BCS Stim Calibration was executed on 980812-1548 (Pass 4). -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Errors and Problems 3.1 BCS Errors A BCS error was found in pass 980812-1238. It was recovered in the next pass (980812-1342). On 14-Aug-98 the BCS chief observer (Khan) noticed an `unflagged' error during pass 980814-0001. The MEM CHK SUM says OK, but the data in all the channels shows no data and the voltages are low (as for night) even though it is a daytime pass. A BCS Recovery was executed at pass 980814-1239, and Khan confirmed that BCS recovered its function. 3.2 SXT Errors A 'BIT MAP' error was found at pass 980810-1237, and was cleared by Yobi-C command successfully. A 'BIT MAP' error was found at pass 980812-1238, and was cleared by Yobi-C command successfully. 3.3 Unexpected deletion of Santiago contacts by op_first_guess In making the weekend OP, the SSOC tohban encountered a problem in which op_first_guess does not retain Santiago contacts although we did not specify deletion. Santiago passes have already been missing in the AOSLOS file; the reason is at this moment unknown. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Special Operations The Whole Sun Fortnight Campaign started, which will run from Aug 12 to 25 and will involve coordination with a number of ground-based observatories as well as the TRACE satellite. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. DSN Communications 5.1 DSN Schedule Passes were added/deleted as follows. ------------------------------------------------------------------- DSN Schedule Week Schedule Changes =================================================================== Final W34 10 passes deleted by SSOC 1 pass added by SSOC 5 passes deleted by DSN Preliminary W35 5 passes deleted by SSOC Strawman W36 88 passes deleted by SSOC ------------------------------------------------------------------- 5.2 Data Transmission from DSN (Refer to /home/flare1/yohkoh/dsn_corrupt/98_33) 208 76 1808 corrupted tape Requested 30 Jul corrupted tape Requested 31 Jul Closed/ Correct data (10-Aug) 212 76 2103 corrupted tape Requested 11 Aug Closed/ Same corrupted data (12-Aug) 213 76 1428 not received Requested 11 Aug Closed/ Correct data (12-Aug). 214 80 1954 corrupted tape Requested 11 Aug Closed/ Correct data (12-Aug) 217 76 1720 corrupted tape Requested 11 Aug Closed/ Correct data (12-Aug) 221 74 2024 corrupted tape Requested 14 Aug 222 66 0706 not received Requested 14 Aug 222 76 1340 corrupted tape Requested 14 Aug 222 76 1523 corrupted tape Requested 14 Aug 223 46 0625 not received Requested 14 Aug 224 76 1232 corrupted tape Requested 14 Aug ### DOY-216 w76 1702--(WPS Email)- 11M scheduled and tracked S/C. KSC Pass Conflicts and Schedule In week 34 we will lose 5 passes for Akebono and 1 pass for Halca. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 7. Hikitsugi Items 7.1 Tohbans for week 34 (17 - 23 August) SSOC : Watanabe_Te, Nishio KSC : Kano, Hanaoka 7.2 STT timer setting STT timer setting is due on 19-Aug, Wednesday. 7.3 Holiday Schedule The holiday in week 34 will be on 23 August (Sun), JST. 7.4 Update on the Late Arrival of the Final Schedule from Wallops The final schedule for week 34 arrived on Saturday (version 02). 7.5 Minimum elevation of Wallops passes According to the tohban manual, DSN passes with elevation between 5 and 9 degrees may be accepted after consulting with someone who knows the DSN situation well (e.g. Te.Watanabe). In today's WOM it has been decided that Wallops passes with elevation larger than 7 degrees can be accepted without such consultation. 7.6 Annular eclipse on 1998 August 22 There will be an annular eclispe on 1998 August 22, 02:14 UT (max) on the sourthern Pacific. Its impact upon the operation of Yohkoh will be studied. 7.7 HXT calibration There will be HXT calibrations on August 18 (2nd pass) and on August 19 (2nd and 3rd passes). In 1998 July, 14 HXT flares were detected, among which 6 are strong enough for imaging. ============================================================= || The following is the same as the previous week's report || ============================================================= 7.8 pr_strawman The tohban checksheet still requests the use of pr_strawman, but this program is not yet available. 