SSOC Tohban Report for Week 06 (03 Feb -- 09 Feb 1997) SSOC : Sterling & Nishino KSC : Saita & Tonooka Meeting Attendance : Watanabe, Hudson, Sawa, Nishino, Slater, Freeland, Nitta, Sterling, Nishio, Suematsu, Hara 1. Solar Activity: The Sun was quiet during most of the week, with one C-flare on 4-Feb. 2. Standard Operation: 2.1 SXT Table Uploads: ------------------------------------------------------------ Pass ID Pass # Table ID ------------------------------------------------------------ Mon 970203-1343 3 970203 P3 ARS0 FILAMENT Tue 970204-1443 3 970204 P3 ARS1 DARKCAL Wed 970205-1237 2 970205 P2 ARS0 FILAMENT Thu 970206-1341 3 970206 P3 ARS1 STD+DIFF Fri 970207-1238 3 970207 P3 ARS1 STD+LONG Sat 970208-1239 3 970208 P3 ARS0 FILAMENT Mon 970209-1033 2 (sic) 970209 P3 ARS0 DARKCAL ------------------------------------------------------------ 2.1 STT timer setting: The STT timer was set during pass 2 (970203-1239) on 03-Feb-97, and also during pass 1 (970209-0929) on 09-Feb-97. We did it twice this week in order to avoid involved operations during MUSES-B flight operations times early next week. The next timer setting should be done on Friday Feb 14 or Sat Feb 15, as MUSES-B operations permit. The timer setting for the following week should be done on Tuesday 18 Feb, in order to return to the normal pattern. 2.2 Terminators ----------------------------- Date Time S/C Pointing ----------------------------- 970203 160103 W5.12 N.023 970205 145839 W5.12 N.023 970207 055024 W5.12 N.023 970207 121912 W5.12 N.023 970207 153352 W5.12 N.023 970208 043127 W5.12 N.023 970208 060831 W5.12 N.023 ----------------------------- 3. Errors and Problems 3.1 BCS Errors and Problems: There were two BCS Errors last week, both standard SEUs: Found and recovered in pass 970201-1445, and found and recovered in pass 970204-1547. 3.2 SXT Errors and Problems: An SXT 'FRMDT' error occurred during pass 970205-1548. Yobi-A command was issued, but the shutter remained 'OPEN' and the filter remained '1/3'. Yobi-B command was then issued, with the results: 'SXT CTL MANU','shutter:CLOSE','SXT ERR:INVALID MAIL','PWR:C,D,G=ON'and 'filter:3/1'. The recovery was successfully completed during the first pass the following day (pass no: 970206-1134). 3.3 Mis-commanding during pass Near the end of pass 970208-1343, the KSC commander inadvertently issued a TMX H REP command instead of the planned BDR REC command. There seems to have been no problem with the data dump due to this error at this point. 3.4 KSC Problems: 3.4.1 Flare 4 reboot: Flare 4 had to be rebooted just prior to pass 970206-1548. No further information is known about the reason, but operations were apparently not affected. 3.5 B-Toh Fax Fixed. One of the tray tables of the B-toh FAX was defective, requiring that it be left in an opened position for FAX operation. (Apparently this situation had existed since the end of last year.) It was repaired on 4 Feb. 4. DSN Communications: 4.1 Cancelations for W06: Two passes were canceled for 9 Feb (verified by tail_dsn). 4.2 DSN Final schedule for W07: No passes were canceled. 4.4 DSN Preliminary schedule for W08: One pass was canceled. 4.5 DSN Strawman schedule for W09: 31 passes were canceled. 4.6 Data Transmission from DSN: 031 17 1530 not received Requested 04 Feb. 035 76 0822 corrupted Requested 07 Feb. 035 76 1005 corrupted Requested 07 Feb. 4.7 LACK of Communications. Three passes requested for cancelation last week by FAX and RASM were not received by DSN until it was too late. As a result, DSN waited for non-existent transmissions from Yohkoh. Actually, as we have been informed once before, last minute cancelations to DSN should be accompanied by a phone call. Appendix 1 is a note from DSN regarding last week's lost passes, and Appendix 2 contains a response. Another vital SSOC tohban procedure which seems to be forgotten sometimes is to be sure that DSN has actually acknowledged pass cancelation requests. If the tohbans do not see that the requested cancelations have been carried out (e.g., by checking tail_dsn, etc.), they have to notify DSN by phone and FAX that Yohkoh has canceled the downlinks. 5. YOHKOH/ASCA/AKEBONO/MUSES-B Pass Conflicts at KSC: 5.1 Canceled passes for W06-07 Week 06: 3 passes was canceled for ASCA and 2 passes for AKEBONO. Week 07: 2 passes will be canceled for Muses-B, and 1 pass for AKEBONO. The launch operation for Muses-B will be done from 11-Feb, so the next holidays are 11-Feb-1997 and 12-Feb-1997. In addition, three passes on 970209 were canceled due to a last-minute request from MUSES-B (The tohbans thank Hara-san for taking care of the operations for them on Saturday night and Sunday morning). 6. Special Operations: BCS Calibrations were done during pass 970203-1446 (Stim cal), and on 970204, near 21:09 UT (Source cal). HXT calibrations were done six times at 1 pass of 970204,1 pass of 970205,2 pass of 970205,1 pass of 970208, and 2 pass of 970209. One more HXT cal was scheduled for pass 1 of 970209, but it was canceled due to a last-minute request for passes from MUSES-B. 7. Holiday Schedule: The next holidays are currently scheduled for 11-Feb-1997 and 12-Feb-1997, but this could change if the plan for MUSES-B changes. 8. Hikitsugi Items: 8.1 Tohbans for W07 SSOC: Nishio, Suematsu & Saito_M KSC: Tonooka & Akiyama 8.2 STT Timer setting See Section 2.1 8.3 Monday night's OP and Week 07 KSC Schedule. Due to the huge uncertainties in the projected orbit of MUSES-B, it is not possible to make firm plans for Yohkoh's week 07 passes. The initial plan is to make a long OP stretching from pass 3 tonight until the end of pass 6 (sic) on Thursday. We will make provisions for Yohkoh uplinks in all six passes for that day, as well as for some passes on Tuesday and Wednesday if possible. Last weeks tohbans and Watanabe san will assist the new tohbans in making this special OP. In association with this there will be a large number of DSN real-time cancelations made. (We have to be sure to inform DSN of the reason for this large number of changes.) If the MUSES-B launch and initial in-orbit adjustments go as scheduled, we should receive from MUSES-B a new conflicts schedule by 18-hours JST on Wednesday (12 Feb). Keep in close contact with Watanabe-san about the new scheduling. 8.4 Sirius Data Nothing to report. 9. Action Items 9.1 Week-42-A/I-1 /Hudson, Lemen, Yoshida/ status: DEFERRED UNTIL JIM'S VISIT T. Yoshida has produced preliminary software to aid in optimizing the Yohkoh DP rate in OPs. The final implementation of Yoshida san's software will probably have to await the next visit to ISAS by Jim Lemen. 9.2 Week-06-A/I-1 /Sterling, Lemen/ status: OPEN Tohban manual and checksheet to be updated to reflect new DSN procedures for final and real-time schedule cancelations. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Appendix 1: Note about pass cancelations from DSN. Burns: Ms. Seko has passed along your note to us, the Yohkoh Duty Scientists. It was a mistake on our part to have not properly notified you about the last-minute pass cancelations, and to have not made certain that you acknowledged them. We are sorry for inconveniences that resulted, and will work to modify our procedures here. Sincerely, Yohkoh Duty Scientist (Alphonse Sterling)
