------------------------------------------------------------ SSOC Tohban Report for Week 25 (16 Jun - 23 Jun 1997) ------------------------------------------------------------ SSOC : Takano, Weber KSC : Watanabe(H), Imai 0. Meeting Attendance: Culhane, Hara, Hudson, Khan, Kosugi, Miyazaki, Ogawara, Savy, Sawa, Slater, Watanabe(T), Weber, Yoshimura (in Alphabetical order) 1. Solar Activity: The solar activity was quiet (no flare greater than B1) throughout this week. 2. Standard Operation: 2.1 SXT Table Uploads: ------------------------------------------------------------ Pass ID Pass # Table ID ------------------------------------------------------------ Monday 970616- 2 970612 P2 ARS1 STD+LONG Tuesday 970617- 4 970617 P4 ARS1 DARKCAL Wednesday 970618- 2 970618 P2 ARS1 STD+LONG 970618- 4 970618 P4 ARS1 STD+LONG Thursday 970619- 2 970619 P2 ARS1 STD+LONG Friday 970620- 2 970620 P2 ARS1 STD+LONG Saturday 970621- 2 970621 P2 ARS1 STD ------------------------------------------------------------ 2.2 STT timer setting: The STT timer was set during Pass 4 (970616-0517) on 16-Jun-97. (See also Section 3.7.) The next timer setting is planned for Pass 3 (970623-0308) on 23-Jun-97 (Monday). 2.3 Offpointing for Terminators None 2.4 HXT, BCS, and WBS calibrations None 2.5 Re-Definition of Normal Pointing The normal pointing OG (#32 dec) was re-defined on 18-Jun according to a request from Hudson san; he reported afterwards that the re-pointing was performed successfully according to his requirements. The pointing was moved east by approximately 17.5 arcsec. 2.6 OP Table Moved to Avoid Typhoon On 19-Jun (Thursday), it appeared possible to the tohbans that the typhoon might pass close enough to Kagoshima to affect the Friday morning passes. The Friday Pass 1 OP was moved to Thursday Pass 4. 3. Errors and Problems 3.1 BCS Errors and Problems: There was a single BCS error on 21-Jun (Sat) Pass 2. This was recovered in the same pass. 3.2 SXT Errors and Problems: None 3.3 Failed File Transfer from DSN. None (but see Section 3.4) 3.4 Flare20 / KRASM Hung Session. On 20-Jun (Friday), a KRASM session was initiated to JPL to file a request for cancellations to the Preliminary Schedule (W27). The SSOC tohbans entered the incorrect (of two) password. (It is possible that the password was misspelled, also.) The connection to JPL self-terminated, but the KRASM session became "frozen". The job had to be killed from another Flare session. Subsequent attempts to run KRASM became frozen on the first "at" command. Sterling san and Khan san recommended that Flare20 be rebooted. A request for a Flare20 reboot was sent to the Flare workstation managers, who complied with this request. KRASM ran normally after the reboot. At the WOM, an action item was taken to determine if the SSOC Tohbans may reboot Flare20, or if the process should be reserved to the Flare Workstation Managers. Whichever procedure is determined upon should be included in the English Tohban Manual. 3.5 KSC / SSOC Fax Time Delay On 20-Jun (Friday), a fax from the KSC tohbans to the SSOC tohbans was lost in transit. Fortunately, this loss did not impact operations, and the KSC tohbans re-sent the message successfully. 3.6 OP_FIRST_GUESS Error Message On 21-Jun (Saturday), the SSOC tohbans attempted to produce the OP table for Monday (i.e. to run from Monday Pass 1 through Tuesday Pass 2). They received the following error message after selecting the DSN and KSC passes: % Compiled module: OP_BDR_OPT. % OP_START_END: Problem with detection of LOS/AOS/DSN Repro events. IDL> When the time range for the OP table was extended for one KSC pass (i.e. Monday Pass 1 through Tuesday Pass 3), this error message was not encountered, and OP_FIRST_GUESS finished successfully. At the WOM, the SSOC Tohbans were asked to forward this incident to Jim Lemen san. 3.7 STT Timer: W25 Occultation During periods of complete occultation of Canopus, the Tohban Manual advises that the Start and Stop times be made 7000, 8000 s (resp.) in the appropriate hexadecimal form, to be inserted into the Command Sheet for the STT timer-set Pass. It does not appear that these timer commands were properly adjusted in the Command Sheet for the STT timer set on 970616-0517 (Monday Pass 4), although the accompanying FACOM hardcopy indicates a complete occultation. Kosugi san was notified. The attendees at the WOM reviewed the logic behind the necessity for the STT Timer Settings. It was resolved that the explanation in the English Tohban Manual regarding this task should be reviewed and probably updated. It was also discussed as to whether a schedule of upcoming "continuous occultation periods" (four per year) should be kept in the B-toh SSOC Operations Room. At approximately noon, Monday 23-June, Kosugi san reported that the STT appears to still be successfully tracking Canopus. 