The next timer set is planned for pass 4 on 16-Dec. It has been prepared by this week's SSOC tohbans. 3. Errors and Problems 3.1 SXT Errors and Problems No SXT errors, but a bright vertical stripe across the CCD appeared between 06:00 and 12:00 UT on 12 Dec. This was a result of the use of long exposure FFI images and the presence of a bright active region at the east limb. Participation in JOP057 campaign was suspended on 13-Dec because of the problem. This is the third temporary over-exposure stripe to occur this year. 3.2 BCS Errors No BCS errors. 3.3 Rasm/FLARE20 problem The krasm program on flare20 hung-up several times on Monday. Rebooting seemed to fix the problem. The keyboard on flare20 hung-up on Saturday afternoon for no apparent reason. 4. DSN Communications: 4.1 Cancellations for W50: We had to cancel 2 DSN passes on 16-Dec-96 (the holiday) in order to make the weekend OP fit in 128 slots. The cancellations were confirmed by DSN. 4.2 DSN Final schedule for W51 (this week): No passes were cancelled. 4.3 DSN Preliminary schedule for W51: 3 passes were cancelled. 4.4 DSN Strawman schedule for W52: The strawman schedule did not arrive until Saturday. We will work on the strawman schedule today (Monday). 4.5 DSN Scheduling Procedure We had a FAX from Albert Chang at JPL describing the scheduling request procedure as JPL NOCC has been receiving a lot of FAX messages about scheduling requests. The procedure has changed for real time requests that must be taken care of immediately. Now tohbans must call the Ops Chief, notifying him that a scheduling request will be sent by fax to NOCC. Then send the request by FAX to both the NOCC and the DSN Scheduler. For normal scheduling requests the procedure is still to use use RASM and E-mail only. 4.6 Data Transmission from DSN: (Status: See /home/flare1/yohkoh/dsn_corrupt/96_XX) 4.7 Clarification of Santiago Usage We had a message (appended to this report) in response to a query from Hudson. YOHKOH/ASCA/AKEBONO Pass Conflicts at KSC: Week 50: 6 passes were cancelled. Week 51: 6 passes were cancelled. 6. Special Operations: 6.1 Campaigns JOP057 - the search for "jetlets" at the north pole was carried out between KSC passes for most of the week. Several small jets were observed at the pole on 11 December. The campaign was suspended on 13 December because of the SXT CCD problem (sec. 3.1). 6.2 Instrument Calibrations There was a BCS stim cal during KSC pass 4 on 14-Dec(JST), and a BCS source calibration at 21:25 13-Dec(UT). 7. Holiday Schedule: The next KSC holiday is Sunday, 22-Dec-96 JST. 8. Hikitsugi Items: 8.1 Tohbans for W51 SSOC: Y Kato M Shimojo KSC: S Sano T Noguchi 8.2 STT Timer setting The next setting is due on 16-Dec (Tuesday). Already prepared. 8.3 Sirius Data Nothing to report. 8.4 Times Not to Transmit to KSC Due to preparations for the Muses-B launch the Yohkoh SSOC tohbans should NOT send commands by computer (e.g., transmit OPs) to KSC during the following times (JST): 16-Dec-96 14:00 -- 16:00 18-Dec-96 12:00 -- 14:00 8.5 Terminators Rather than sending a fax as done before, the SSOC tohbans should now send email to the SXT CO (sxt_co@isass0) the terminators schedule so he can decide about offpoints or filters to be used. 8.6 Printout of OGs KSC tohbans reported that the printout of OGs is not neatly filed at KSC. In order to avoid confusion, it is advised that the most recent information (with the date of update) be kept separate from the old one. 8.7 Yohkoh and Muses-B KSC conflict (1-DEC-96 - 1-FEB-97) Due to preparations for the launch of Muses-B the following is a list of passes expected to be lost by Yohkoh and proposed holidays: DAY(JST) COMMENT 16-DEC-96(Mon.) Holiday 22-DEC-96(Sun.) Holiday 28-DEC-96(Sat.) work end of 1996 4-JAN-97(Sat.) work start of 1997 12-JAN-97(Sun.) Holiday 28-JAN-97(Tue.) Holiday 8.8 Contact persons in case of ISAS-KSC network crash. The Network, which connected KSC workstations and Sagamihara computer #1, apparantly was down twice in W49. If this happens you should contact Miura-san (ex., 2420) or Tyouki-san (ex., 2410) at ISAS (Sagamihara). 9. Action Items 9.1 Week-46-A/I-1 /Ogawara/ Status: in progress Greg Slater reported that the Sony LD recorders of D-toh have some trouble writing images. Thanks to Prof. Ogawara's prompt actions, one of the devices (LD 3000) has already been shipped to SONY for repair. 9.2 Week-42-A/I-1 /Hudson, Lemen, Yoshida/ status: DEFERRED UNTIL JIM'S VISIT T. Yoshida has produced preliminary software to aid in optimizing the Yohkoh DP rate in OPs. The final implementation of Yoshida san's software will probably have to await the next visit to ISAS by Jim Lemen. Comment 6-dec-96 : Tohban Hudson had no time to study the situation during his week but regrets it. 9.3 Week-35-A/I-1 /Ogawara, Hara/ status: DEFERRED An action item to investigate the cause of recurrent problems with of the S-3500 computer at KSC has been deferred because no problems have occurred for several weeks. The investigation will continue if and when further problems recur. As FACOM's interim message, Ogawara-sensei reported that the GBIB board might be problematic. If that might be the case, he would see it is would be possible to have another board from from a computer in Tsuruta-san's Lab, which we borrowed during the initial operations of Yohkoh. ---------------------------------------------- APPENDIX Subject: Re: clarification on Santiag Author: leroy.henry@nccmail.gsfc.nasa.gov at Internet Date: 12/13/96 6:58 AM -- see attachments -- --JPLxxxccMailxxxSMTPxxxID13524gc46x Content-Type: Text/Plain; CharSet=US-ASCII Content-Description: TEXT_1 RE>clarification on Santiago usage (fwd) 12/13/96 NASA is currently paying for 6 hours per day of support and not using all of it. The "rule of thumb" projects should use is: if they can benefit from some support, REQUEST IT!!! If AGO starts getting consistently overscheduled, GSFC can ask the projects to back off a little but if in doubt, they should request all they can use. NASA has provisions in AGO agreement for "smoothing" over the quarter so if we overschedule this month, it can balance out some underscheduling last month. We have the service available. Let's use it. They should, of course, refer to the Link Commitment Schedule for AGO availability. AGO present working hours are 1130-2230Z 7 days a week. (see STDN Link Commitment Schedule - Copy attached. AGO holiday schedule is based upon Station commitment messages sent to the GSFC NCC Scheduling. Dates and times for requested administrative holidays can be found in the Network Operations Forecast (Section 3 Major System Downtimes (see attached forecast). AGO has submitted request for Christmas and New Year holiday downtime.
