SSOC Tohban's Report for Week 21 (18 May 1998 - 24 May 1998) SSOC : Y. Liu, M. Shimojo KSC : H. Hara, D. Sasaki 0. Meeting Attendance : Ichimoto, Khan, Kosugi, Liu, Mckemzie, Miyashita, Sawa, Shimojo, Watanabe ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Solar Activity Solar activity was much reduced from the previous week, with the GOES level below C for most of the week. Some C-class flare occurred on May 19. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Standard Operations 2.1 SXT Table Uploads The following SXT tables were uploaded last week. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Pass ID Pass Table ID ================================================================ 980518-0712 1 980518 P1 ARS1 STD 980519-0928 3 980512 P3 ARS2 DARK SPECIAL 980520-0722 1 980520 P1 ARS0 JET 980520-1032 4 980520 P4 ARS2 STD+DIF 980520-1135 5 980520 P5 ARS2 STD+DIF 980521-0619 1 980521 P1 ARS0 JET 980521-0826 3 980521 P3 ARS1 STD 980522-0723 2 980522 P2 ARS1 STD 980523-0620 2 980523 P2 ARS1 STD ---------------------------------------------------------------- 2.2 STT timer setting STT timer was set at pass 2 (980519-0825) on 19-May (Tue). 2.3.1 HXT Calibration We re-adjusted HXT gain at Pass 2 on Monday (980518-0824). There were three HXT calibrations last week: 980518-0927 980518-1134 980519-1135 We succeed the fine adjustment of HXT. 2.3.2 BCS Calibration None -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Errors and Problems 3.1 BCS Errors None 3.2 SXT Errors One SXT bitmap errors were found: 20-May pass4 (980520-1032), recovered in the same pass by Yobi-C. 3.3 Late Final Schedule Arrival from Wallops. In last weekly operation meeting, SSOC thoban proposed following: From the report of SSOC tohbans of week 20: > Since the switch of DSN planning to Wallops, the final schedule for the > following week has been arriving on Friday morning instead of Thursday > morning Japan time. This is inconvenient for the tohbans, as it means > that the weekend OP often cannot be generated until Friday, which is > already a busy day with other DSN planning activities. If Wallops could > prepare the Final Schedule on their Wednesday evening instead of their > Thursday morning (as they currently do), we would be able to get the > schedule here in Japan on our Thursday morning. We asked Debbie Dukes > at Wallops if this would be possible. Her response (on May 15) was the > following: > > It is no problem for us to publish our schedule for Astro and > Solar on Wednesday evening. However, we do not have JPL (DSN) > input until our Thursday morning and I understand there is many > changes in their schedule between their forecast and operations > week. Maybe an hour or two is all we could save due to procedures > at JPL. I am really on vacation today and next week and just in > for a test, but I will talk to JPL and see if anything can be > done. Meanwhile we will get the schedule to you as soon as > possible. > > Thus this issue is still pending. But it is an important item and > should be followed up in the coming weeks. In this week, A final schedule of week 22 came on friday morning. 3.4 A mysterious-pass in strawman schedule of week 24. Seko san make AOSLOSGD and checked passes of strawman schedule on friday. She found a mysterious-pass (11-Jun-98 08:55UT) in strawman schedule of week 24. The strawman schedule of week 24 included this pass, but we can not found this pass in AOSLOSGD. We think that there is two possibility. One is that wallops people made a mistake. Other is that the program which make the AOSLOSGD have some bugs. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Special Operations 4.1 Normal Pointing Adjustment. Hugh Hudson implemented a repointing of the spacecraft during pass 1 on 19-May-98 (980519-0721). ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. DSN Communications 5.1 DSN Schedule Passes were deleted by DSN and SSOC Tohbans as follows. ------------------------------------------------------------------- DSN Schedule Week Deleted Passes =================================================================== Final W21 1 passe deleted by SSOC Final W22 13 passes deleted by SSOC Preliminary W23 8 passes deleted by SSOC Strawman W24 48 passes deleted by SSOC ------------------------------------------------------------------- 5.2 Data Transmission from DSN 128 66 0249 corrupted Requested 14 May Closed/ Correct data * 130 74 2208 corrupted tape Requested 19 May Closed/ Same data 133 76 0544 corrupted tape Requested 19 May Closed/ Correct data 134 66 2203 not received Requested 20 May ## * DOY-130 S74 2208(Email)--802 drops during the pass due to RF interference. DOY-139 S74 1805(Email)-- Only 4662 blocks were able to be reproduced from tape due to station equipment failure. /home/flare1/yohkoh/dsn_corrupt/98_20 made by Ms. Seko-san ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 6. KSC Pass Conflicts and Schedule In week 21, 6 passes were lost due to conflicts with AKEBONO. In week 22, there is no lost KSC pass, because AKEBONO operation will stop during this week. