Meeting Attendance Haga, Hata, Khan, Kosugi, Nitta, Ogawara, Sawa, Shibasaki, Shirts, Watanabe -------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Solar Activity The solar activity was B1 level at the beginning of week 14, but has gradually increased to nearly C1 level since Thursday toward the weekend. Two M-class flares occurred on 2-Apr (Friday) and 3-Apr (Sat), the latter of which seemed to be fully observed by Yohkoh. -------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Standard Operations 2.1 SXT Table Uploads The following SXT tables were uploaded during week 14: ===================================================== JST Date Pass Table ID ===================================================== 29-MAR-99 2 990329 P2 ARS1 DIF 30-MAR-99 4 990330 P4 ARS1 DARCAL 31-MAR-99 1 990331 P1 ARS1 E-OFF 2 990331 P2 ARS1 STD 1-APR-99 1 990401 P1 ARS1 W-OFF 3 990401 P3 ARS1 STD 2-APR-99 None 3-APR-99 4 990403 P4 ARS1 STD ===================================================== 2.2 STT Timer setting STT timer was set during pass 4 on 30-Mar-99 (JST) just after the eclipse of Canopus lasting for six days since 25-Mar. -------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Errors and Problems 3.1 BCS Errors: BCS error was found during pass 1 on 2-APR-99. It was recovered at pass 3 on the same day. (Note that Yohkoh was not operated at pass 2.) 3.2 SXT Errors: (None) 3.3 NASA Tracking Stations: (Nothing to report.) -------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Special Operations 4.1 OG rewrite, Offpoint and Normal point OG #085 S/C E9.89 S.744 E-Offpoint #086 S/C W10.1 S.744 W-Offpoint (These OG's were edited on 30-Mar for uploading on 31-Mar but mitakingly not sent to KSC. They were actually uploaded on 1-Apr.) 990330 P1 OG write (not successful), ROG #085 (E-Offpoint) P2 ROG #032 (Normal Pointing) 990401 P1 OG write (Well done), ROG #086 (W-Offpoint) P3 ROG #032 (Normal Pointing) -------------------------------------------------------------- 5. NASA Station Scheduling 5.1 Contact pass cancels/adds The following DSN/NASA passes were added/deleted: =================================================================== DSN/NASA Schedule Week Schedule Changes =================================================================== Realtime 14 1 pass deleted by SSOC (low max. el.)* Final 15 3 pass deleted by SSOC (low max. el.)* (2 passes out of the 3 are requested to add.)** Preliminary 16 6 passes deleted by SSOC Strawman 17 53 passes deleted by SSOC =================================================================== *) A wrong threshold of 10 deg was mistakingly adopted. **) Cancelation of DELETION is under request for two passes with more than 7-deg maximum elevation. No reply from Wallops has arrived as of 9:30 am JST Monday, 5-Apr. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $ $ $ Note: Currently the maximum elevation threshold is 7 degrees; if DSN passes $ $ have maximum elevations larger than 7 degrees, they are used for DSN $ $ downlink. SSOC Tohbans need to examine the maximum elevation when $ $ finalizing the DSN final schedule, because the maximum elevation $ $ may change from the strawman to final schedule die to changing orbital $ $ elements. $ $ $ $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ 5.2 Data Transmission from NASA Ground Stations -(From /home/flare1/yohkoh/dsn_corrupt/99_13)------------ 081 80 2225 corrupted tape Requested 26 Mar no response tape Requested 31 Mar Closed/ correct data 082 76 0006 corrupted tape Requested 24 Mar no response tape Requested 26 Mar no response tape Requested 31 Mar Closed/ same data 087 74 1308 not received Requested 31 Mar -------------------------------------------------------------- 6. KSC Pass Conflicts and Schedule In week 15, 5 KSC contacts to ASCA, 6 to AKEBONO. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $ $ $ Note: Since the KSC pass conflict of Yohkoh with other ISAS satellites, $ $ especially with ASCA, becomes worse for the time being and lasts for $ $ about one year, it is highly wanted for us to make use of Santiago $ $ station passes as complementing the lost KSC passes. $ $ $ $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ -------------------------------------------------------------- 7. Hikitsugi Items 7.1 Tohbans for week 15 SSOC: K. Shibasaki (till Sat.), M. Hata (ex. Wed.) KSC: H. Kozu, K. Kobayashi 7.2 STT timer setting STT timer setting is due on Tuesday, 6-Apr-99 (JST) 7.3 Holiday Schedule The next holiday will be Sunday, 11-Apr (JST). $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $ $ $ Discussions in WOM $ $ $ $ (a) WARNING to Yohkoh data users of ATT database $ $ Due to decreasing signal level of HXA, we have suffered from inaccuracy of $ $ Sun center addresses stored in the ATT file since mid-1997. Thanks to Jean- $ $ Pierre Wuelser's efforts, we have successfully developed a new method to $ $ derive the Sun center using HXA scan data instead of HXA limb address data, $ $ with which the above inaccuracy is overcome. However, the revision of the $ $ already-created ATT files takes time. Please be careful when analyzing Yohkoh $ $ image data which were taken after mid-1997. $ $ $ $ (b) Another WARNING to temporal reformatted data users $ $ Another ATT-file-related problem is met when we try to analyze data stored $ $ in temporary reformatted data, which are reformatted just after each KSC $ $ contact mainly for the operations purpose. This problem does not appear at $ $ all after the official reformatting is made some 3-6 weeks later. If you $ $ want to quickly check the recently-obtained data, pleased don't forget that $ $ the accuracy is not guaranteed. $ $ $ $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ ====== The following is the same as the previous week's report. ====== 7.6 Manual and Checksheet A new version of the English Tohban Manual was generated during the week, along with a corresponding new Tohban Checksheet. The new (and all future) Tohbans are requested to note any changes or mistakes in the manual, and to notify A. Sterling of the changes. If the changes involve the DSN procedures or the ~yohkoh/wallops/README file, Hugh Hudson san should also be notified. Please include your name (or initials) next to your suggested corrections. Current Version Yohkoh Tohban Duties Manual Rev. 1-Feb-99, A. Sterling README (Manual for Wallops/DSN Operations) Ver.5.2 28-Sep-98, H. Hudson The Japanese SSOC Tohban Manual was last modified on 23-Nov-98 by Ishii and Ichimoto san-tachi. 7.7 Some Problems in OP_FIRST_GUESS - NASA tracking passes Hudson san has modified DSN_INPUT.PRO to take care of an op_first_guess problem in picking up some NASA passes occurring near 0 hours UT (see week 98_37 SSOC report for a detailed description of the problem). All seems to be fine now, but for a while Tohbans should double check that all the passes assigned to us by NASA in the latest final schedule are actually included in the OP. - Maximum Elevation In determining zenith passes, Tohbans should use the maximum altitude listed in the Weekly Visible Diagram, rather than the value on the command sheets. (See week 99_04 SSOC Tohban report for more details). 7.8 DSN Pass Additions (from week48_98 report) Pass addition requests can now conveniently be made (preferably at the Preliminary Schedule stage) using the add_dsn routine. See the wallops directory README file, and the Tohban Manual section on DSN Scheduling. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8. Action Items 8.1 Further software development. Status CONTINUING. It would be greatly appreciated if the SSOC tohbans could recommend any software development that they think will save future tohbans time and which improves the reliability of their work. 8.2 Week-48-A/I-1 /Hudson/status AJAR. PRINT_OGALL still does not work well. Hudson will fix it. === END ===
