SSOC Tohban Report for Week 29, 1996 (15 July - 21 July) SSOC: Yoshida and Morita KSC: Nishio and Koyama 0. Meeting Attendance ---------------- H. Hudson, J. Khan, S. Masuda, S. Morita, Y. Nakagawa, T. Shimizu, M. Sawa, T. Yoshida 1. Solar Activity ---------------- The 'active' active region 7978 has gone behind the west limb. The GOES intensity decreased two orders of magnitude on 15 July. The background level of the GOES intensity is now less than A Class. 2. Standard Operation ---------------- 2.1. SXT Table Uploads ---------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------- Date(JST) Pass Table ID ---------------------------------------------------------------- Tuesday 16-July-96 4 960715 P4 ARS1 DKCAL Wednesday 17-July-96 3 960716 P2 ARS1 STD+DIFF Wednesday 17-July-96 4 960716 P4 ARS2 JOP045+L Saturday 20-July-96 3 960718 P4 ARS1 STD+LONG ---------------------------------------------------------------- 2.2. STT timer setting ---------------- The STT timer was set during pass 3 on 16-July-96 JST. The next setting should be on 23-July-96 JST. 3. Errors and Problems ---------------- 3.1. Power Down in KSC ---------------- The strong typhoon No.6 passed through Kagoshima on 18 July. The power supply to KSC was stopped from 18 July morning to 19 July evening. The following passes were canceled because of this power down. Pass 3,4 and 5 on 18 July All pass on 19 July The operation restarted on 20 July 1996. But there is one problem. The mini-computer for online data acquisition (A400) is troubled, and will be recovered on Monday. Thus, we cannot send the data received at KSC to Sagamihara till Tuesday, nor do the SXT table upload. 3.2. BCS Errors ---------------- None. 3.3. SXT Errors ---------------- There were two SXT errors and one problem. SHUTER error was detected during the first pass on 17-July-1996 JST. It is recovered by Yobi-A at the first pass and SXT RECOVERY PLAN at the second pass. The SXT table scheduled on the second pass was uploaded on the third pass. WM RST error was detected during the first pass on 20-July-1996 JST. It is recovered by Yobi-A at the first pass and SXT RECOVERY PLAN at the second pass. The SXT table scheduled on the first pass was uploaded on the third pass. The SXT table upload on the third pass 20-July was confirmed only with the MS computer, although we usually make a confirmation both with SXTSPT and the MS computer. Because the mini-computer for online data acquisition (A400) was troubled, and we could not make a confirmation with SXTSPT. 3.4. Unknown Criterion to Change Antennas during DSN Contacts ---- Generally, it is said that we should add the antenna change command (DSN Pause A/B or B/A) in a few minutes from the antenna change time expected by the AOSLOS printout. But there is no document about the permissible time gap between the expected time and the time of the change command. Last week, we added the antenna change commands when the DSN LOS time is more than two minutes after the expected antenna change time. 3.5. SXT Table Upload ---------------- Because of the A400 mini-computer down, we cannot check whether the uploaded SXT table is correct or not. 3.6. OP and SXT Table Transmission to KSC ---------------- The modem between the Sagamihara MS computer and Kagoshima MS computer is downed from 9:00 to 17:00 everyday until 24-July-1996 (from 20-July-1996). SSOC tohban should contact with Kubo-san (one of the NEC people in KSC), when SSOC tohbans and/or SXT_CO send OP and/or SXT Table to MS computer. This modem down is because of the software installation operation for MUSES-B satellite by NEC people. 4. DSN Communications ---------------- 4.1. DSN Final schedule for W29 ---------------- We canceled 7 passes. 6 of these passes were canceled because we cannot upload the OP on 19 July because of the power down problem in KSC. 4.2. DSN Final schedule for W30 ---------------- 4 passes were canceled. 4.3. DSN Preliminary schedule for W31 ---------------- 3 passes were canceled. 4.4. DSN Strawman schedule for W32 ---------------- 49 passes were canceled. 4.5 Data Transmission from DSN ---------------- Problems of data transmission from DSN were listed by Katano-san. ------------------- 181 76 2156 7% corrupted Requested 9 Jul. not correspondence. Yohkoh/ASCA Pass Conflicts at KSC ---------------- 5 passes in W30 are scheduled to be lost for ASCA. 6. Special Operations ---------------- We participated in a SOHO campaign (JOP045, Longcope and Fisher) to study transient brightenings with a mixture of instruments. We also exchanged data with Peter Young and Bill Thompson, who obtained CDS observations of a nice coronal loop in the NE on around 18 July. Coordination with the VLA (Benz) will happen on July 27. The details will be entered on the .plan file of campaign@isass0. 7. Holiday Schedule ---------------- There is NO holiday in this week (W30)!! 8. Hikitsugi Items ---------------- 8.1. Tohbans for W30 ---------------- SSOC: Nakagawa and Masuda KSC: Koyama and Akiyama 8.2. STT Timer setting ---------------- The next setting should be on 23-July-96 JST. 8.3. Op_first_guess LOS Medium/High Mode. ---------------- The op_first_guess fails switching to the medium mode during the KSC passes in the OP plan when there are canceled passes. Alphonse Sterling sent a note to Jim Lemen about this and the SSOC tohbans suppose Jim is working on this. In the meantime, tohbans should be careful to check the KSC LOS mode in the next day's operations in the OP. 8.4. RASM switched to flare20. ---------------- The RASM script, krasm, now works on flare20, but not flare11. 8.5. Flare1 printer ---------------- The new printer next to the flare1 workstation does not accept plain- text files' printing jobs, but works only for PostScript files. Most of printing jobs from flare20 were resumed to work, but it still needs modification of scripts. Report to the software managers, if you notice any problem. The jobs to printout new DSN schedules automatically don't work correctly. We should do this manually. 8.6. OPs and SXT Tables Transmission ---------------- SSOC tohban should contact with Kubo-san (one of the NEC people in KSC), when SSOC tohbans and/or SXT_CO send OP and/or SXT Table to MS computer.
