SSOC Tohban's Report for Week 05 (25-Jan-99 -- 31-Jan-99) SSOC : A.Sterling, N.Shinohara KSC : K.Kumagai, K.Hori 0. Meeting Attendance T. Watanabe, A.Sterling, D.McKenzie, J. Khan, G. Slater M. Shimojo -------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Solar Activity Solar activity was moderate, with GOES level near C1, but falling during the week. There was one M-class flare (25-Jan; BCS obtained data) and many C-class flares through Saturday. -------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Standard Operations 2.1 SXT Table Uploads The following SXT tables were uploaded in week 05. ===================================================== UT Time Pass Table ID ===================================================== 25-JAN-99 16:26 2 990125 P2 ARS1 TRACE 26-JAN-99 14:59 3 990126 P3 ARS1 DARKCAL 27-JAN-99 15:15 2 990127 P2 ARS1 STD 28-JAN-99 17:15 3 990128 P3 ARS1 DIFF 29-JAN-99 14:05 2 990129 P2 ARS1 STD 30-JAN-99 12:38 3 990130 P3 ARS1 STD ===================================================== 2.2 STT Timer setting The STT timer was set three times during the week: during pass 4 on 25-Jan-99 (Monday UT), pass 4 on 27-Jan-99 (Wednesday UT), and pass 4 on 29-Jan-99 (Friday UT). The next timer setting should be done on 2-Jan-99 (Tuesday UT). -------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Errors and Problems 3.1 BCS Errors None 3.2 SXT Errors There was an SXT shutter error during pass 990130-0826, which was recovered during the next pass, 990130-0930. 3.3 TMX REP, TMX REAL The KSC Tohbans report that after the 990129-0619 (pass 1 Friday) pass, the TMX REP flag was showing on the Commander's screen (TMX REAL is expected). The reason for this is unknown, but NEC's Shinohara san suggests that it could be due to Yohkoh's TLM. After pass 2, the TMX REAL flag came up as expected, so whatever the problem was seems to have corrected itself, but this may be something to be on the look out for in the future. [The nature of this problem was still unclear during the Monday meeting. Watanabe san will investigate it further.] 3.4 NASA Tracking Stations Nothing to report. -------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Special Operations BCS calibrations were done, with a stim calibration during pass 990127-1031, and a source calibration on 990127, near 10:40 UT. HXT had planned to carry out gain adjustments during the week, but they were found to not be necessary after Sawa san checked the previous week's calibration data. -------------------------------------------------------------- 5. NASA Station Scheduling 5.1 Contact pass cancels/adds The following DSN/NASA passes were added/deleted: =================================================================== DSN/NASA Schedule Week Schedule Changes =================================================================== Final 05 1 pass deleted by DSN (Madrid) Final 06 1 pass deleted by SSOC Preliminary 07 4 passes deleted by SSOC Strawman 08 49 passes deleted by SSOC =================================================================== 5.2 Data Transmission from NASA Ground Stations -(Refer to /home/flare1/yohkoh/dsn_corrupt/99_05)-------------- 016 16 1112 10% corrupted Requested 21 Jan 10% corrupted Requested 26 Jan Closed/ same data(29-Jan) 021 80 0918 70% corrupted tape Requested 25 Jan Closed/ same data(27-Jan) 026 76 0023 100% corrupted tape Requested 28 Jan Closed/ correct data(29-Jan) 026 76 0204 100% corrupted tape Requested 28 Jan Closed/ correct data(29-Jan) 026 76 0346 100% corrupted tape Requested 28 Jan not received tape Requested 29 Jan 026 80 0529 100% corrupted tape Requested 28 Jan Closed/ correct data(29-Jan) 020 16 0918 No Data DR# G04536 023 66 2224 L02920-Late TLM lock TGC problem 024 66 2239 L02923-TGC locked -Reset both chan -------------------------------------------------------------- 6. KSC Pass Conflicts and Schedule In week 05, we gave two contacts to Asuka and three contacts to Haruka. In week 06, we will give one contact to Asuka, four to Haruka, and five to Akebono. -------------------------------------------------------------- 7. Hikitsugi Items 7.1 Tohbans for week 06 SSOC: Shimojo, Suematsu(ex.1) KSC: Hori(-7), Akiyama -------------------------------------------------------------- 7.2 STT timer setting The next timer setting should be on Tuesday, 02-Feb-99 (UT) -------------------------------------------------------------- 7.3 Holiday Schedule The holiday in week 06 will be on Sunday, 07-Feb (JST). ----------------------------------------------------------- 7.4 Manual and Checksheet A new version of the English Tohban Manual was generated during the week, along with a corresponding new Tohban Checksheet. The new (and all future) Tohbans are requested to note any changes or mistakes in the manual, and to notify A. Sterling of the changes. If the changes involve the DSN procedures or the ~yohkoh/wallops/README file, Hugh Hudson san should also be notified. Please include your name (or initials) next to your suggested corrections. Current Version Yohkoh Tohban Duties Manual Rev. 1-Feb-99, A. Sterling README (Manual for Wallops/DSN Operations) Ver.5.2 28-Sep-98, H. Hudson The Japanese SSOC Tohban Manual was last modified on 23-Nov-98 by Ishii and Ichimoto san-tachi. ---------------------------------------------------------------- 7.5 Some Problems in OP_FIRST_GUESS - NASA tracking passes Hudson san has modified DSN_INPUT.PRO to take care of an op_first_guess problem in picking up some NASA passes occurring near 0 hours UT (see week 98_37 SSOC report for a detailed description of the problem). All seems to be fine now, but for a while Tohbans should double check that all the passes assigned to us by NASA in the latest final schedule are actually included in the OP. - Maximum Elevation In determining zenith passes, Tohbans should use the maximum altitude listed in the Weekly Visible Diagram, rather than the value on the command sheets. (See week 99_04 SSOC Tohban report for more details). ---------------------------------------------------------------- 7.5 DSN Pass Additions (from week48_98 report) Pass addition requests can now conveniently be made (preferably at the Preliminary Schedule stage) using the add_dsn routine. See the wallops directory README file, and the Tohban Manual section on DSN Scheduling. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8. Action Items 8.1 Further software development. Status CONTINUING. It would be greatly appreciated if the SSOC tohbans could recommend any software development that they think will save future tohbans time and which improves the reliability of their work. ---------------------------------------------------------------- 8.2 Week-48-A/I-1 /Hudson/status AJAR. PRINT_OGALL still does not work well. Hudson will fix it. ---------------------------------------------------------------- 8.3 Week-48-98 / DSN Pass Additions Procedure / Sterling / CLOSED Sterling-san will contact Ogawara-san and Lemen-san to determine a procedure acceptable to DSN to be used for DSN Planning (check policy regarding Wallops passes) and Pass Addition Requests. -- Use of Wallops passes should be given strong preference over those of the three DSN stations. Only use the DSN stations if no Wallops pass is near enough in time to assure adequate coverage. We are free to make pass addition requests where appropriate -- see the manual for guidelines (Section on "DSN Final, Preliminary, and Strawman Schedules"). ---------------------------------------------------------------- 8.4 DSN Santiago Station / Hudson DSN Santiago Station(#74) has been not available since 1 Oct. 1998. We get strawman listings and are trying to confirm that these are really to be ignored. The policy may switch. (HSH, 22-Jan-98) 8.5 Wallops pass conflicts between ASCA and Yohkoh. / Hudson We have determined that the Wallops staff can resolve these conflicts. It is possible (and likely) that Wallops can handle both satellites simultaneously (HSH, w04). === END ===
