DSN Communications: 4.1 DSN Schedule Passes are deleted by DSN and SSOC Tohbans as follows. ------------------------------------------------- DSN Schedule Week Deleted Passes ================================================= Final W51 no cancellation Final W52 no cancellation Preliminary W01 xx cancellations Strawman W02 --!!! ------------------------------------------------- !!!) The w02 strawman schedule includes no Wallops contacts and Canberra passes with very crude predictions having a few tens of minute difference to our prediction. These numbers of Canberra contact times are exactly the same as quoted in the Wallops list, which has been recently emailed and ftped as a test in the process of scheduling task transfer from JPL to Wallops. Tohbans did not make any cancellations for this possibly wrong scheduling and asked JPL to check the w02 schedule. They are waiting for reply. 4.5 Data Transmission from DSN: (/home/flare1/yohkoh/dsn_corrupt/97_51) 335 76 0849 corrupted tape Requested 09 Dec. KSC Pass Conflicts and Schedule 5.1 YOHKOH/ASCA/AKEBONO/HALCA Pass Conflicts at KSC: 6 passes are lost due to the Akebono conflict. 6. Hikitsugi Items 6.1 Requests from DSN Please remove Diem Tu from the distribution list and add Ben-Zion Bienstock. Note: Ben-Zion Bienstock seems to be lack of a good address (W48 tohbans). 6.2 Mainframe operation schedule between the end of this year and the beginning of next year It will go to auto-operation mode after 7:00 (JST) on 30 December 1997. It will start again at 11:00 (JST) on 4 January 1998. 6.3 Bug in op_first_guess SSOC tohbans should be aware of a bug in op_first_guess: "% OP_START_END: Problem with detection of LOS/AOS/DSN Repro Events" appears when we have close enough contacts (more than two downlinks in an orbit). We avoided the problem, when using op_first_guess, by responding to "Change any standard op_first_guess options?" by choosing yes, then in response to "Enter BDR optimization (1 or 2), by choosing 1. 6.4 Tohbans for W51 SSOC : Y.Kato and T.Kosugi KSC : S.Masuda and J.Sato 6.5 OP and Command Sheet Status The command sheets and the OP for Monday (22-Dec-97) have been created, checked, and transferred to KSC. 6.6 STT timer setting STT timer setting is due on 23th and 28th Dec, Tuesday and Sunday. 6.7 Holiday Schedule: The year end holiday starts Monday, Dec. 29. 6.8 New Versions of English Tohban Manual and Tohban Checksheet The English language versions of the YOHKOH tohban manual and the tohban check sheet were updated on Nov 17. Among the changes are additions of discussions about the stt_plot and print_op routines. The check sheet has also been updated to reflect the page numbers in the new version of the manual. As always, tohbans are requested to write changes and indicate corrections in the manual so that they can be input the next time the manual is updated. ----From W47 tohban reports------------------------------------------ In addition to the standard mainframe terminal, it is also possible to use the mainframe emulator on flare20 instead of the mainframe terminal for some situations: flare20% telnet mainf1 17 s88239 ex op(opognew) PF3 is {Esc}3 PF4 is {Esc}4 etc. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6.9 Sirius Data Nothing to report. 6.10 Suggestion to DSN selection rule: mail from JPL ----Quoted from the previous week's report ------------------------------- I understand that you access RASM and choose the passes that are made available to you. We would like you to use the Wallops (WFF) passes as much as possible. In other words, if a pass from one of the DSN sites (Goldstone, Madrid or Canberra) can be substituted by a WFF pass, please use the WFF pass and delete the DSN pass, instead of vice versa. Please understand we are not asking you to give up any coverage but if the same coverage can be accomplished by using WFF instead of the DSN, we would like you to do so. (Albert Chang) -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6.11 Status of Wallops handover (W48) Hudson exchanged e-mail with Rick Jones. We are still waiting for ftp access to the Wallops scheduling database. 7. Action Items (Same as last week's SSOC Report) 7.1 Further software development. Status CONTINUING. It would be greatly appreciated if the SSOC tohbans could recommend any software development that they think will save future tohbans time and which improves the reliability of their work. 7.2 Week-48-A/I-1 /Hudson/status AJAR. Hudson has fixed print_ogsel (Week 48). Upon editing the OG's, this command from IDL will print the edited OG item on the workstation printer in B-toh. PRINT_OGALL still does not work well. Hudson will fix it next. After the corrections are made, these procedures should be incorporated into the tohban manual. 7.3 e-mail communications We rely upon e-mail more and more. For operations-related e-mail, it's hereby suggested that we make it a rule to ACKNOWLEDGE the receipt of any such e-mail message. This applies particularly among SSOC, SXT_CO, KSC and SXT_ST. 7.4 Long Range Schedule Arrangement (W49) Since the launch of HARUKA, the KSC tracking facilities have been running in operation nearly twenty four hours a day. No time has been available yet for maintenance this year. NEC and MELCO are planning to reserve a pair of two-week periods for maintenance with both of these two-week intervals occurring before the end of March 1998. The work requires six consecutive hours each day. Candidate periods; 17-31 of January and 16-31 of March During these periods, we will perhaps ose one contact per day at KSC. Also, Planet-B will be launched next summer. In spite of the fact that Planet-B is a Japanese mission, it will be launched during summertime; its launch window starts July 4, 1998 for the mission to Mars. During the flight operation (lasting for the twenty six days before the launch window begins), the KSC 20-meter antenna system will be used. After the launch, Planet-B will be tracked by the USD 64- meter and the newly (to be) installed KSC 34-meter antenna. Tracking scheduling during the Planet-B flight operation interval will be negotiated among the five teams namely: AKEBONO, YOHKOH, ASCA, HALCA and Planet-B (in March, perhaps). Tetsuya WATANABE (NAOJ) 7.9 Off pointing (From SXT_CO: Weber san) If no off-pointing is planed in the current week (see SXT cheif observer's report), there is no need for SSOC tohbans to ask SXT_CO whether or not offpoint should be added to the every day's command sheet. -- end of report -----------------------------------------------------------
