SSOC Tohban Report for Week 19 (5 May - 11 May 1997) SSOC : K. Marubashi, (S. Watari 6,7), Y. Kato KSC : S. Kawashima, S. Morita 0. Meeting Attendance: T. Watanabe, H. Hudson, S. Savy, T. Shimizu, J. Kahn A. Sterling, S. Koide, K. Marubashi, Y. Kato, M. Sawa, 1. Solar Activity: Solar activity was low throughout W19 (till May 9). The largest flare was B4.3 flare around 0000 UT, May 5. No other flare above B2 level. 2. Standard Operation: 2.1 SXT Table Uploads: ------------------------------------------------------------ Pass ID Pass # Table ID ------------------------------------------------------------ Monday 970505-0001 2 970504 P2 ARS1 STD+LONG Tuesday 970506-0308 4 970505 P4 ARS1 DKCAL Wednesday 970507-0102 3 970506 P3 ARS1 STD+DIFF Thursday 970508-0103 3 970507 P3 ARS1 STD+LONG Friday 970509-0103 3 970508 P3 ARS1 STD+LONG ------------------------------------------------------------ 2.2 STT timer setting: The STT timer was set during pass 3 (970506-0205) on 06-May-97. The next timer set should be planned for 12-May-97 (Tuesday). 2.3 Offpointing for Terminators None. 3. Errors and Problems 3.1 BCS Errors and Problems: An error was found on pass 4, 11-May, and the BCS recovered on pass 5 by a BCS Recovery plan. 3.2 SXT Errors and Problems: None. 3.3 SSOC procedure: SSOC tohbans didn't e-mailed information for terminator schedules to SXT_CO. This was due to tohbans' misunderstanding of the SXT_CO's notion of no off-pointing throughout the week. SXT_CO needs terminator information for other purposes. SSOC must have sent it to SXT_CO. 3.4 E-mail trouble (IMPORTANT!) During this week no e-mail could reach JPL, because 'utsun.s.u-tokyo.ac.jp' (133.11.11.11) had been down. The Yohkoh WS manager cannot handle this problem. It seems that this situation had been lasting from sometime around 24-Apr (Kato/SSOC): Unusual! 3.5 Unexpected things with DSN Final Schedule printing On Thursday (8-May) we didn't get a print-out of Final schedule for W20 before we left the operation room. (We saw it on the system at JPL in the afternoon via RASM.) We tried to pull it via RASM, but the IDL program failed to make a file for printing because of Permission problem. Another funny thing is that the software created a print-out of final schedule for W19 in the evening of Friday (9-May), which still retains a DSN operation schedule we had cancelled earlier (The cancellation was confirmed via RASM). 3.6 KSC network problem on Sunday 11-May SINET and KSCLAN#2 went wrong on 11-May (Sunday). Because of this trouble KSC tohbans had to cancel the SXT table upload planned for Sunday (Problem with KSCLAN#2 prevents checking uploaded table). Fujitsu is now investigating this trouble. 4. DSN Communications: 4.1 DSN Final schedule for W19: Three passes had to be cancelled (REAL-TIME) for W19. 4.2 DSN Final schedule for W20: We cancelled 3 passes for W20 (2 REAL-TIME, 1 ftp and RASM). 4.3 DSN Preliminary schedule for W21: We cancelled 6 passes from W21 preliminary schedule. This request was sent by ftp and RASM only (no e-mail, see 3.4) 4.4 DSN Strawman schedule for W22: 45 passes were cancelled from the strawman for Week 22. (sent to JPL via ftp andd RASM only) 4.5 Data Transmission from DSN: (/home/flare1/yohkoh/dsn_corrupt/97_19) 107 17 0514 corrupted tape Requested 23 Apr. no response Requested 28 Apr. YOHKOH/ASCA/AKEBONO/HALCA Pass Conflicts at KSC: 5.1 Canceled passes for W19, W20 Week 19: 6 passes were cancelled for Akebono Week 20: 6 passes were cancelled for Akebono 5.2 There will be a long-term planning meeting with Nagase-sensei and the representatives of all four satellites on May 15. The topics will include a schedule for System maintenance. 6. Special Operations: None. 7. Holiday Schedule: The next holiday will be Sunday, May 18. 8. Hikitsugi Items: 8.1 Tohbans for W19 SSOC : Koide, Sterling KSC : Morita, Okubo 8.2 STT Timer setting Return to the standard Tuesday schedule. 8.3 Sirius Data Nothing to report. 8.4 Suggestion to DSN selection rule: mail from JPL I understand that you access RASM and choose the passes that are made available to you. We would like you to use the Wallops (WFF) passes as much as possible. In other words, if a pass from one of the DSN sites (Goldstone, Madrid or Canberra) can be substituted by a WFF pass, please use the WFF pass and delete the DSN pass, instead of vise versa. Please understand we are not asking you to give up any coverage but if the same coverage can be accomplished by using WFF instead of the DSN, we would like you to do so. (Albert Chang) 8.5 Santiago passes, week 21. This is left over from the week 18 tohbans, but can be handled by Seko_san and Hilton_san on Tuesday. 9. Action Items Week-16-A/I-1 /Watanabe/ status: Deferred Arrange for the modification of the Gateway software to accept the data from the new Wallops DSS-80 antenna. Watanabe-san asked Prof. Yamada for modification. Week-18-A/I-1 /kanji/ status: open What about OP file transfer confirmation? At about 21:30 Friday evening, Kii-san of HALCA reported informally that the OP file transmission had failed. i) SSOC tohbans have been told that they do not need to check the console printer for file transmission any longer. In fact, Kii-san reported that the printer was down anyway. ii) Without firm knowledge that the OP for the next day has been properly transmitted, Yohkoh may go into night mode. iii) MUSES-B may be adding a new factor to this situation. The OP transmission from Friday worked OK, but on Saturday the ASCA tohban reported that the SXT file transfer for Monday had failed. The problem may or may not be found and discovered before the upload time (09:05 JST). This is pass #2, at which time the OP would stop also. Hara_san converted the OP into raw hex listing for KSC to enter in case of a continued problem, but the problem was resolved on Sunday and the SSOC tohbans were able to complete the file transfers.
