Akita, Y. Kozuka KSC : N. Saita, S. Nagata 0. Meeting attendance ( in alphabetical order): H. Hara, T. Kozuka, N. Nitta, M. Sawa, T. Shimizu, J. Shin, A. Sterling 1. Solar Activity: Moderately acitve. A couple of C flares occurred early this week. At the end of the week, the GOES background decreased to sub B level as AR8069 disappeared behind the west limb. 2. Standard Operation: 2.1 SXT Table Uploads: The following SXT tables were uploaded last week. ------------------------------------------------------------ Pass ID Pass # Table ID ------------------------------------------------------------ Monday 970811-0308 3 970811 P3 ARS1 STD+LONG Tuesday 970812-0308 4 970811 P4 ARS1 DKCAL Wednesday 970813-0102 2 970812 P2 ARS1 STD+DIFF Thursday 970813-1547 2 970813 P2 ARS2 STD 970814-0206 4 970813 P4 ARS1 STD Friday 970814-1445 1 970814 P1 ARS2 STD 970815-0207 4 970814 P4 ARS1 STD Saturday 970816-0104 3 970815 P3 ARS1 STD ------------------------------------------------------------ 2.2 STT timer setting: In W33, the STT timer was set on Tuesday, 12-Aug. The next timer setting (Time Stop ) will be due on Tuesday, 19-Aug. 2.3 Offpointing for Terminators : None 2.4 HXT, BCS, and WBS calibrations : None 3. Errors and Problems 3.1 BCS Errors and Problems: There were two BCS errors during the week. One found during pass 970813-1444 and recovered during the next pass 970813-1547, another found and recovered during the next pass 970814-0103. 3.2 SXT Errors and Problems: No problems this week. 3.3 DSN Schedule File Transmission Problem: No problems this week. 4. DSN Communications: 4.1 DSN Final schedule for W33: No cancellations. 4.2 DSN Final schedule for W34: No cancellations. 4.3 DSN Preliminary Schedule for W35: We canceled 5 passes. 4.4 DSN Strawman schedule for W36: As Seko-san was taking holidays, this will be done in W34. 4.6 Data Transmission from DSN: (/home/flare1/yohkoh/dsn_corrupt/97_33) As Seko-san was taking holidays, no reports for this week. 4.7 Antenna Parameters for DSN stations In response to Hudson-san's request, JPL sent us DSN antenna mask parameters. Should be helpful for selecting low altitude DSN passes. 5.0 KSC Pass cancellation 5.1 YOHKOH/ASCA/AKEBONO/HALCA Pass Conflicts at KSC: Week 33: No confilicts for W34!! 5.2 Other None. 6. Special Operations: New OG#32 (normal pointing) was uplinked and excuted successfully during the pass 970816-0207. The new normal point was set 20" NE to the previous one. 7. Holiday Schedule: 17-Aug was a operation's holiday. The next holiday will be 24-Aug. 8. Hikitsugi Items: 8.1 Tohbans for W34 SSOC : N. Nitta, J. Shin KSC : S. Nagata, S. Masuda 8.2 OP and Command Sheet Status The command sheets and the OP-list for Monday (18-Aug-97) have been sent to KSC. The OP has also been transferred to KSC. 8.3 STT Timer setting The STT Timer should be stopped on 19-Aug-97 as Canopus will not be observable for a couple of days. It should be restarted, say, 22-Aug. Next tohbans should confirm the timing for the best results. Please do not forget to check if the STT is working ok as soon as it was restarted. 8.4 Strawman schedule for W36 See 4.4, sorry. 8.5 New Manual and Checksheet Versions ----Quoted from the previous week report ---------------------------------- A new version of the English Tohban Manual is now out. Future tohbans should write corrections and updates directly in the manual, and inform A. Sterling of the changes. Jim Lemen has made a new version of the checksheet to correspond to the new manual. Changes to the checksheet should be marked on the checksheet and reported to A. Sterling. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8.6 Sirius Data Nothing to report. 8.7 Suggestion to DSN selection rule: mail from JPL ----Quoted from the previous week report ---------------------------------- I understand that you access RASM and choose the passes that are made available to you. We would like you to use the Wallops (WFF) passes as much as possible. In other words, if a pass from one of the DSN sites (Goldstone, Madrid or Canberra) can be substituted by a WFF pass, please use the WFF pass and delete the DSN pass, instead of vice versa. Please understand we are not asking you to give up any coverage but if the same coverage can be accomplished by using WFF instead of the DSN, we would like you to do so. (Albert Chang) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8.8 Software development ( started from Week32 ) During Week 32, tohban T. Sakurai developed a very useful new version of OPOGEDT, which allows print files to go to the workstation printer upon running the IDL program PRINT_OP. The new version of OPOGEDT is now called OPOGNEW. IDL> print_op IDL> print_ogall IDL> print_ogsel This should become the standard version after its bugs are worked out. The tohbans for Week 34 should use the new version and report bugs to Sakurai and Hudson. Each use of PRINT_OP will archive the final version of the OP for workstation access, currently in ~yohkoh/opog. There are two programs for the OG printing, PRINT_OGALL and PRINT_OGSEL, depending upon whether the whole OG list is to be printed, or just one entry. This development work will save future tohbans a lot of running back and forth, and save trees from being cut down too. More contributions such as this would be most welcome: (i) Workstation software to check the STT function. (DONE?)* (ii) Workstation software to generate the STT hex commands. (TOO HARD!) (iii) Workstation software to generate hex commands for offpoints (HSH volunteers for this). (iv) Workstation software to monitor the efficiency of BDR use (ie, how much overwrite, how much empty space in actual fact). (NOT CRITICAL FOR OPERATIONS) (?) Anything that saves tohbans time and improves the reliability of their work would be greatly appreciated. * IDL > stt_plot (,'DD-MM-YY') This will plot a time variation of STT output signal level. If STT is working properly, the signal level should stay in between 400 and 800, and should vary only in the time period set by the timer. See sample plots in the tohban mannual. 9.
