SSOC Tohban's Report for Week 08 (15-Feb-99 -- 21-Feb-99) SSOC : K. Akita, J. I. Khan KSC : T. Ishii, S. Kawashima 0. Meeting Attendance Akita, Kosugi, Sawa, Imai, Watanabe, Hara, Sterling, Hudson, Acton, Khan -------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Solar Activity Solar activity increased from last week. The background level was around C1-level. There were 3 M-class flares, and over 40 C-class flares. There were many active regions on the solar disk. -------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Standard Operations 2.1 SXT Table Uploads The following SXT tables were uploaded during week 08: ===================================================== UT Date Pass Table ID ===================================================== 15-FEB-99 2 990215 P2 ARS2 VLA 5 990215 P5 ARS2 VLA 16-FEB-99 2 990216 P2 ARS1 ECLIPSE 17-FEB-99 2 990217 P2 ARS1 DARKCAL 18-FEB-99 2 990217 P2 ARS1 DIF 5 990217 P5 ARS1 STD 19-FEB-99 2 990218 P2 ARS2 VLA 2 990218 P5 ARS2 VLA 20-FEB-99 2 990219 P2 ARS1 STD ===================================================== 2.2 STT Timer setting The STT timer was set during pass 2 on 16-Feb-99 (Tuesday UT). -------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Errors and Problems 3.1 BCS Errors: None. 3.2 SXT Errors: None. 3.3 NASA Tracking Stations: Nothing to report. -------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Special Operations An annular solar eclipse occurred on 16-Feb-99, which was observed by Yohkoh during three of its orbits. R. Kano and T. Watanabe prepared special commands for the Yohkoh orbital timer. The observations of the solar eclipse went well. The normal pointing of Yohkoh was updated on pass 1 of 18-Feb-99. HXT observation mode for flares was changed to calibration mode on pass 1 of 16-Feb-99. Consequently, more channels are observed (64), but the time resolution of the data is lower (8 s). SXT conducted a co-ordinated observing campaign with VLA & TRACE. -------------------------------------------------------------- 5. NASA Station Scheduling 5.1 Contact pass cancels/adds The following DSN/NASA passes were added/deleted: =================================================================== DSN/NASA Schedule Week Schedule Changes =================================================================== Final 09 2 passes added by SSOC Preliminary 10 1 passes deleted by SSOC 7 pass additions requested by SSOC (still waiting to hear) Strawman 11 6 passes deleted due to ASCA conflicts 80 more passes deleted by SSOC =================================================================== 5.2 Data Transmission from NASA Ground Stations -(From /home/flare1/yohkoh/dsn_corrupt/99_08)------------ 032 76 0157 40% corrupted tape Requested 05 Feb no response tape Requested 10 Feb Closed/ correct data 041 76 0057 corrupted tape Requested 16 Feb Closed/ same data 041 76 2004 corrupted tape Requested 16 Feb Closed/ correct data 042 76 2346 corrupted tape Requested 16 Feb Closed/ same data 046 46 1045 6% data loss Requested 19 Feb 047 82 1634 corrupted tape Requested 19 Feb 047 80 1958 corrupted tape Requested 19 Feb -------------------------------------------------------------- 6. KSC Pass Conflicts and Schedule In week 08, 8 KSC contacts were given to ASCA, and 1 to HALCA. In week 09, we will give 6 KSC contacts to ASCA. -------------------------------------------------------------- 7. Hikitsugi Items 7.1 Tohbans for week 09 SSOC: K. Akita, H. Imai KSC: S. Kawashima, T. Yamasaki (23--) 7.2 STT timer setting The next timer setting should be on Tuesday, 23-Feb-99 (UT) 7.3 Holiday Schedule The holiday for week 09 will be on Sunday, 28-Feb (JST). 7.5 GEOTAIL operation at KSC There will be the following GEOTAIL operations at KSC. 2/28 13:00 - 20:00 UT (1st 2 KSC passes will be given away) 3/ 1 14:00 - 18:30 UT (1st KSC pass only will be given away) Three Yohkoh contacts will conflict with the operations. It will be negotiated at the Thursday meeting. ====== The following is the same as the previous week's report. ====== 7.6 Manual and Checksheet A new version of the English Tohban Manual was generated during the week, along with a corresponding new Tohban Checksheet. The new (and all future) Tohbans are requested to note any changes or mistakes in the manual, and to notify A. Sterling of the changes. If the changes involve the DSN procedures or the ~yohkoh/wallops/README file, Hugh Hudson san should also be notified. Please include your name (or initials) next to your suggested corrections. Current Version Yohkoh Tohban Duties Manual Rev. 1-Feb-99, A. Sterling README (Manual for Wallops/DSN Operations) Ver.5.2 28-Sep-98, H. Hudson The Japanese SSOC Tohban Manual was last modified on 23-Nov-98 by Ishii and Ichimoto san-tachi. 7.7 Some Problems in OP_FIRST_GUESS - NASA tracking passes Hudson san has modified DSN_INPUT.PRO to take care of an op_first_guess problem in picking up some NASA passes occurring near 0 hours UT (see week 98_37 SSOC report for a detailed description of the problem). All seems to be fine now, but for a while Tohbans should double check that all the passes assigned to us by NASA in the latest final schedule are actually included in the OP. - Maximum Elevation In determining zenith passes, Tohbans should use the maximum altitude listed in the Weekly Visible Diagram, rather than the value on the command sheets. (See week 99_04 SSOC Tohban report for more details). 7.8 DSN Pass Additions (from week48_98 report) Pass addition requests can now conveniently be made (preferably at the Preliminary Schedule stage) using the add_dsn routine. See the wallops directory README file, and the Tohban Manual section on DSN Scheduling. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8. Action Items 8.1 Further software development. Status CONTINUING. It would be greatly appreciated if the SSOC tohbans could recommend any software development that they think will save future tohbans time and which improves the reliability of their work. 8.2 Week-48-A/I-1 /Hudson/status AJAR. PRINT_OGALL still does not work well. Hudson will fix it. 8.3 DSN Santiago Station / Ogawara and Hudson/ CLOSED DSN Santiago Station(#74) is now available. While 2 hr / day are avaliable for all NASA-supported missions, this is an average value. Since some days will not require Santiago passes while others will, the Yohkoh tohbans may request all the Santiago passes they need each day. 8.4 Wallops pass conflicts between ASCA and Yohkoh. / Hudson / status ? We have determined that the Wallops staff can resolve these conflicts. It is possible (and likely) that Wallops can handle both satellites simultaneously (HSH, w04). === END ===
