SSOC Tohban's Report for Week 37 ( 7-13 Sep 1998) SSOC : Naito, Nitta KSC : Miyagoshi, Nagata (Graduate students Kubo, Yashiro and Akiyama assisted with KSC duties on Sep 8, 9 and 10, respectively) 0. Meeting Attendance Hudson, Khan, Naito, Nakajima, Nitta, Sawa, Shimizu, Wuelser ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Solar Activity Solar activity was not low after all, with two M-class and many C-class flares. During the first half of the week, we spent most of our time observing AR 8323, in coordination with the Meudon/Tenerife campaign. There was an obvious filament disappearance (7-Sep-98) to the northeast of AR 8323, not leaving spectacular X-ray signatures. The first M-class flare, on 9-Sep-98, occurred in AR 8323, but escaped our observations in PFIs due to a simultaneous brightening in another region (AR 8331). ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Standard Operations 2.1 SXT Table Uploads The following SXT tables were uploaded last week. ----------------------------------------------------------------- JST Day UT Start Time Pass Table ID ================================================================= Sunday 6-Sep-98 07:13 2 980906 P2 ARS1 STD DIF Monday 7-Sep-98 10:56 4 980907 P4 ARS1 DARKCAL Tuesday 8-Sep-98 04:24 1 980908 P1 ARS2 MEUDON Tuesday 8-Sep-98 11:13 5 980908 P5 ARS1 STD Wednesday 9-Sep-98 04:40 1 980909 P1 ARS2 MEUDON Wednesday 9-Sep-98 08:05 3 980909 P2 ARS1 STD Friday 11-Sep-98 05:14 2 980911 P2 ARS1 STD ----------------------------------------------------------------- 2.2 STT timer setting STT timer was set during pass 2 (980908-0413) on 8-Sep (Tue). ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Errors and Problems 3.1 BCS Errors A BCS error occurred during pass 980910-0517, the last pass of that day. It was recovered successfully at the same pass. 3.2 SXT Errors Bitmap Errors occurred at passes 980907-0826, 980909-0310 and 980909-0620. Each of them was cleared at the same pass with Yobi command C. 3.3 Possible OP_FIRST_GUESS Problem. OP_FIRST_GUESS failed to pick up a couple of passes from the solass.w37 DSN schedule last week. Here is an example: . . . 251 2159 2224 2238 2248 DSS-76 SOL R TKG PASS 8036 xxxxxx- xxx *---------- *WED 09 Sep *---------- 252 2342 0007 0020 0030 DSS-76 SOL R TKG PASS 8037 xxxxxx- xxx 252 0125 0150 0201 0211 DSS-76 SOL R TKG PASS 8038 xxxxxx- xxx 252 1852 1917 1929 1939 DSS-76 SOL R TKG PASS 8049 xxxxxx- xxx In this case, the missed pass was the one beginning at 0007. The problem seems to be that the DSN START time and the BOT times are for different DOY dates. We edited the solass.w37 file so that this line read: 251 2342 0007 0020 0030 DSS-76 SOL R TKG PASS 8037 xxxxxx- xxx OP_FIRST_GUESS then was able to pick up this pass. The other pass that OP_FIRST_GUESS missed had a similar form and was handled in the same way. We notified Jim Lemen of this problem. He hopes to look into this problem over the next couple of months. In the meantime, Tohbans will have to be on the lookout for this sort of problem. (Thanks go to Asizawa-san, who first noticed the missing pass even though he is "green" and was working alone at KSC.) We wonder if this problem has occurred in the past?? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Special Operations 4.1 Pointing adjustment New parameters were given for normal pointing by ROG20h during pass 980909-0517. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. DSN Communications 5.1 DSN Schedule Passes were added/deleted as follows. ------------------------------------------------------------------- DSN Schedule Week Schedule Changes =================================================================== Final W37 1 pass deleted by previous SSOC Final W38 1 pass deleted by SSOC Preliminary W39 0 passes deleted Strawman W40 84 passes deleted by SSOC ------------------------------------------------------------------- 5.2 Data Transmission from DSN (Refer to /home/flare1/yohkoh/dsn_corrupt/98_37) 234 66 0203 not received Requested 25 Aug no response 26 Aug no response 28 Aug 243 74 1815 corrupted tape Requested 08 Sep Closed/ same data(10-Sep) 247 76 0022 corrupted tape Requested 08 Sep Closed/ correct data received(10-Sep) 249 76 2008 corrupted tape Requested 11 Sep 250 76 2208 corrupted tape Requested 11 Sep 250 76 2349 corrupted tape Requested 11 Sep 251 76 0132 corrupted tape Requested 11 Sep ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6. KSC Pass Conflicts and Schedule In week 38, the entire day (5 passes) will be given to Nozomi on Wednesday (16-Sep-98). In addition 2 passes will be given to Akebono. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7. Hikitsugi Items 7.1 Tohbans for week 38 (14 Sep - 20 Sep) SSOC : Nakajima, Yoshida (16-) KSC : Nagata, Yamaguchi_M 7.2 STT timer setting STT timer setting is due on Tuesday 15-Sep. 7.3 Holiday Schedule The holiday during week 38 will be on 20-Sep-98 (Sun), JST. 7.4 OP status. The OP and Command Sheets to be uploaded Monday morning have been prepared. This OP covers until Tuesday's first pass. Because of the unavailability of passes on Wednesday, the tohban probably have to prepare two OPs on Tuesday, as in weekend operations. 7.5 Manual and Checksheet A new version of the English Tohban Manual was generated during week 98_36, along with a corresponding new Tohban Checksheet. The new (and all future) Tohbans are requested to note any changes or mistakes in the manual, and to notify A. Sterling of any changes. If the changes involve the DSN procedures or the ~yohkoh/wallops/README file, Hugh Hudson san should also be notified. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8. Action Items 8.1 Further software development. Status CONTINUING. It would be greatly appreciated if the SSOC tohbans could recommend any software development that they think will save future tohbans time and which improves the reliability of their work. 8.1.1 ADD_DSN.PRO It would be helpful to have an "ADD_DSN.PRO" code (modeled on cancel_dsn) to simplify the procedure for making pass addition requests. 8.2 Week-48-A/I-1 /Hudson/status AJAR. PRINT_OGALL still does not work well. Hudson will fix it next. === END ===
