SSOC Tohban Report for Week 48 (25 Nov. -- 1 Dec. 1996) SSOC: S. Masuda and N. Nitta KSC: Y. Suematsu and T. Takano Meeting Attendance: Hara, Hudson, Kosugi, Masuda, Nitta, Sawa, Sterling, Watanabe, Weber 1. Solar Activity: Solar activity was low to medium during week 48 with the GOES stationary level staying in the range of B1-B5. There were three active regions AR 7997, 7999 and 8000 and all of them were already in the western hemisphere as of Friday 29 November. AR 7999 produced one M class flare and several C class flares, the most recent one at 1-Dec-96 20:30 UT (C5). 2. Next timer set is planned for pass 4 on 3-Dec. Requested by the KSC tohbans, we have already prepared pass sheets for Tuesday operations, including the information on the STT timer set. 3. Errors and Problems 3.1 SXT Errors No errors. 3.2 BCS Errors No errors. 3.3 Miscellaneous Problems Real-time reformatting ceased to work on Saturday. After Greg Slater rebooted isass0, it restarted. The reason to be investigated. 4. DSN Communications: 4.1 DSN Final schedule for W48 (this week): No passes were canceled. 4.2 DSN Final schedule for W49 (next week): A total of 30 (!) passes were cancelled. These were unnecessary DSN passes. The number means that the previous week's request of cancellation on the preliminary schedule was not reflected in the final schedule supplied by JPL. 4.3 DSN Preliminary schedule for W50: No passes were canceled. 4.4 DSN Strawman schedule for W51: Strawman schedule for W51 did not arrive in time presumably because of a Thanksgiving slowdown. The meeting to negotiate conflict passes is postponed to today (Dec. 2). 4.5 Data Transmission from DSN: (Status: See /home/flare1/yohkoh/dsn_corrupt/96_XX) Seko-san's Report: 317 66 1945 not received Requested 20 Nov. no response Requested 26 Nov. 317 46 2030 not received Requested 20 Nov. no response Requested 26 Nov. 319 17 0410 not received Requested 20 Nov. no response Requested 26 Nov. 319 17 0553 not received Requested 20 Nov. no response Requested 26 Nov. 319 17 0736 not received Requested 20 Nov. no response Requested 26 Nov. 319 66 1840 not received Requested 20 Nov. no response Requested 26 Nov. 322 46 2203 not received Requested 26 Nov. 327 17 0007 not received Requested 26 Nov. 328 17 0150 not received Requested 26 Nov. 327 74 1353 corrupted tape Requested 26 Nov. Closed / correct data 329 74 1247 corrupted tape Requested 26 Nov. 5. YOHKOH/ASCA/AKEBONO Pass Conflicts at KSC: Week 48: 3 passes given to ASCA. Week 49: 7 passes are lost. 3 passes, 3 passes, and 1 pass given to ASCA, Akebono, and Muses-B, respectively. 6. Special Operations: 6.1 Campaigns No Campaigns. 6.2 Instrument Calibrations Nothing. 7. Holiday Schedule: The next KSC holiday is Monday, 9-Dec-96 JST. 8. Hikitsugi Items: 8.1 Tohbans for W49 SSOC: H. Nakajima and H. S. Hudson (-7) KSC: T. Takano and S. Kubo 8.2 STT Timer setting The next setting is due on 3-Dec (Tuesday). But we already ran the mainframe program. 8.3 Sirius Data Nothing to report. 8.4 Times Not to Transmit to KSC Due to preparations for the Muses-B launch the Yohkoh SSOC tohbans should NOT send commands by computer (e.g., transmit OPs) to KSC during the following times (JST): 06-Dec-96 10:00 -- 12:00 06-Dec-96 15:30 -- 17:00 07-Dec-96 15:30 -- 17:00 09-Dec-96 14:00 -- 15:00 11-Dec-96 14:00 -- 16:00 13-Dec-96 17:00 -- 19:00 16-Dec-96 14:00 -- 16:00 18-Dec-96 12:00 -- 14:00 8.5 Terminators Rather than sending a fax as done before, the SSOC tohbans should now send email to the SXT CO (sxt@isass0) the terminators schedule so he can decide about offpoints or filters to be used. 8.6 Printout of OGs KSC tohbans reported that the printout of OGs is not neatly filed at KSC. In order to avoid confusion, it is advised that the most recent information (with the date of update) be kept separate from the old one. 8.7 Pass 3 on 7 December An NEC commander expressed concern that there is only 19 min margin for the Yohkoh's third pass on 7 December after an Akebono contact. He requested that something be done... 8.8 Yohkoh and Muses-B KSC conflict (1-DEC-96 - 1-FEB-97) Due to preparations for the launch of Muses-B the following is a list of passes expected to be lost by Yohkoh and proposed holidays: DAY(JST) COMMENT 2-DEC-96(Mon.) Holiday 6-DEC-96(Fri.) 1 pass loss 9-DEC-96(Mon.) Holiday 16-DEC-96(Mon.) Holiday 22-DEC-96(Sun.) Holiday 28-DEC-96(Sat.) work end of 1996 4-JAN-97(Sat.) work start of 1997 12-JAN-97(Sun.) Holiday 15-JAN-97(Wed.) 3 passes loss 16-JAN-97(Thu.) 3 passes loss 17-JAN-97(Fri.) 3 passes loss 20-JAN-97(Mon.) Holiday 21-JAN-97(Tue.) 4 passes loss 22-JAN-97(Wed.) 4 passes loss 23-JAN-97(Thu.) Holiday 28-JAN-97(Tue.) Holiday 9. Action Items 9.1 Week-48-A/I-1 /Hudson/ Status: to be dealt with this week As reported in 4.2 (and 4.3 in the last week's report), our cancellation request on the preliminary (strawman) schedule is sometimes not incorporated in the final (preliminary) schedule sent by JPL during the next week. One possibility is that our request does not arrive in time for the meeting at JPL. Hugh Hudson volunteered to investigate the reason. 9.2 Week-48-A/I-1 /software@isass0/ Status: to be resolved shortly The GOES event files do not exist after week 96_39, resulting in the `NO GOES EVENT DATA AVAILABLE' mark in the SSOC tohban reports over the past ten weeks or so. Is this due to low solar activity (no flares)? Apparently not. 9.3 Week-46-A/I-1 /Ogawara/ Status: in progress Greg Slater reported that the Sony LD recorders of D-toh have some trouble writing images. Thanks to Prof. Ogawara's prompt actions, one of the devices (LD 3000) has already been shipped to SONY for repair. 9.4 Week-42-A/I-1 /Hudson, Lemen, Yoshida/ status: DEFERRED UNTIL JIM'S VISIT T. Yoshida has produced preliminary software to aid in optimizing the Yohkoh DP rate in OPs. The final implementation of Yoshida san's software will probably have to await the next visit to ISAS by Jim Lemen. 9.5 Week-35-A/I-1 /Ogawara, Hara/ status: DEFERRED An action item to investigate the cause of recurrent problems with of the S-3500 computer at KSC has been deferred because no problems have occurred for several weeks. The investigation will continue if and when further problems recur. As FACOM's interim message, Ogawara-sensei reported that the GBIB board might be problematic. If that might be the case, he would see it is would be possible to have another board from from a computer in Tsuruta-san's Lab, which we borrowed during the initial operations of Yohkoh.
