SSOC Tohban's Report for Week 25 (15 June 1998 - 22 June 1998) SSOC : Y. Kato, S. Akiyama, H. Hudson KSC : J. Sato, M. Torii 0. Meeting Attendance : ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Solar Activity Not so bad, really. There were several large C or M flares, associated with quite interesting CMEs and spiky post-flare loop systems. The largest sunspot area was about 200 millionths. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Standard Operations 2.1 SXT Table Uploads The following SXT tables were uploaded last week. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Pass ID Pass Table ID ================================================================ 980614-1547 1 980614 P1 ARS2 HIDA 980614-1547 2 980614 P2 ARS1 DKCAL 980615-1341 1 980615 P1 ARS2 KPNO 980615-1445 2 980615 P2 ARS1 STD DIFF 980616-1342 1 980616 P2 ARS2 KPNO 980616-1445 2 980616 P2 ARS1 STD 980617-1239 1 980617 P1 ARS1 KPNO 980617-1342 2 980617 P2 ARS1 STD 980618-1443 2 980618 P2 ARS1 STD 980619-1444 2 980619 P2 ARS1 STD 980620-1341 1 980620 P1 ARS1 STD 980621-1238 1 980621 P1 ARS1 STD ---------------------------------------------------------------- 2.2 STT timer setting The STT timer set at pass 2 (980615-1445) on 16-June (Tue). 2.3.1 HXT Calibration None. 2.3.2 BCS Calibration None. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Errors and Problems 3.1 BCS Errors Pass 3, 19-Jun. Recovery on the same pass. 3.2 SXT Errors None. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Special Operations None. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. DSN Communications 5.1 DSN Schedule Passes were deleted by DSN and SSOC Tohbans as follows. ------------------------------------------------------------------- DSN Schedule Week Deleted Passes =================================================================== Final W25 1 pass deleted by SSOC Final W26 13 passes deleted by SSOC Final W26 1 pass deleted by Wallops Preliminary W27 2 passes deleted by SSOC Strawman W28 45 passes deleted by SSOC ------------------------------------------------------------------- 5.2 Data Transmission from DSN (Seko_san, yohkoh/dsn_corrupt) 152 74 1315 not received Requested 05 Jun no response Requested 10 Jun Closed/ No data 161 76 1929 corrupted tape Requested 12 Jun Closed/ Correct data 162 76 1804 corrupted tape Requested 16 Jun Closed/ Same data 165 76 1531 corrupted tape Requested 16 Jun Closed/ Same data 165 76 1206 corrupted tape Requested 18 Jun Closed/ Correct data 167 76 1606 corrupted tape Requested 18 Jun Closed/ Correct data 167 76 1750 corrupted tape Requested 18 Jun Closed/ Correct data 5.3 Pass elevation We have a plot of the horizon as viewed from the Wallops 7.3-meter dish, so we can consider passes below 10 degrees. The 05:40 pass at Wallops on 27-Jun shows a maximum elevation of 9.4 degrees, but the azimuth range (198 -> 102) is in a good region of the horizon, according to the graph. We therefore scheduled this pass. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 6. KSC Pass Conflicts and Schedule Week 25: 10 KSC passes lost due conflicts with Planet-B. Week 26: 6 KSC passes expected to be lost. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 7. Hikitsugi Items 7.0 Urgent items. The OP for Monday night (Tuesday morning JST), 22-Jun, has not been transferred to KSC. Week 26 tohbans, please confirm the DSN dumps and do this transfer. There are likely to be multiple SXT tables late at night this week. KSC tohbans, please be prepared to do the second table transfer from KSC. 7.1 Tohbans for week 26 (22 June - 29 June) SSOC : M. Akioka, T. Yamaguchi KSC : M. Torii, T. Magara 7.2 STT timer setting Should be done on schedule Tuesday, 23 June if possible. The Canopus tracking situation is good. 7.3 Holiday Schedule The holiday in week 26 will be on Tuesday, 23 June (JST). 