3.8 "Bounced" Email, Including Prelim and Straw Schedules The Yohkoh account on Flare1 received several notifications during Week 25 of email that had been returned. In two instances, the email was a copy of the Week 24 Tohban Report. The two most significant instances were regarding DSN Pass Cancellation Requests for the Preliminary (W27) and Strawman (W28) Schedules. In accordance with Tohban procedures, the requests to cancel DSN passes were sent via KRASM, ftp, and email. The instructions for the DSN email address are confusing. Tohban Manual (p.35): "mail -s 'PRELIMINARY Schedule Request' >>>>>> dsnsched@dsn.jpl.nasa.gov < solasf_del.w##" : ** E-Mail this file ==>>> ',fileout to dsn i.e., >>>>>> flare11% dsn < ',fileout ;(/ydb/orbit_raw/strawman_del.w##) Please keep "dsn" alias up to date in the .mailrc files on both flare1 and flare11 Flare1:~yohkoh/.mailrc: alias dsn ... alias dsn_cc ... alias dsn_asca ... The shell command suggested by the program did not appear to work, or even be recognized. The Email Requests for the Preliminary and Strawman Schedules were sent to the "dsn" alias and to "dsnsched@dsn.jpl.nasa.gov". We received email notices that these messages were not received, but it is not apparent which addresses are the problem. It should be checked as to whether JPL properly received the Pass Cancellation Requests by email. It was recommended that the most up-to-date procedure to follow is that in the Tohban Manual, i.e. mail to dsnsched@dsn.jpl.nasa.gov . 3.9 Account On 21-Jun (Saturday), the SSOC Tohbans tried to submit a notice to the account that they had written updates and questions in the English Tohban Manual. A little while later they received an automatic email message that that user did not exist. Weber (SSOC tohban W25) volunteered to notify Sterling san. 4. DSN Communications: 4.1 DSN Final (Real-Time) schedule for W25: We cancelled 0 passes for Real-Time W25. 4.2 DSN Final schedule for W26: We cancelled 0 passes for Final W26. 4.3 DSN Preliminary Schedule for W27: We cancelled 13 passes for Preliminary W27. 4.4 DSN Strawman schedule for W28: We cancelled 46 passes for Strawman W28. 4.5 Data Transmission from DSN: (/home/flare1/yohkoh/dsn_corrupt/97_25) 159 76 2209 not received Requested 12 Jun. Closed / correct data 166 17 0316 blocks differ with FAX Requested 20 Jun. 169 66 1515 blocks differ with FAX Requested 20 Jun. COMMENTS: #12015- JPL e-mail (20-Jun):No data recovered due to metrum problem. 5. YOHKOH/ASCA/AKEBONO/HALCA Pass Conflicts at KSC: 5.1 Canceled passes for W25, W26 Week 25: Two passes were cancelled for HALCA Week 26: One pass was cancelled for HALCA 6. Special Operations: None. 7. Holiday Schedule: The next holiday will be Sunday, June 29. There will also be a holiday on Monday, June 30 due to maintenance of the ground-based facilities at Kagoshima on that day. 8. Hikitsugi Items: 8.1 Tohbans for W26 SSOC : Yoshimura, Miyazaki KSC : Imai, Ueno 8.2 OP and Command Sheet Status The command sheets and OP for Monday (23-JUN UT) have been sent to KSC. The OP has also been transferred to KSC. It is, however, still necessary to check . 8.3 STT Timer setting Since there will be operation holidays at KSC on 29,30-Jun (upcoming Sunday and Monday), the STT Timer setting should be done on 27-Jun or 28-Jun (Friday or Saturday). The next setting after that should be done on 1-July (Tuesday). 8.4 New Manual and Checksheet Versions A new version of the English Tohban Manual is now out. Future tohbans (beginning with this week's) should write corrections and updates directly in the manual, and inform A. Sterling of the changes. Jim Lemen has made a new version of the checksheet to correspond to the new manual. Changes to the checksheet should be marked on the checksheet and reported to A. Sterling. 8.5 Sirius Data Nothing to report. 8.6 Suggestion to DSN selection rule: mail from JPL I understand that you access RASM and choose the passes that are made available to you. We would like you to use the Wallops (WFF) passes as much as possible. In other words, if a pass from one of the DSN sites (Goldstone, Madrid or Canberra) can be substituted by a WFF pass, please use the WFF pass and delete the DSN pass, instead of vise versa. Please understand we are not asking you to give up any coverage but if the same coverage can be accomplished by using WFF instead of the DSN, we would like you to do so. (Albert Chang) 8.7 KRASM Password The Yohkoh KRASM password is scheduled to change on 23-Jun-97 (Monday). 8.8 KSC / SSOC Fax Delay In Week 25, there a fax transmitted from KSC to SSOC was lost in transit. Tohbans are reminded to contact each other by phone (in addition to fax) if it is important that communication be prompt. 9. Action Items None. End of Report
