SSOC Tohban's Report for Week 16 (13 Apr 1998 - 19 Apr 1998) SSOC : K. Shibata, S. Yashiro KSC : Y. Nakagawa, T. Shimizu 0. Meeting Attendance : Kosugi, Watanabe, Hara, Shimojo, Sawa, Yashiro, Nitta, Hudson, Sterling, Canfield, Ogawara, Akiyama 1. Solar Activity Solar activity was not so high, but was gradually increasing during last week. There were 5 C-class flares. New active region (NOAA8203) emerged around 14-Apr, and rapidly grew with C-class flares on 15-Apr. We also find some interesting active phenomena, such as a helical X-ray filament eruption around 04:30UT, 14-Apr on NE limb. (see http://www.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/SXTweekly.html) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Standard Operations 2.1 SXT Table Uploads The following SXT tables were uploaded last week. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Pass ID Pass Table ID ================================================================ 980413-0620 4 980413 P4 ARS1 STD 980414-0517 4 980414 P4 ARS1 DARKCAL 980415-0414 3 980415 P3 ARS1 DIFF 980416-0204 1 980416 P1 ARS2 STD 980416-0515 4 980416 P4 ARS1 STD 980418-0412 4 980418 P4 ARS1 ONE FLT ---------------------------------------------------------------- 2.2 STT timer setting STT timer was set at pass 3 (980414-0413) on 14 Apr (Tue). 2.3.1 HXT Calibration None 2.3.2 BCS Calibration None -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Errors and Problems 3.1 SXT Errors None 3.2 BCS Errors None 3.3 Orbital Elements transmission trouble. None 4. Special Operations There were no special operations week16. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. DSN Communications 5.0 RASM use discontinued NASA ground-station support activities has handed over from JPL to Wallops from mid week10. All the DSN related works should be done using routines under flare20/wallops. The new system uses e-mail and FTP instead of RASM. Temporal manual for the new system is in flare20 /wallops/README file. Please use this version and comment to Hudson san if it has errors. 5.1 DSN Schedule Passes were deleted by DSN and SSOC Tohbans as follows. ------------------------------------------------------------------- DSN Schedule Week Deleted Passes =================================================================== Final(RealTime) W16 5 passes canceled by SSOC Final W17 1 passes canceled by SSOC Preliminary W18 2 passes canceled by SSOC Strawman W19 63 passes canceled by SSOC ------------------------------------------------------------------- 5.2 Data Transmission from DSN 081 76 0519 corrupted tape Requested 01 Apr no response tape Requested 07 Apr no response tape Requested 14 Apr Closed/ correct data 087 66 2308 not received Requested 01 Apr no response Requested 07 Apr no response Requested 14 Apr no response Requested 17 Apr 094 76 2132 corrupted tape Requested 07 Apr no response tape Requested 14 Apr Closed/ correct data 096 76 0258 not received Requested 14 Apr no response Requested 17 Apr 097 76 2043 corrupted tape Requested 14 Apr Closed/ correct data 104 16 0145 corrupted tape Requested 17 Apr /home/flare1/yohkoh/dsn_corrupt/98_15 made by Ms. Seko-san --------------------------------------------------------------------- 6. KSC Pass Conflicts and Schedule In week 16, two passes were lost due to a conflict with HALCA. Two passes will be lost during week 17 due to a conflict with HALCA. --------------------------------------------------------------------- 7. Hikitsugi Items 7.1 Tohbans for week 17 (Apr 20-26) SSOC : Canfield, Akiyama KSC : Shimizu(-21), UeNo 7.2 OP and Command Sheets The OP and Command Sheet for Monday (20 Apr) have been created, checked, and transferred to KSC by tobans of week 16. Note: 1) Never forget to send a FAX of a DSN schedule to KSC whenever it is changed. 2) If OP is made for a pass more than two times, add a comment on the reviced OP sheet (e.g., VER 2, REV B, and so on). 7.3 STT timer setting STT timer setting is due on 21 April, Tuesday. 7.4 Holiday Schedule The next holiday will be on 26 April, Sunday. ===================================================================== || The following is the same as the previous week's report. || ===================================================================== 7.5 DSN scheduling Since 1998, Wallops schedules DSN passes, instead of JPL. The system to communicate with Wallops is still under construction. For details, see README in the subdirectory "wallops" in flare20. All DSN-related software should be run from an IDL session in this directory. 7.6 Bug in op_first_guess SSOC tohbans should be aware of a bug in op_first_guess, e.g., "% OP_START_END: Problem with detection of LOS/AOS/DSN Repro Events". If DSN-related software in the directory ~yohkoh/wallops does not work correctry, for example, see 7dayss.wNN file (which you have obtained through ftp) whether it is written in a manner which is rather different from usual one. 7.7 BDR trouble (See 'DP error' in "SSOC Tohban's Report for Week 02" in 1998.) A DP error (error code = 90 ->75) was found during the data dump at 980106-0411. 2 of 20 BDR blocks are not accessible. As a result, the capacity of BDR is at the moment nine tenth of the normal capacity. This error has not been recovered yet. Please note the special commands, RST BAD BANK & DP DC EXEC, now routinely appearing in the end of command sheets. This is part of the recovery attempt. 7.8 E-mail communications We rely upon e-mail more and more. For operations-related e-mail, it's hereby suggested that we make it a rule to ACKNOWLEDGE the receipt of any such e-mail message. This applies particularly among SSOC, SXT_CO, KSC and SXT_ST. 7.9 Long Range Schedule Arrangement for Planet-B Planet-B will be launched on July 4, 1998 for the mission to Mars. During the flight operation (lasting for twenty six days before the launch window begins), the KSC 20-meter antenna system will be used. After the launch, Planet-B will be tracked by the USD 64m and the newly (to be) installed KSC 34m antenna. Tracking schedule during the flight operation interval will be negotiated among the five teams namely: AKEBONO, YOHKOH, ASCA, HALCA and Planet-B. (Tetsuya WATANABE,NAOJ) * For more information, see a filed report (written in Japanese). 7.10 New database (W10-1998) R. Bentley and S. Freeland have apparently finished installing a new and very convenient database in the Yohkoh system. It is "orb" and one gets orbit data from it via IDL> rd_orb, t1, t2, orb IDL> utplot,orb,orb.height,/ynoz ; for example (/ys/gen/idl/ref_access/rd_orb.pro) Now at last we know where the satellite was at all times! (Hudson) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 8. Action Items (Same as last week's SSOC Report) 8.1 Further software development. Status CONTINUING. It would be greatly appreciated if the SSOC tohbans could recommend any software development that they think will save future tohbans time and which improves the reliability of their work. 8.2 Week-48-A/I-1 /Hudson/status AJAR. Hudson has fixed print_ogsel (Week 48, 1997). Upon editing the OG's, this command from IDL will print the edited OG item on the workstation printer in B-toh. PRINT_OGALL still does not work well. Hudson will fix it next. After the corrections are made, these procedures should be incorporated into the tohban manual. 8.3 Week-10-A/I-1 /Hudson, Lemen/status OPEN DSN_CONFLICT does not work with the new Wallops files. It needs fixing before the next conflict season starts (perhaps in May?). 8.4 Week-16-A/I-1 /Hudson, Ogawara/status OPEN Hudson asks for the link margin of the Wallops station, which fixes the minimum maximum elevation of Yohkoh contacts. Ogawara provides info on the Yohkoh transmitters, if necessary. === END ===