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 7. Hikitsugi Items 7.1 Tohbans for week 22 (25 May - 32 May) SSOC : Ichimoto, Miyashita KSC : Hara (-27), Kasahara 7.2 STT timer setting STT timer setting is due on 26-May, Tuesday. 7.3 Holiday Schedule The next holiday will be on 31-May, Sunday (JST) ===================================================================== || The following is the same as the previous week's report (except || || for some rewriting). || ===================================================================== 7.8 DSN scheduling Since mid week 10, 1998, Wallops schedules all DSN passes instead of JPL. The system to communicate with Wallops is still under construction. For details, see the temporary manual in the file ~wallops/README file on flare20. All DSN-related software should be run from an IDL session in the flare20/wallops subdirectory. Please immediately report any problems with the DSN software or errors in the manual to Hudson san. 7.9 Bug in op_first_guess SSOC tohbans should be aware of a bug in op_first_guess, e.g., "% OP_START_END: Problem with detection of LOS/AOS/DSN Repro Events". If DSN-related software in the directory ~yohkoh/wallops does not work correctly, check to see if the files being used which you have obtained through ftp from Wallops (e.g., 7dayss.wNN) are written in the same format as the previous weeks' files. 7.10 BDR trouble (See 'DP error' in "SSOC Tohban's Report for Week 02" in 1998.) A DP error (error code = 90 ->75) was found during the data dump at 980106-0411. 2 of 20 BDR blocks are not accessible. As a result, the capacity of BDR is at the moment nine-tenths that of the normal capacity. This error has not been recovered yet. Please note the special commands, RST BAD BANK DP DC EXEC now routinely appearing in the end of command sheets. This is part of the recovery attempt. 7.11 E-mail communications We rely upon e-mail more and more. For operations-related e-mail, it's hereby suggested that we make it a rule to ACKNOWLEDGE the receipt of any such e-mail message. This applies particularly among SSOC, SXT_CO, KSC and SXT_ST. 7.12 Long Range Schedule Arrangement for Planet-B Planet-B will be launched on July 4, 1998 for the mission to Mars. During the flight operation (lasting for twenty six days before the launch window begins), the KSC 20-meter antenna system will be used. After the launch, Planet-B will be tracked by the USD 64m and the newly (to be) installed KSC 34m antenna. Tracking schedule during the flight operation interval will be negotiated among the five teams namely: AKEBONO, YOHKOH, ASCA, HALCA and Planet-B. (Tetsuya WATANABE,NAOJ) * For more information, see a filed report (written in Japanese). 7.13 New database (W10-1998) R. Bentley and S. Freeland have apparently finished installing a new and very convenient database in the Yohkoh system. It is "orb" and one gets orbit data from it via IDL> rd_orb, t1, t2, orb IDL> utplot,orb,orb.height,/ynoz ; for example (/ys/gen/idl/ref_access/rd_orb.pro) Now at last we know where the satellite was at all times! (Hudson) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 8. Action Items (Same as last week's SSOC Report) 8.1 Further software development. Status CONTINUING. It would be greatly appreciated if the SSOC tohbans could recommend any software development that they think will save future tohbans time and which improves the reliability of their work. 8.2 Week-48-A/I-1 /Hudson/status AJAR. Hudson has fixed print_ogsel (Week 48, 1997). Upon editing the OG's, this command from IDL will print the edited OG item on the workstation printer in B-toh. PRINT_OGALL still does not work well. Hudson will fix it next. After the corrections are made, these procedures should be incorporated into the tohban manual. 8.3 Week-16-A/I-1 /Hudson, Ogawara/status OPEN Hudson asks for the link margin of the Wallops station, which fixes the minimum maximum elevation of Yohkoh contacts. Ogawara provides info on the Yohkoh transmitters, if necessary. === END ===
