SSOC Tohban's Report for Week 19 (04 May 1998 - 10 May 1998) SSOC : K. Marubashi, H. Watanabe KSC : K. Fujiki, H. Tonooka 0. Meeting Attendance : Ogawara, Kosugi, Sterling, Watanabe_Te, Hara, Slater, Shirts, Sawa, Hudson, McKenzie, Khan, Miyagoshi, Watanabe_H ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Solar Activity This week was exciting, because of the high level of solar activity: at least one X flare and seven M flares. Several were associated with CMEs, and some of these CMEs were Earth-directed. The GOES background level remained above 'C' for three days. (see http://www.solar.isas.ac.jp/sxt_co/SXTweekly.html) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Standard Operations 2.1 SXT Table Uploads The following SXT tables were uploaded last week. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Pass ID Pass Table ID ================================================================ 980503-1446 4 980503 P4 ARS1 STD 980504-1136 1 980504 P1 ARS0 XBP JOP 980504-1447 4 980504 P4 ARS1 STD+XBP 980505-1133 1 980505 P1 ARS0 XBP JOP 980505-1340 3 980505 P3 ARS1 STD+XBP 980506-1134 1 980506 P1 ARS0 XBP JOP 980506-1444 4 980506 P4 ARS2 DARK+JOP 980507-1031 1 980507 P1 ARS0 JOP059 980507-1135 2 980507 P2 ARS2 STD+J59 980509-1032 1 980509 P1 ARS0 JOP059 980509-1239 3 980509 P3 ARS2 STD+DIFF ---------------------------------------------------------------- * We could not make two table uploads scheduled on 08-May because of a network trouble (see 3.5). 2.2 STT timer setting STT timer was set at pass 2 (980504-1240) on 05-May (Tue). 2.3.1 HXT Calibration None 2.3.2 BCS Calibration BCS Source Calibration was made around 1830 UT on 07-May-98 through OP (980507-1031 OP VER2). BCS Stim Calibration was executed on 980508-1342 (Pass 4). -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Errors and Problems 3.1 SXT Errors Two SXT bitmap errors were found: 05-May pass4 (980504-1447), recovered in the same pass by Yobi-C. 08-MAY pass3 (980507-1238), recovered in the same pass by Yobi-C. 3.2 BCS Errors None 3.3 Orbital Elements transmission trouble. None 3.4 Mainframe computer at Sagamihara during holidays: It wasn't turned on by the time of KSC operation of Monday morning (04-May), simply due to a mistake in making Mainframe operation schedule. An SXT table was uploaded on pass 980503-1446 while the Mainframe computer was being off. The SXT table record in the Mainframe was modified later by Hara_san, so that the next SXT table upload could be done through the normal procedure. 3.5 Network connection trouble between KSC and SSOC KSC tohbans found a possible network problem with the FMV computer just before operation of Friday (08-May) night. It prevented them from checking SXT tables, so that they stopped SXT table uploads having been scheduled on Passes 1 and 2. The trouble was investigated by eigen_san(Fujitsu), and fixed before Saturday night operation. SXT tables on Saturday night were uploaded with nornal procedure. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Special Operations 4.1 DP Error Flag Reset Two DP error flags which are related to an incorrect BC (block command) executed on the pass 980212-0928 were reset during pass 3, 06-May (980506-1341). ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. DSN Communications 5.0 RASM use discontinued NASA ground-station support activities has handed over from JPL to Wallops from mid week10. All the DSN related works should be done using routines under flare20/wallops. The new system uses e-mail and FTP instead of RASM. Temporal manual for the new system is in flare20/wallops/README file. Please use this version and comment to Hudson san if it has errors. 5.1 DSN Schedule Passes were deleted by DSN and SSOC Tohbans as follows. ------------------------------------------------------------------- DSN Schedule Week Deleted Passes =================================================================== Final W20 15 passes deleted by SSOC(**) Preliminary W21 0 passes deleteled, and 4 passes added by SSOC(*) Strawman W22 65 passes deleted by SSOC(**) ------------------------------------------------------------------- (*) 4 passes addition was requested, but not confirmed yet. KSC Pass Conflicts and Schedule In week 19, 6 passes were lost due to a conflict with HALCA. 8 passes will be lost during week 20, 5 due to a conflict with HALCA, and 3 with Akebono. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 7. Hikitsugi Items 7.1 Tohbans for week 20 (11 May - 17 May) SSOC : Miyagoshi, Sterling KSC : Tonooka, Sasaki 7.2 OP and Command Sheets The OP and Command Sheet for Monday (11-May) have been sent to KSC, but not checked by KSC tohbans yet. Note: 1) Never forget to send the OP after approved by KSC Tohbans. 2) If OP is made for a pass more than two times, add a comment on the revised OP sheet (e.g., VER 2, REV B, and so on). 7.3 Cancelations of the Final(w20)/Strawman(w22) Schedule The final(w20) and Strawman(w22) cancelation requests were made on Saturday morning of last week, but their revised versions are not yet received from DSN on this Monday morning(JST). It is necessary to confirm the arrival of the deletions by new SSOC tohbans. 