SSOC Tohban Report for Week 37 (9 Sep. - 16 Sep. 1996) SSOC: A. Sterling & J. Shin KSC : N. Saita & S. Ueno Meeting Attendance ---------------- Nakajima, Koyama, Shin, Sterling. There was no formal meeting on Monday (16-Sep-96) due to a national holiday. 0. Action Items ------------------- Week-37; /Sterling, Flare Manager/ status: OPEN Since the installation of the new flare 1 printer, new DSN schedules have not been printed out automatically as they should be. Jim Lemen is willing to fix this, but a flare manager must tell him how the scripts must be modified to work on that printer. 1. Solar Activity ---------------- Sub-A level for most of the week and sub-B level for all of the week. 2. Errors and Problems ---------------- 3.1 BCS Errors ---------------- No errors 3.2 SXT Errors ---------------- An SXT error was detected during pass 960911-0929 (pass 1), and was recovered during that and the following pass. 3.3 Computer Problems at KSC The KSC tohbans reported trouble with the S-3500-WS on Tuesday, 10-Sep. They also reported trouble with the SA5 and request that it be repaired (see the 960913-14 KSC Tohban Report). 4. DSN Communications ---------------- 4.1 DSN Final schedule for W37 ---------------- Three passes were canceled. The first two of these were due to a problem (condition "red") with the Madrid DSN station (see 4.6). 4.2 DSN Final schedule for W38 ---------------- No passes were canceled. 4.3 DSN Preliminary schedule for W39 ---------------- No passes were canceled. 4.4 DSN Strawman schedule for W40 ---------------- 20 passes were canceled. None(!) of them were due to ASUKA conflicts. 4.5 Mystery Data Loss ---------------- DSN reports that no data dump was received from Yohkoh during a Madrid pass on DOY 249 (5-Sep), 04:35 - 04:45. The OP for that day has the data dump scheduled, and the Madrid antenna setup was reported to be correct, so it is a mystery why DSN did not receive any data. 4.6 DSS 66 (Madrid) Antenna Declared GREEN on 9-Sep-96 ------------ As reported last week, this antenna had been declared red on 8-Sep-96 due to an X-axis encoder problem. We canceled two passes because of the antenna's uncertain status (see 4.1) on 10 Sep. The station returned to full operational status on 9 Sep, but it was too late to change our plans to cancel the passes. 4.7 Data Transmission from DSN ---------------- 239 76 1817 not received Requested 29 Aug. not received Requested 03 Sep. Three passes in W38 are scheduled to be used by ASUKA. 6. Special Operations ---------------- 6.1 Campaigns No special operations related to campaigns this week. However, there was passive support for a VLA filament campaign by Gopalswamy (Maryland) et al. 6.2 BCS Calibrations BCS did a stim calibration during pass 960912-1033, and a source calibration on 960912, near 19:15 UT. 7. Holiday Schedule ---------------- The next KSC holiday is Sun. 22-Sep-1996 JST. 8. Hikitsugi Items ---------------- 8.1. Tohbans for W38 ---------------- SSOC: Nakajima, Koyama KSC : Ueno, Hanaoka (17-) 8.2. STT Timer setting ---------------- The next setting is due on Tuesday, 17-Sep-96 JST. 8.3 Tonight's Operations. The OP for tonight (to be uploaded Monday night) and the command sheets have been sent to KSC for checking. There are two terminators in the OP, but both are to be normal pointing. Changes may be necessary in response to the KSC check, DSN schedule changes, or changes to the SXT table load plans. 8.4 Sirius Data Nothing to report. 8.5 OP_first_guess ---------------- Recall the warning from the previous reports. The op_first_guess fails to switch the KSC LOS quiet high (QT HI) to the medium (QT ME) mode of OP plan in the next day operation when KSC pass2 is canceled. Tohbans should pay attention to this when checking the OP and change it manually. 8.6 New Version of Tohban Manual and Tohban Check Sheet. The English language version of the tohban manual has been updated, and a new version of the Tohban Check Sheet which reflects the changes to the manual has been made. (Thanks to Jim Lemen for updating the Check Sheet.) Tohbans in the upcoming weeks are asked to write in corrections and updates (for either the manual or the checksheet) by hand in the manual when needed. They should also notify A. Sterling of the changes. 8.7 Week-36; /Hudson/ status: OPEN H. Hudson showed the aspect sensor of HXT sensitivity in X-Y axis decreased about 6 pixels. T. Sakao will check again. Week-35-A/I-1 /Ogawara/ status: OPEN Prof. Ogawara will ask Fujitsu to check the health of S-3500 located at KSC, because of the increased number of the problems. There were more problems this week. See section 3.3. Week-35-A/I-2 /Hudson/ status: CLOSED H. Hudson will check the cause of the ``a few to 50 % less than expected'' DSN data receive. It may be due to either an op timing problem, or a problem on DSN side. As a first step, he will check the op timing for those ``a few to 50 % less than expected'' DSN Result: ------------ I checked the timing for the three cases of about 50% data loss reported in [the Week 35] WOM. The results were DOY date loss DSN/AOS BDR REPRO 215 2-Aug 51% less 05:15 05:16:47 228 15-Aug 51% less 19:17 19:17:51 232 19-Aug 54% less 16:04 16:07:11 in all cases the altitude of the pass seemed to be OK. Since these times match well enough, I conclude that there is no obvious reason for missing data and therefore these must be attributed to DSN errors of an unknown sort. I did not check the 3-4% losses because they don't seem like much of a problem Hugh ----------- Week-35-A/I-3 /Shimizu, Hara/ status: OPEN The workstation flare 5 currently located at SSOC should be returned to KSC for operational use. The failed display of the flare 5 currently located at KSC should be sent to SSOC for repair.
