flare20 Flare20 sometimes begins to reject any keyboard input. When this happens, login to flare20 remotely either from flare1 or flare11 and try the "kbd_mode -a" command. If even this command fails, then contact workstation managers (manager@flare2).