7.3 STT timer setting STT timer setting is due on 12-May, Tuesday. 7.4 Holiday Schedule The next holiday will be on 17-May, Sunday (JST) 7.5 BFM SSOC tohbans need to fax a newly-scheduled Visible Diagram to Mr. Sugiyama (FAX: 045-939-2789). This is for planning a operation for recovering STT in or after Week 21 as described below. BFM was turned on at the pass 980424-0102 for the first time since Oct-1995 and its contents were successfully checked. It turned out that STT has been suffering from a two-bit-error in its program area since 26-Nov-1996 6:52UT after an SAA passage. The STT program installation is being considered for recovering the error. BFM is actually a triply-redundant system that takes the majority of three data sets. The memory comparison resulted in no non-compares (no errors) on Friday, though one of three set the flag for a non-compare of data of a certain byte. 7.6 HXT Calibration Plan Please note that HXT Calibration will be requested by Sawa-san (NRO) from the begining of this week (w20) operation. 7.7 ISAS Phone Number From 18-May (Mon.) and on, new phone numbers will be in operation in association with installation of dial-in system in ISAS. Some of new phone numbers (extensions) are listed below. (Form outside, dial 0427-59-XXXX (extension number). ) B-toh/SSOC: 8398, D-toh/Yohkoh: 8146 (large room), 8147 (small) Prof. Ogawara: 8132, Prof. Nagase: 8351 FAX PHONE D-toh/Yohkoh: 59-8466 & 59-8469 ===================================================================== || The following is the same as the previous week's report. || ===================================================================== 7.8 DSN scheduling Since 1998, Wallops schedules DSN passes, instead of JPL. The system to communicate with Wallops is still under construction. For details, see README in the subdirectory "wallops" in flare20. All DSN-related software should be run from an IDL session in this directory. 7.9 Bug in op_first_guess SSOC tohbans should be aware of a bug in op_first_guess, e.g., "% OP_START_END: Problem with detection of LOS/AOS/DSN Repro Events". If DSN-related software in the directory ~yohkoh/wallops does not work correctly, for example, see 7dayss.wNN file (which you have obtained through ftp) whether it is written in a manner which is rather different from usual one. 7.10 BDR trouble (See 'DP error' in "SSOC Tohban's Report for Week 02" in 1998.) A DP error (error code = 90 ->75) was found during the data dump at 980106-0411. 2 of 20 BDR blocks are not accessible. As a result, the capacity of BDR is at the moment nine tenth of the normal capacity. This error has not been recovered yet. Please note the special commands, RST BAD BANK & DP DC EXEC, now routinely appearing in the end of command sheets. This is part of the recovery attempt. 7.11 E-mail communications We rely upon e-mail more and more. For operations-related e-mail, it's hereby suggested that we make it a rule to ACKNOWLEDGE the receipt of any such e-mail message. This applies particularly among SSOC, SXT_CO, KSC and SXT_ST. 7.12 Long Range Schedule Arrangement for Planet-B Planet-B will be launched on July 4, 1998 for the mission to Mars. During the flight operation (lasting for twenty six days before the launch window begins), the KSC 20-meter antenna system will be used. After the launch, Planet-B will be tracked by the USD 64m and the newly (to be) installed KSC 34m antenna. Tracking schedule during the flight operation interval will be negotiated among the five teams namely: AKEBONO, YOHKOH, ASCA, HALCA and Planet-B. (Tetsuya WATANABE,NAOJ) * For more information, see a filed report (written in Japanese). 7.13 New database (W10-1998) R. Bentley and S. Freeland have apparently finished installing a new and very convenient database in the Yohkoh system. It is "orb" and one gets orbit data from it via IDL> rd_orb, t1, t2, orb IDL> utplot,orb,orb.height,/ynoz ; for example (/ys/gen/idl/ref_access/rd_orb.pro) Now at last we know where the satellite was at all times! (Hudson) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 8. Action Items (Same as last week's SSOC Report) 8.1 Further software development. Status CONTINUING. It would be greatly appreciated if the SSOC tohbans could recommend any software development that they think will save future tohbans time and which improves the reliability of their work. 8.2 Week-48-A/I-1 /Hudson/status AJAR. Hudson has fixed print_ogsel (Week 48, 1997). Upon editing the OG's, this command from IDL will print the edited OG item on the workstation printer in B-toh. PRINT_OGALL still does not work well. Hudson will fix it next. After the corrections are made, these procedures should be incorporated into the tohban manual. 8.3 Week-10-A/I-1 /Hudson, Lemen/status OPEN DSN_CONFLICT does not work with the new Wallops files. It needs fixing before the next conflict season starts (perhaps in May?). 8.4 Week-16-A/I-1 /Hudson, Ogawara/status OPEN Hudson asks for the link margin of the Wallops station, which fixes the minimum maximum elevation of Yohkoh contacts. Ogawara provides info on the Yohkoh transmitters, if necessary. === END ===
