SSOC Tohban Report for Week 49 (2 Dec -- 9 Dec 1996) SSOC: H. Nakajima and H. Hudson KSC: T. Takano, S. Kubo Meeting Attendance: Hara, Nakajima, Sawa, Shin, Watanabe Kahn, Savy, Weber 1. Solar Activity: AR7999 finished with a flourish and then occulted suddenly, as had the big active regions associated with AR7978. At the weekend there was absolute quiet again. 2. Standard Operation: 2.1 SXT Table Uploads: ------------------------------------------------------------ Pass ID Pass # Table ID ------------------------------------------------------------ Tue 961203-0310 4 961203 P4 ARS1 STANDARD Wed 961204-0103 2 961204 P2 ARS1 DARKCAL Thu 961205-0104 2 961205 P2 ARS0 JOP 057 Thu 961205-0311 4 961205 P4 ARS1 STD+DIFF Fri 961206-0101 2 961206 P2 ARS1 STD+LONG ------------------------------------------------------------ 2.2 STT timer setting The STT timer was set during pass 4 on 3-Dec. The next timer set is planned for pass 4 on 10-Dec. It has been prepared by this week's thoughtful SSOC tohbans. 3. Errors and Problems 3.1 SXT Errors Bit map error at Pass 1 on Dec. 8. Recovered by Command C. 3.2 BCS Errors No errors. 3.3 Trouble with S3500 (KSC) After KSC Toban carried out AOS-check in Pass 3 of Dec. 8 operation, S3500 did stop to work. The computer was recovered by on-off of the electric power after the end of Pass 3. 3.4 Yohkoh pointing. To make a little more room above the N pole, and to facilitate the SXT terminator program, the NORMAL POINT OG#32 (dec) was revised 6-dec-96 to move the S/C axis 30" north. The new OG is called NEW NORMAL POINT. 3.5 Akebono conflict resolution. There were conflicts on Dec. 5 and on Dec. 7 that had not been properly resolved. Obara-san of Akebono was consulted and agreed to stop Akebono operations a little early in both cases. The KSC tohbans reported that on Dec. 5, after the pass 1 operation, that the NEC duty person for Akebono operations had not been informed in advance of this decision by Obara-san, and the NEC Yohkoh duty person had to ask the Akebono duty person to stop Akebono operations just prior to Yohkoh operations on pass 1. 3.6 Kermit problem Flare20 and Kermit had gotten into a state from which file transfer could somehow not be done. A request to manager@flare2 and a reboot seemed to fix the problem. 3.7 .mailrc error Due to # signs in aliases in the .mailrc file, the mailer produces errors. Manager@flare2 has been requested to fix the file. It is read-only even to "yohkoh", which is probably a good thing in view of this little problem. 4. DSN Communications: 4.1 DSN Final schedule for W50 (this week): Three passes were cancelled. 4.2 DSN Preliminary schedule for W51: 27 passes were cancelled. This large number was presumably due to the problems DSN had with RASM entry; e-mail was exchanged and we concluded that there had been no procedural errors on the Yohkoh side. 4.3 DSN Strawman schedule for W52: 31 passes were cancelled. 4.4 Data Transmission from DSN: (Status: See /home/flare1/yohkoh/dsn_corrupt/96_XX) Seko-san's Report: 327 17 0007 not received Requested 26 Nov. no response Requested 03 Dec. 328 17 0150 not received Requested 26 Nov. Closed / correct data 329 74 1247 corrupted tape Requested 26 Nov. Closed / correct data 333 17 0142 not received Requested 05 Dec. 336 16 2150 corrupted tape Requested 05 Dec. 4.5 Trouble with data transmission from DSN DSN Informed us on Dec. 7 (23:00 JST) that they had lost commumications with the ISAS computer since Dec. 6, 03:00 UT, and asked us to check the gateway processor of the ISAS computer. I sent Yamada-san the message of this problem this morning. The data transmission from DSN was already recovered since Dec. 8, 18:10:23 JST. 5. YOHKOH/ASCA/AKEBONO Pass Conflicts at KSC: Week 49: 7 passes were cancelled. Week 50: 6 passes were cancelled. 6. Special Operations: 6.1 Campaigns No Campaigns. A rehearsal was done for the "jetlet" campaign next week. 6.2 Instrument Calibrations None. 7. Holiday Schedule: The next KSC holiday is Monday, 16-Dec-96 JST. 8. Hikitsugi Items: 8.1 Tohbans for W50 SSOC: J. Shin, S. Savy KSC: S. Kubo, S. Sano (recommendation: For symmetry, Shin-san should change his given name to something starting with S. Then Kubo-san should change his family name likewise.) 8.2 STT Timer setting The next setting is due on 10-Dec (Tuesday). Already prepared. 