SSOC Tohban Report for Week 52 (23 Dec -- 28 Dec 1996) SSOC: T. Sakurai and T. Sakao KSC: T. Noguchi and S. Sano We did not have this week's operations meeting due to a national holiday. 1. Solar Activity: The NOAA AR 8004 has gone behind the limb while NOAA 8005 remaind on the solar disk. Solar activity kept slightly below B-level during the most of the week but it decreased to A-level towards the weekend. A C2.1 flare commenced at 20:53 UT on Dec.23. There were three B-class flares in W52. 2. Standard Operation: 2.1 SXT Table Uploads: ---------------------------------------------------------------- Date Pass ID Pass # Table ID ---------------------------------------------------------------- Dec.23 (Mon) 961223-1136 3 961223 P3 ARS1 STANDARD 24 (Tue) 961224-1030 2 961224 P2 ARS1 STD+DIF 26 (Thu) 961226-1032 3 961226 P3 ARS1 STANDARD 27 (Fri) 961227-1032 3 961227 P3 ARS1 STANDARD (*) ---------------------------------------------------------------- (*) This also serves as the new year holiday table. 2.2 STT timer setting There were three STT timer settings this week. The next timer set is due on Jan. 4. ----------------------------------- Date (JST) Pass ID Pass # ----------------------------------- Dec.24 (Tue) 961223-1136 3 26 (Thu) 961225-1238 4 28 (Sat) 961228-1033 4 ----------------------------------- 3. Errors and Problems 3.1 SXT Errors and Problems Bitmap errors: Dec.24 pass 2 25 pass 1 Each of the errors was recovered during the same pass. 3.2 BCS Errors A BCS error occured in 26-Dec-96 Pass 2 (PASS No. 961226-0928) and was recovered during the same pass. 3.3 Preparing AOSLOS files manually on isass0 As AOSLOS files on workstations (with 16 s interval) used by the op_first_guess program cover (only) 10 days, we encountered a difficulty in preparing an OP for Jan. 4-5, i.e. after the long new year holiday. The cron-generated AOSLOS file covered until the end of Jan. 4 while the OP in question required an AOSLOS file covering both Jan. 4 and 5. Hudson san and Lemen san kindly looked into this problem and showed us how to make manually an AOSLOS file as shown below. Using the file with the 24-Dec-96 orbital element, we could successfully prepare the OP. Hudson san and Lemen san are greatly appreciated for their prompt and appropriate help. ============================================================================ Date: Fri, 27 Dec 1996 19:28:01 -0800 From: James R. Lemen To: hudson@isass0.solar.isas.ac.jp, lemen@isass0.solar.isas.ac.jp, software@isass0.solar.isas.ac.jp Subject: Re: urgent Cc: sakao@flare2.solar.isas.ac.jp, yohkoh@flare1.solar.isas.ac.jp Hello Hugh, The file is there: -rw-rw-rw- 1 lemen ydbase 8695932 Dec 28 12:24 970105-0114_16s.ascii I used the command: IDL> mk_aoslos,'5-jan-97',16,54000. I think the problem was that you did not have write permission to the /ydb/orbit_raw directory. The way around this would have been to do the following: 1. Log into isass0 and run the mk_aoslos program as above. The routine will default to writing the file in the current directory. 2. Then log in as yohkoh on some machine (flare21, for example) and copy the 9*_16s.ascii file to the /ydb/orbit_raw directory. In any case, op_first_guess should now see the file. Regards, Jim ============================================================================ 4. DSN Communications: In W52, there was significant delay in the delivery of final (and also strawman) schedule from JPL, which caused some difficulty in preparing the long new year holiday OP that had to be uploaded in Saturday night. 4.1 Cancellations for W52: We cancelled 11 DSN passes for the new year's holiday OP. 4.2 DSN Final schedule for W01 (this week): Final schedule for W01 appeared in RASM on Friday while it appeared in the FTP directory on Saturday. 60 (!!) DSN passes were cancelled mainly for the new year holiday OP. 4.3 DSN Preliminary schedule for W02: 25 passes were cancelled from W02 preliminary schedule. 4.4 DSN Strawman schedule for W03: The strawman schedule did not arrive in W52. The weekly negotiation meeting with ASCA was postponed to the new year. 4.5 Data Transmission from DSN: (Status: See /home/flare1/yohkoh/dsn_corrupt/96_XX) 5. YOHKOH/ASCA/AKEBONO Pass Conflicts at KSC: Week 52: 4 passes were cancelled. Week 01: 4 passes were cancelled. 6. Special Operations: 6.1 HXT Calibrations There was an HXT CAL during KSC pass 2 on 23-Dec. 7. Holiday Schedule: The next KSC holiday is Jan. 12 (Sun) JST. 8. Hikitsugi Items: 8.1 Tohbans for W01 SSOC: S. Akiyama and Y. Kato KSC: Te. Watanabe and J. Koyama 8.2 STT Timer setting The next STT Timer setting is due on 4-Dec (UT). The command has already been prepared. 8.3 Sirius Data Nothing to report. 8.4 Terminators Rather than sending a fax as done before, the SSOC tohbans should now send email to the SXT CO (sxt_co@isass0) the terminators schedule so he can decide about offpoints or filters to be used. 8.5 Yohkoh and Muses-B KSC conflict (1-DEC-96 - 1-FEB-97) Due to preparations for the launch of Muses-B the following is a list of passes expected to be lost by Yohkoh and proposed holidays: DAY(JST) COMMENT 28-DEC-96(Sat.) work end of 1996 4-JAN-97(Sat.) work start of 1997 12-JAN-97(Sun.) If this happens you should contact Miura-san (ex., 2420) or Tyouki-san (ex., 2410) at ISAS (Sagamihara). 8.7 DSN Scheduling Procedure In week 51, we recieved from Albert Chang at JPL. Plesae refer the ssoc tohban report of w51. But there is not a telephone number of NOCC in this FAX. NOCC tel. No. is NOCC Tel No. +1-818-393-7990. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 9. Action Items 9.1 Week-46-A/I-1 /Ogawara/ Status: CLOSE Greg Slater reported that the Sony LD recorders of D-toh have some trouble writing images. Thanks to Prof. Ogawara's prompt actions, Laser Disk Recorder (LVS-5000A & LVR-5000A) has already been made repairs by Sony System Service co. and came back to D-toh. 9.2 Week-42-A/I-1 /Hudson, Lemen, Yoshida/ status: DEFERRED UNTIL JIM'S VISIT T. Yoshida has produced preliminary software to aid in optimizing the Yohkoh DP rate in OPs. The final implementation of Yoshida san's software will probably have to await the next visit to ISAS by Jim Lemen. 9.3 Week-35-A/I-1 /Ogawara, Hara/ status: DEFERRED An action item to investigate the cause of recurrent problems with of the S-3500 computer at KSC has been deferred because no problems have occurred for several weeks. The investigation will continue if and when further problems recur. As FACOM's interim message, Ogawara-sensei reported that the GBIB board might be problematic. If that might be the case, he would see it is would be possible to have another board from from a computer in Tsuruta-san's Lab, which we borrowed during the initial operations of Yohkoh. 9.4 Week-51-A/I-1 /flare WS Manager status: CLOSE In week 51, the krasm program on flare20 hung-up several times. The krasm problem did not occur in week 52.
