SSOC Tohban's Report for Week 18 (27-APR-99 -- 03-MAY-99) SSOC : M. Nishio and R. Canfield KSC : S. Masuda and M. Shimojo 0. Meeting Attendance No meeting was held this week because of the holiday. -------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Solar Activity (tbd) Solar activity was low, but increasing during Week 18, with more than ten flares of C-class and one of M-class (see plot). -------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Standard Operations 2.1 SXT Table Uploads The following SXT tables were uploaded during week 18: ===================================================== JST Date Pass Table ID ===================================================== 25-APR-99 2 990425 P2 ARS2 STARE* 26-APR-99 2 990426 P2 ARS2 STARK* 27-APR-99 2 990427 P2 ARS2 STIFV2 27-APR-99 5 990427 P5 ARS2 STARE* 28-APR-99 2 990428 P2 ARS1 STARE* 29-APR-99 2 990429 P2 ARS1 STD* 30-APR-99 2 990429 P2 ARS1 STD* 01-MAY-99 2 990430 P2 ARS1 STD ===================================================== 2.2 STT Timer setting STT timer was set during pass 1 on 26-APR-99 (JST). -------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Special Operations 3.1 HXT calibration BCS calibration was conducted during pass 2 on Friday (1 MAY). 3.2 Spacecraft pointing OG 32(dec) (S/C W.071 N921) was done during pass 1 on Wednesday (28 APR) -------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Errors and Problems 4.1 BCS Errors: None 4.2 SXT Errors: SXT Bit MAP Error at pass 1 (PASS ID 990425-1031) on 26-Apr-99, recovered using SXT Yobi-C recovery command in this pass. SXT Bit MAP Error at pass 5 (PASS ID 990430-1240) on 30-Apr-99, recovered using SXT Yobi-C recovery command in this pass. 4.3 ISAS FlareN machines: A SSW problem occurred on 27-Apr-99, preventing IDL programs from being run on all FlareN machines. This problem was reported as "Variable name too long". The problem was fixed by Freeland. 4.4 op_first_guess: op_first_guess did not pick up DSN passes from the final schedule 7dayss.w19.1 because the Pass Number was given with 5 digits, rather than the usual 4. This problem was fixed by DSN in 7dayss.w19.2. 5. NASA Station Scheduling 5.1 Contact pass cancels/adds The following DSN/NASA passes were added/deleted: =================================================================== DSN/NASA Schedule Week Schedule Changes =================================================================== Final 18 2 passes deleted by SSOC Final 19 20 passes deleted by SSOC (Santiago) Preliminary 20 0 passes deleted by SSOC Strawman 21 71 passes deleted by SSOC =================================================================== 5.2 Data Transmission from NASA Ground Stations -(From /home/flare1/yohkoh/dsn_corrupt/99_17)------------ 109 80 1554 corrupted tape requested 23 Apr no response tape requested 27 Apr 110 80 0738 corrupted tape requested 23 Apr no response tape requested 27 Apr 110 80 0918 corrupted tape requested 23 Apr no response tape requested 27 Apr 111 80 1115 corrupted tape requested 27 Apr 112 80 0806 corrupted tape requested 27 Apr 113 80 0821 corrupted tape requested 27 Apr -------------------------------------------------------------- 6. KSC Pass Conflicts and Schedule 6.1 Weekly conflict meeting In week 19, 8 KSC contacts to ASCA, 0 to AKEBONO. 6.2 KSC - Santiago downlinks The Santiago station of the DSN lies on the same orbits as KSC. Santiago passes are valuable for times when Yohkoh loses contacts to spacecraft conflicts. The weekly conflict meeting for Week 19 occurs after the arrival of the DSN Final schedule for Week 19. Therefore, we must cancel or add Santiago contacts at Final. However, the orbital predictions for the spacecraft are accurate enough to allow the creation of the DSN Strawman Forecast for Week 21. Better planning of DSN Santiago contacts could be made if the KSC conflict meeting was used to look farther into the future. During Week 19, we should be determining the KSC conflicts for Week 21. That would permit better use of KSC and DSN resources. Number of contacts for Santiago station for Yohkoh+ASCA is limited to 21 per week. Since conflicts of KSC and Santiago stations are coupled ploblem, use of Santiago station also should be discussed after conflict meetings on Thursday (Wednesday in this week). -------------------------------------------------------------- 7. Hikitsugi Items 7.1 Tohbans for week 18 SSOC: K. Nakakubo(ex.6) T. Watanabe(3-5) S. Yashiro(6-11) KSC: M. Shimojo M. Shinkawa 7.2 STT timer setting STT timer setting is due on Tuesday, 04-May-99 (JST) 7.3 Holiday Schedule The next holiday will be Sunday, 9-May-99 (JST). 7.4 Elevation (from previous week) SSOC Tohbans need to examine the maximum elevation when checking the DSN final schedule, because the maximum elevation may change from the strawman to final schedule due to changing orbital elements. DSN requires a maximum elevation more than 7 degrees . This is listed in the English language manual, but not the Japanese language manual. If this information is put in the manual we can delete this item from hikitsugi. 7.5 KSC pass conflicts (from previous week) ASCA conflicts cause the loss of about 10 KSC contacts per week at this time We do not know which contacts Yohkoh will lose until the weekly meeting. Santiago contacts occur on the same orbits as KSC contacts. Therefore, keep as many Santiago contacts as possible in the DSN Strawman and Preliminary Forecasts. 7.6 A Problem in OP_FIRST_GUESS (the week) This program produced an incorrect D/N time on the pass sheet for Pass 4, 990501-1237. This was the first pass of the weekend OP. OP_FIRST_GUESS was run twice, once for the weekend OP itself (starting at Pass 4) and once for the pass sheets alone (starting at Pass 1). The program produced a correct pass sheet for Pass 4 the first time, but not the second. 7.7 Campaigns There was an observing campaign with TRACE, Big Bear, Mees, and SXT to observe the active region (AR8518). This camapaign ended UT 12:00 on 29-Apr-99. There will be a SUMER Jet Study (Correspondent: D. Innes) May 3-16 1999, depending on SUMER health. === END ===
