SSOC Tohban Report for Week 17 (21 April - 27 April 1997) SSOC : Te.Watanabe, M.Shimojo, and S.Kubo (T.Sakao) KSC : S. Tanuma and K. Nakakubo 0. Meeting Attendance: Alexander, Culhane, Hashizume, Hudson, Kosugi, Kubo, Sakao, Sawa, Shimizu, Sterling, Watanabe 1. Solar Activity: Solar activity was again quite low last week. There were a couple of small active regions on the disk, none of which showed significant activity. Soft X-rays from the sun kept below GOES A-level most of the time while the GOES level occasionally increased towards, but still below, B-level. It might be possible that some more-active regions would appear on the solar disk this week. 2. DSN Communications: 4.1 DSN Final schedule for W17 : None. 4.2 DSN Final schedule for W18 : 6 passes were canceled by SSOC. The final schedule for W18 was partly changed by JPL due to a 24-hour delay of the GOES-K launch. Fortunately there was no impact on Yohkoh DSN schedule due to this change. 4.3 DSN Preliminary schedule for W19: 6 passes were canceled by SSOC. 4.4 DSN Strawman schedule for W20: We did not received DSN Strawman schedule for W20. Please cancell on Monday. 4.5 Data Transmission from DSN: (/home/flare1/yohkoh/dsn_corrupt/97_16) 101 17 0324 corrupted tape Requested 16 Apr. no response tape Requested 21 Apr. Closed/ same data @@@ #11047 - JPL E-mail(16-Apr) : No data due to DSN antenna problem. 4.7 New Wallops Antenna On Sat 26-Apr (DOY 116) DSN switched from two passes at Goldstone (DSS-17) to three passes at Wallops (DSS-80) due to launch support for GOES 10. The Wallops passes use a new antenna DSS-80. The program dsn_check.pro was modified to include this new antenna as well as the new Goldstone DSS-27 antenna. Watanabe-san arranged for the modification of the Gateway software to accommodate this new antenna. 5. YOHKOH/ASCA/AKEBONO/HALCA Pass Conflicts at KSC: 5.1 Canceled passes for W17 2 passes were canceled for HALCA. 1 pass were canceled for ASCA. 5.2 Canceled passes for W18 No conflict 6. Special Operations: None 7. Holiday Schedule: The next holiday will be 4-May-1997 (JST). 8. Hikitsugi Items: 8.1 Tohbans for W18 SSOC : H.Hudson & S.Hashizume KSC : K.Nakakubo & S.Kawashima 8.2 STT Timer setting The STT timer set is due on Monday (5-May-97). 8.3 Sirius Data Nothing to report. 8.4 Suggestion to DSN selection rule: mail from JPL I understand that you access RASM and choose the passes that are made available to you. We would like you to use the Wallops (WFF) passes as much as possible. In other words, if a pass from one of the DSN sites (Goldstone, Madrid or Canberra) can be substituted by a WFF pass, please use the WFF pass and delete the DSN pass, instead of vise versa. Please understand we are not asking you to give up any coverage but if the same coverage can be accomplished by using WFF instead of the DSN, we would like you to do so. (Albert Chang) 8.5 Changes in OP_FIRST_GUESS Lemen-san has made a modification of the op_first_guess to surpress Campaign obs. between the first and second passes of KSC on the next day. Now the version is 4.3 and it seems to be working well. Regarding other more important changes, please see the reports from week 10. 8.6 Change Password for Main Frame The password for main frame must be changed on 1-May-97. 9. Action Item Week-16-A/I-1 /Watanabe/ status: Defened Arrange for the modification of the Gateway software to accept the data from the new Wallops DSS-80 antenna. Watanabe-san asked Prof. Yamada for modification. 10. Other There was a power outage in the whole Sagamihara campus from 9am to 6pm on Sunday, 27 April. All Yohkoh workstations and PCs were properly shut down by SSOC tohbans, Hudson-san, Alexander-san, and Sterling-san prior to the power outage. They were recovered in Monday morning.