8.3 Sirius Data Nothing to report. 8.4 Times Not to Transmit to KSC Due to preparations for the Muses-B launch the Yohkoh SSOC tohbans should NOT send commands by computer (e.g., transmit OPs) to KSC during the following times (JST): 06-Dec-96 10:00 -- 12:00 06-Dec-96 15:30 -- 17:00 07-Dec-96 15:30 -- 17:00 09-Dec-96 14:00 -- 15:00 11-Dec-96 14:00 -- 16:00 13-Dec-96 17:00 -- 19:00 16-Dec-96 14:00 -- 16:00 18-Dec-96 12:00 -- 14:00 8.5 Terminators Rather than sending a fax as done before, the SSOC tohbans should now send email to the SXT CO (sxt@isass0) the terminators schedule so he can decide about offpoints or filters to be used. For the near term, there will be no Yohkoh offpoints for terminators. 8.6 Printout of OGs KSC tohbans reported that the printout of OGs is not neatly filed at KSC. In order to avoid confusion, it is advised that the most recent information (with the date of update) be kept separate from the old one. 8.7 Yohkoh and Muses-B KSC conflict (1-DEC-96 - 1-FEB-97) Due to preparations for the launch of Muses-B the following is a list of passes expected to be lost by Yohkoh and proposed holidays: DAY(JST) COMMENT 9-DEC-96(Mon.) Holiday 16-DEC-96(Mon.) Holiday 22-DEC-96(Sun.) Holiday 28-DEC-96(Sat.) work end of 1996 4-JAN-97(Sat.) work start of 1997 12-JAN-97(Sun.) Holiday 15-JAN-97(Wed.) 3 passes loss 16-JAN-97(Thu.) 3 passes loss 17-JAN-97(Fri.) 3 passes loss 20-JAN-97(Mon.) Holiday 21-JAN-97(Tue.) 4 passes loss 22-JAN-97(Wed.) 4 passes loss 23-JAN-97(Thu.) Holiday 28-JAN-97(Tue.) Holiday 8.8 Muses-B, Asca and Yohkoh conflict in the Operation Room (KSC) A group of Muses-B people began to put the workstations for operation of Muses-B, adjacent to the Asca operation desk, in the KSC operation room. They are planning to bring some other instruments in the room in near future. How to share the KSC operation room should be discussed amond Muses-B, Asca and Yohkoh groups. 8.9 Network Crash: Contact persons The Network, which connected KSC workstations and Sagamihara computer #1, did not work during evening on Dec. 6 and 14:00 on Dec. 7. In such a case, you should contact Miura-san (ex., 2420) or Tyouki-san (ex., 2410) at ISAS (Sagamihara). 9. Action Items 9.1 Week-48-A/I-1 /Hudson/ Status: to be dealt with this week As reported previously, our cancellation request on the preliminary (strawman) schedule is sometimes not incorporated in the final (preliminary) schedule sent by JPL during the next week. One possibility is that our request does not arrive in time for the meeting at JPL. Hugh Hudson volunteered to investigate the reason. Closed 4-dec-96: e-mail was exchanged with DSN and they cheerfully accepted responsibility for the problem. 9.2 Week-48-A/I-1 /software@isass0/ Status: to be resolved shortly The GOES event files do not exist after week 96_39, resulting in the `NO GOES EVENT DATA AVAILABLE' mark in the SSOC tohban reports over the past ten weeks or so. Is this due to low solar activity (no flares)? Apparently not. Closed 3-dec-96: e-mail was exchanged among Nitta, Kiplinger, and Freeland, and Freeland quickly patched things up. 9.3 Week-46-A/I-1 /Ogawara/ Status: in progress Greg Slater reported that the Sony LD recorders of D-toh have some trouble writing images. Thanks to Prof. Ogawara's prompt actions, one of the devices (LD 3000) has already been shipped to SONY for repair. 9.4 Week-42-A/I-1 /Hudson, Lemen, Yoshida/ status: DEFERRED UNTIL JIM'S VISIT T. Yoshida has produced preliminary software to aid in optimizing the Yohkoh DP rate in OPs. The final implementation of Yoshida san's software will probably have to await the next visit to ISAS by Jim Lemen. Comment 6-dec-96 : Tohban Hudson had no time to study the situation during his week but regrets it. 9.5 Week-35-A/I-1 /Ogawara, Hara/ status: DEFERRED An action item to investigate the cause of recurrent problems with of the S-3500 computer at KSC has been deferred because no problems have occurred for several weeks. The investigation will continue if and when further problems recur. As FACOM's interim message, Ogawara-sensei reported that the GBIB board might be problematic. If that might be the case, he would see it is would be possible to have another board from from a computer in Tsuruta-san's Lab, which we borrowed during the initial operations of Yohkoh.
