SSOC Tohban's Report for Week 06 (01-Feb-99 -- 07-Feb-99) SSOC : M.Shimojo, Y.Suematsu KSC : K.Hori, S.Akiyama 0. Meeting Attendance H.Hara, R. Kano, J. Khan, T. Kosugi, D.McKenzie, Y. Ogawara, M. Sawa, M. Shimojo, A. Sterling, T. Watanabe -------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Solar Activity Solar activity was moderate through the week. There were four C-class flares; the largest was C5.1 around 07:08UT on 4 Feb. -------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Standard Operations 2.1 SXT Table Uploads The following SXT tables were uploaded in week 06. ===================================================== UT Time Pass Table ID ===================================================== 02-FEB-99 11:53 4 990202 P4 ARS2 DARKCAL 03-FEB-99 08:43 2 990203 P2 ARS2 STD 04-FEB-99 07:17 2 990204 P3 ARS2 STD 05-FEB-99 07:33 2 990205 P2 ARS2 STD 06-FEB-99 07:49 3 990206 P3 ARS2 STD ===================================================== 2.2 STT Timer setting The STT timer was set during pass 3 on 02-Feb-99 (Tuesday UT). The next timer setting should be done on 09-Feb-99 (Tuesday UT). -------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Errors and Problems 3.1 BCS Errors None 3.2 SXT Errors I. SXT DAT RG error was found at pass 990203-0825, which was recovered during the next pass, 990204-0412. II. SXT FRM GD error was found at pass 990206-0309, which was recovered during the next pass, 990206-0413. 3.3 S-Band Transmission Error The commands could not be uploaded to YOHKOH at the pass 1 and 2 on 1 Feb (Mon), because the tuning to the S-band did not work. This trouble was recovered just before the pass 3. 3.4 The Report of TCU Relay problem in Week 05 The X-band status did not come back to the REAL DATA (RL) transmission, when DP completed the BDR data reproduction at the 990129-0619. It was kept to RP until we completed the reproduction at 990129-0722, but successfully returned to RL. This is due to a malfunction of one of the relays in TCU switching the input of the TMX telemetry. The same trouble happened once before about three years ago, and the degradation its performance was noticed. We do not think it a serious problem because the X-band is used only for the BDR reproduction at KSC, and we can downlink the BDR data through S-band as well. 3.5 NASA Tracking Stations Nothing to report. -------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Special Operations None. -------------------------------------------------------------- 5. NASA Station Scheduling 5.1 Contact pass cancels/adds The following DSN/NASA passes were added/deleted: =================================================================== DSN/NASA Schedule Week Schedule Changes =================================================================== Final 07 2 passes deleted by SSOC Preliminary 08 2 passes deleted by SSOC Strawman 09 73 passes deleted by SSOC =================================================================== 5.2 Data Transmission from NASA Ground Stations -(Refer to /home/flare1/yohkoh/dsn_corrupt/99_06)-------------- 026 76 0346 100% corrupted tape Requested 28 Jan no response tape Requested 29 Jan Closed/ same data(03-Feb) 026 17 0845 not received Requested 02 Feb no response Requested 05 Feb 032 76 0157 40% corrupted tape Requested 05 Feb -------------------------------------------------------------- 6. KSC Pass Conflicts and Schedule In week 06, we gave one contact to Asuka, five contacts to Akebono, and four contacts to Haruka. In week 07, we will give five contacts to Asuka, five to Haruka, and one to Akebono. -------------------------------------------------------------- 7. Hikitsugi Items 7.1 Tohbans for week 07 SSOC: Sawa, Kano KSC: Akiyama, Ishii -------------------------------------------------------------- 7.2 STT timer setting The next timer setting should be on Tuesday, 09-Feb-99 (UT) -------------------------------------------------------------- 7.3 Date of the meeting on negotiation YOHKOH/ASCA conflicts The meeting is scheduled from 1:30 P.M. of 10 Feb (Wed), because the Thursday, 11 Feb, is a national holiday. -------------------------------------------------------------- 7.4 Holiday Schedule The holiday in week 07 will be on Sunday, 14-Feb (JST). ----------------------------------------------------------- 7.5 Manual and Checksheet A new version of the English Tohban Manual was generated during the week, along with a corresponding new Tohban Checksheet. The new (and all future) Tohbans are requested to note any changes or mistakes in the manual, and to notify A. Sterling of the changes. If the changes involve the DSN procedures or the ~yohkoh/wallops/README file, Hugh Hudson san should also be notified. Please include your name (or initials) next to your suggested corrections. Current Version Yohkoh Tohban Duties Manual Rev. 1-Feb-99, A. Sterling README (Manual for Wallops/DSN Operations) Ver.5.2 28-Sep-98, H. Hudson The Japanese SSOC Tohban Manual was last modified on 23-Nov-98 by Ishii and Ichimoto san-tachi. ---------------------------------------------------------------- 7.5 Some Problems in OP_FIRST_GUESS - NASA tracking passes Hudson san has modified DSN_INPUT.PRO to take care of an op_first_guess problem in picking up some NASA passes occurring near 0 hours UT (see week 98_37 SSOC report for a detailed description of the problem). All seems to be fine now, but for a while Tohbans should double check that all the passes assigned to us by NASA in the latest final schedule are actually included in the OP. - Maximum Elevation In determining zenith passes, Tohbans should use the maximum altitude listed in the Weekly Visible Diagram, rather than the value on the command sheets. (See week 99_04 SSOC Tohban report for more details). ---------------------------------------------------------------- 7.5 DSN Pass Additions (from week48_98 report) Pass addition requests can now conveniently be made (preferably at the Preliminary Schedule stage) using the add_dsn routine. See the wallops directory README file, and the Tohban Manual section on DSN Scheduling. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8. Action Items 8.1 Further software development. Status CONTINUING. It would be greatly appreciated if the SSOC tohbans could recommend any software development that they think will save future tohbans time and which improves the reliability of their work. ---------------------------------------------------------------- 8.2 Week-48-A/I-1 /Hudson/status AJAR. PRINT_OGALL still does not work well. Hudson will fix it. ---------------------------------------------------------------- 8.3 DSN Santiago Station / Ogawara and Hudson/ Continue DSN Santiago Station(#74) has been not available since 1 Oct. 1998. We get strawman listings and are trying to confirm that these are really to be ignored. The policy may switch. (HSH, 22-Jan-98) Since the negotiations between our and NASA, DSN Santiago Station(#74) will be available for YOHKOH and ASCA. However, the duration of reserving tracking support for Yohkoh is not fixed. (M.S, 8-Feb-99) 8.4 Wallops pass conflicts between ASCA and Yohkoh. / Hudson We have determined that the Wallops staff can resolve these conflicts. It is possible (and likely) that Wallops can handle both satellites simultaneously (HSH, w04). === END ===