7.4 DSN selection by the program FMT_WALLOPS The SSOC tohbans should check the ACTIVITY column of the 7dayss-list to make sure that the keyword TKG PASS is not omitted or replaced with another term. This happened last week. The FMT_WALLOPS program searches for TKG PASS and will eliminate passes without this keyword. According to Wallops they will not use other comments in the ACTIVITY columun. But the SSOC tohbans should check this for the next few weeks just to make sure. 7.5 Update on the Late Arrival of the Final Schedule from Wallops The final schedules for week 26 arrived on Thursday, as we had hoped. ===================================================================== || The following is the same as the previous week's report (except || || for some rewriting). || ===================================================================== 7.6 Pass Additions and Wallops Deletions At the meeting it was decided that for the Strawman schedule the SSOC tohbans should select the best DSN passes but, in addition, they should not delete any Wallops passes. After receiving the Preliminary schedule with JPL/DSN deletions, the unnecessary Wallops passes should be deleted. 7.7 DSN scheduling Since mid week 10, 1998, Wallops schedules all DSN passes instead of JPL. The system to communicate with Wallops is still under construction. For details, see the temporary manual in the file ~wallops/README file on flare20. All DSN-related software should be run from an IDL session in the flare20/wallops subdirectory. Please immediately report any problems with the DSN software or errors in the manual to Hudson san. (New week 25) Please retain all Wallops passes in the Strawman cancellation process. We have been informed by Wallops that this is OK. These passes are cancelled by NASA less frequently, so by doing this we avoid days with almost no coverage. 7.8 Bug in op_first_guess SSOC tohbans should be aware of a bug in op_first_guess, e.g., "% OP_START_END: Problem with detection of LOS/AOS/DSN Repro Events". If DSN-related software in the directory ~yohkoh/wallops does not work correctly, check to see if the files being used which you have obtained through ftp from Wallops (e.g., 7dayss.wNN) are written in the same format as the previous weeks' files. We experienced (week 25) some confusion about the timing of KSC AOS and the DAY OG. Please be careful. If there is an KSC-AOS NIGHT one step before the DAY OG, normally the two commands can simply be interchanged and the AOS command switched to DAY. 7.9 BDR trouble (See 'DP error' in "SSOC Tohban's Report for Week 02" in 1998.) A DP error (error code = 90 ->75) was found during the data dump at 980106-0411. 2 of 20 BDR blocks are not accessible. As a result, the capacity of BDR is at the moment nine-tenths that of the normal capacity. This error has not been recovered yet. Please note the special commands, RST BAD BANK DP DC EXEC now routinely appearing in the end of command sheets. This is part of the recovery attempt. 7.10 E-mail communications We rely upon e-mail more and more. For operations-related e-mail, it's hereby suggested that we make it a rule to ACKNOWLEDGE the receipt of any such e-mail message. This applies particularly among SSOC, SXT_CO, KSC and SXT_ST. 7.11 Long Range Schedule Arrangement for Planet-B Planet-B will be launched on July 4, 1998 for the mission to Mars. During the flight operation (lasting for twenty six days before the launch window begins), the KSC 20-meter antenna system will be used. After the launch, Planet-B will be tracked by the USD 64m and the newly (to be) installed KSC 34m antenna. Tracking schedule during the flight operation interval will be negotiated among the five teams namely: AKEBONO, YOHKOH, ASCA, HALCA and Planet-B. (Tetsuya WATANABE,NAOJ) * For more information, see a filed report (written in Japanese). ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 8. Action Items (Same as last week's SSOC Report) 8.1 Further software development. Status CONTINUING. It would be greatly appreciated if the SSOC tohbans could recommend any software development that they think will save future tohbans time and which improves the reliability of their work. 8.2 Week-48-A/I-1 /Hudson/status AJAR. PRINT_OGALL still does not work well. Hudson will fix it next. After the corrections are made, these procedures should be incorporated into the tohban manual.
