Errors and Problems 3.1 BCS Errors and Problems: No problems this week. 3.2 SXT Errors and Problems: No problems this week. 3.3 OP and OG Transmit Problem: SSOC forgot to send the OP for Monday morning (11-Aug), causing a loss of operations at Pass #1. 3.4 DSN Schedule File Transmission Problem: No problems this week. 4. DSN Communications: 4.1 DSN Final schedule for W32: We canceled 1 pass (Wallops elevation 6.1 degrees). This cancellation was performed incorrectly (wrong pass faxed to DSN), but the error was discovered and fixed via a phone call to DSN real-time operations. 4.2 DSN Final schedule for W33: We canceled 1 pass (DOY 228 2124; Goldstone too soon after KSC). 4.3 DSN Preliminary Schedule for W34: 4.4 DSN Strawman schedule for W35: We canceled 55 passes. 4.6 Data Transmission from DSN: (/home/flare1/yohkoh/dsn_corrupt/97_32) 202 76 0112 corrupted tape Requested 25 Jul. no response Requested 01 Aug. Special Operations: A typhoon approached KSC on Thursday. There were confused operations on Friday, with two BDR dumps missed because of SSOC errors. The details were the following. KSC requested no operations on Friday because of the typhoon, but then found that in fact most of the passes could be used. Pass 1 data were lost because no command sheets had been prepared. Pass 2 data were lost because the command sheets neglected to put Yohkoh into Manual Flare High mode. Tohbans, please be careful always to prepare operations correctly. If a pass cancellation happens, that will usually be decided only at the last minute, so that operations plans should be available in plenty of time. 7. Holiday Schedule: 10-Aug was a operation's holiday. The next holiday will be 17-Aug. 8. Hikitsugi Items: 8.1 Tohbans for W33 SSOC : K. Akita, Y. Kozuka KSC : N. Saita, S. Nagata 8.2 OP and Command Sheet Status The command sheets and OP for Monday (4-Aug-97) have been sent to KSC. The OP has also been transferred to KSC. 8.3 STT Timer setting The next STT Timer setting should be executed in pass 2 on 5-Aug-97. 8.4 New Manual and Checksheet Versions ----Quoted from the previous week report ---------------------------------- A new version of the English Tohban Manual is now out. Future tohbans should write corrections and updates directly in the manual, and inform A. Sterling of the changes. Jim Lemen has made a new version of the checksheet to correspond to the new manual. Changes to the checksheet should be marked on the checksheet and reported to A. Sterling. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8.5 Sirius Data Nothing to report. 8.6 Suggestion to DSN selection rule: mail from JPL ----Quoted from the previous week report ---------------------------------- I understand that you access RASM and choose the passes that are made available to you. We would like you to use the Wallops (WFF) passes as much as possible. In other words, if a pass from one of the DSN sites (Goldstone, Madrid or Canberra) can be substituted by a WFF pass, please use the WFF pass and delete the DSN pass, instead of vice versa. Please understand we are not asking you to give up any coverage but if the same coverage can be accomplished by using WFF instead of the DSN, we would like you to do so. (Albert Chang) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8.7 New Email address for DSN cancellations : part of mail from Arthur E Andujo ----Quoted from the previous week report ---------------------------------- .... could you change the address you use to send the weekly deletes for SOLAR-A, FROM: dsnsched@dsn.jpl.nasa.gov dsnsched@lilypad.jpl.nasa.gov AND BEGIN USING: DSNSched@jpl.nasa.gov ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ This would facilitate a quicker and more efficient delivery of messages. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8.8 Software development During Week 32, tohban T. Sakurai developed a very useful new version of OPOGEDT, which allows print files to go to the workstation printer upon running the IDL program PRINT_OP. The new version of OPOGEDT is now called OPOGNEW. IDL> print_op IDL> print_ogall IDL> print_ogsel This should become the standard version after its bugs are worked out. The tohbans for Week 33 should use the new version and report bugs to Sakurai and Hudson. Each use of PRINT_OP will archive the final version of the OP for workstation access, currently in ~yohkoh/opog. There are two programs for the OG printing, PRINT_OGALL and PRINT_OGSEL, depending upon whether the whole OG list is to be printed, or just one entry. This development work will save future tohbans a lot of running back and forth, and save trees from being cut down too. More contributions such as this would be most welcome: (i) Workstation software to check the STT function. (TBD) (ii) Workstation software to generate the STT hex commands. (TOO HARD!) (iii) Workstation software to generate hex commands for offpoints (HSH volunteers for this). (iv) Workstation software to monitor the efficiency of BDR use (ie, how much overwrite, how much empty space in actual fact). (NOT CRITICAL FOR OPERATIONS) (?) Anything that saves tohbans time and improves the reliability of their work would be greatly appreciated. 9. Action Items
