I apologize for not responding sooner. Response to your inquires. 1.) Operating procedures and interface agreements differ between the DSN and non-DSN stations, and it appears the point you bring up of not having pass information provided to you by Wallops and Santiago are some of those differences. I concur that Pass information is necessary for assessing SOLAR or ASTD data quantity and quality. I will discuss this issue with the non DSN station to determine the best method of providing you with the information. FYI, Wallops and Santiago routinely send me via E:MAIL a Post Pass Summary Report, like the one I have included here, for each SOLA or ASTD pass FM GWPS/OPSR TO JFTL/MPSETG SOLAR-A OPERATIONAL PASS REPORT ORBIT NR.8638 1. 04/0438-0448Z (SCHEDULED TRACK TIME) 2. RF AOS : 043930Z 3. DUMP ON : 044013Z 4. DUMP OFF: 044533Z 5. RF LOS : 044600Z 6. ANT: 9METER 7. ANALOG TAPE NR.283 FILE NR.001 8. PLAYBACK TIME 04/0818-0902Z ANALOG 10. BLOCK COUNT: 20556 GWPS SENDS I will investigate the possibility of having Wallops and Santiago provide this information to you via E:MAIL address " seko@flare20.solar.isas .ac.jp." to or what ever E:mail address is appropriate. 2.) Occasionally because of equipment malfunction, ect. data will be lost in real-time, consequently, data blocks sent by the supporting DSN station to the JPL storage medium, CDR, (Central Data Recorder) may be less than the normal 20,000 blocks expected. A general overview of the process of transmitting data collected from a DSN station to ISAS is as follows; After the completion of the real-time support the Comm Chief will que the pass for transmission from the CDR archives by specifying qualifiers, DSS No., GMT start/stop times, Data Type and the telemetry channel that processed the data. The Comm Chief will enter the start and stop times of the playback. The playback activity itself is pretty much automated. At the end of the retransmission the Comm Chief will record the accumulative block count and report this number to you via FAX. If the block count received by ISAS equipment at the completion of the transmission is less than the block count reported by FAX then ISAS may request a retransmission. Data collected by Wallops and Santiago is stored on Digital or analog recorders at the supporting station for post pass played back to ISAS via Goddard and JPL communication lines If the number of blocks received by ISAS is less than 2% than the number of blocks transmitted by JPL, as reported by FAX ,than it seems reasonable that a retransmission of data may be required. 3.) Because the data from Wallops and Santiago is routed through Goddard Message Switching center before arriving at JPL, there is a greater potential for data loss here. Comm line problems between the non-DSN stations and Goddard are transparent to JPL. We will continue to work toward refining and improving our work processes in this area. Thank you for your support and cooperation in this matter. Regards, Jose Valencia 4. 7 New Yohkoh Contact Date: 06 Nov 96 13:59:00 -0700 To: Cc: Stefan.Waldherr@ccmail.jpl.nasa.gov, Michelle.M.Andrews@ccmail.jpl.nasa.gov Subject: Re: retransmission request Dear Seko-san I will no longer be your contact for SOLA issues. I have been assigned to a different department. Please remove my name from your distribution list and add Michelle.A.Andrews@jpl.nasa.gov. Please contact her for all future SOLAR concerns. Regards Jose Valencia 5. Yohkoh/ASCA/AKEBONO Pass Conflicts at KSC: Week 45: 2 passes given to ASCA. Week 46: 4 passes given to ASCA. 6. Special Activities: nothing 7. Holiday Schedule: The next KSC holiday is Sunday, 17-Nov-1996 JST. 8. Hikitsugi Items: 8.1 Tohbans for W46 SSOC: Morita Tonooka KSC: Shinoda Watanabe_H 8.2 STT Timer setting The next setting is due on 12 November (Tuesday). 8.3 Sirius Data Nothing to report. 8.4 Week-35-A/I-1 /Ogawara, Hara/ status: TABLED An action item to investiage the cause of recurrent problems with of the S-3500 at KSC has been tabled because no problems have occurred for several weeks. The investigation will continue if and when further problems recur. As FACOM's interim message, Ogawara reported that the GBIB board might be problematic. If that might be the case, he would seek for a possibility of having another board from Tsuruta's Lab, which we rented during the intial operation of Yohkoh. 8.5 Week-42-A/I-1 /Hudson, Lemen, Yoshida/ status: OPEN T. Yoshida has produced preliminary software to aid in optimizing the Yohkoh DP rate in OPs. The final implementaion of Yoshida san's software will probably have to await the next visit by Jim Lemen 8.6 Week-43A/I-1 /Slater, Watanabe, Seko/ status: CLOSED After discussions with T. Watanabe and Y. Seko, G. Slater responded to the concerns of DSN regarding the number of Yohkoh retransmission requests. J. Valencia replied and our concerns were basically understood.