7.9 DSN selection by the program FMT_WALLOPS The SSOC tohbans should check the ACTIVITY column of the 7dayss-list to make sure that the keyword TKG PASS is not omitted or replaced with another term. This happened last week. The FMT_WALLOPS program searches for TKG PASS and will eliminate passes without this keyword. According to Wallops they will not use other comments in the ACTIVITY columun. But the SSOC tohbans should check this for the next few weeks just to make sure. 7.10 Pass Additions and Wallops Deletions At the meeting it was decided that for the Strawman schedule the SSOC tohbans should select the best DSN passes but, in addition, they should not delete any Wallops passes. After receiving the Preliminary schedule with JPL/DSN deletions, the unnecessary Wallops passes should be deleted. 7.11 DSN scheduling Since mid week 10, 1998, Wallops schedules all DSN passes instead of JPL. The system to communicate with Wallops is still under construction. For details, see the temporary manual in the file ~wallops/README file on flare20. All DSN-related software should be run from an IDL session in the flare20/wallops subdirectory. Please immediately report any problems with the DSN software or errors in the manual to Hudson san. (New week 25) Please retain all Wallops passes in the Strawman cancellation process. We have been informed by Wallops that this is OK. These passes are cancelled by NASA less frequently, so by doing this we avoid days with almost no coverage. 7.12 Bug in op_first_guess SSOC tohbans should be aware of a bug in op_first_guess, e.g., "% OP_START_END: Problem with detection of LOS/AOS/DSN Repro Events". If DSN-related software in the directory ~yohkoh/wallops does not work correctly, check to see if the files being used which you have obtained through ftp from Wallops (e.g., 7dayss.wNN) are written in the same format as the previous weeks' files. We experienced (week 25) some confusion about the timing of KSC AOS and the DAY OG. Please be careful. If there is an KSC-AOS NIGHT one step before the DAY OG, normally the two commands can simply be interchanged and the AOS command switched to DAY. 7.13 BDR trouble (See 'DP error' in "SSOC Tohban's Report for Week 02" in 1998.) A DP error (error code = 90 ->75) was found during the data dump at 980106-0411. 2 of 20 BDR blocks are not accessible. As a result, the capacity of BDR is at the moment nine-tenths that of the normal capacity. This error has not been recovered yet. Please note the special commands, RST BAD BANK DP DC EXEC now routinely appearing in the end of command sheets. This is part of the recovery attempt. 7.14 E-mail communications We rely upon e-mail more and more. For operations-related e-mail, it's hereby suggested that we make it a rule to ACKNOWLEDGE the receipt of any such e-mail message. This applies particularly among SSOC, SXT_CO, KSC and SXT_ST. 7.15 Long Range Schedule Arrangement for Planet-B Planet-B was launched on July 4, 1998 for the mission to Mars. During the flight operation (lasting for twenty six days before the launch window begins), the KSC 20-meter antenna system will be used. After the launch, Planet-B will be tracked by the USD 64m and the newly (to be) installed KSC 34m antenna. Tracking schedule during the flight operation interval will be negotiated among the five teams namely: AKEBONO, YOHKOH, ASCA, HALCA and Planet-B. (Tetsuya WATANABE,NAOJ) * For more information, see a filed report (written in Japanese). ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 8. Action Items (Same as last week's SSOC Report) 8.1 Further software development. Status CONTINUING. It would be greatly appreciated if the SSOC tohbans could recommend any software development that they think will save future tohbans time and which improves the reliability of their work. 8.2 Week-48-A/I-1 /Hudson/status AJAR. PRINT_OGALL still does not work well. Hudson will fix it next. After the corrections are made, these procedures should be incorporated into the tohban manual. === END ===
