SSOC Tohban's Report for Week 26 (21-Jun-99 -- 27-Jun-99) SSOC: K. Matsuzaki, H. Hudson KSC: Y. Yamauchi, Y. Hanaoka 0. Meeting Attendance Akiyama, Handy, Hudson, Martens, Sawa, Sterling, Watanabe (chair) -------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Solar Activity Solar activity remained high, but without major (>M) flares in spite of the predictions. There were about 5 M flares, of which Yohkoh will have good observations of some. Unfortunately we missed the peak of a very impulsive M flare on June 26. -------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Standard Operations 2.1 SXT Table Uploads The following SXT tables were uploaded during week 24: ===================================================== JST Date Pass Table ID ===================================================== Tue 22-Jun-99 2 990622 P2 ARS1 DAMAX01-1 Wed 23-Jun-99 2 990623 P2 ARS2 DIMAX01-1 Thu 24-Jun-99 4 990624 P1 ARS0 SERTS-0* Thu 24-Jun-99 5 990624 P5 ARS1 STMAX01-2* Fri 25-Jun-99 2 990625 P2 ARS1 STMAX01-2 Sat 26-Jun-99 2 990626 P2 ARS1 STMAX01-1 ===================================================== The "*" indicates that the UT date of the first pass of the day (which determines the Table ID) does not match the JST date of the actual upload. 2.2 STT Timer setting STT timer was scheduled for 22-Jun-99. Next setting Tuesday, 29-Jun. -------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Special Operations 3.1 HXT Calibrations We carried out regular HXT calibrations (once every 1.5 months) as follows: ===================================================== Pass ID UT Date Pass ===================================================== 990623-0827 23-Jun (Tue) 13:01 1 HXT CAL 990623-0930 23-Jun (Tue) 14:48 1 HXT CAL 990623-1033 23-Jun (Tue) 16:27 1 HXT CAL ===================================================== 3.2 SERTS rocket flight The SERTS rocket was launched successfully on June 24 at 17:00 UT, which fell between passes 4 and 5. The table upload for SXT support of the rocket was scheduled for pass 1 (passes 2 and 3 were lost to other ISAS missions), but an SEU was detected then. The KSC tohbans did everything right, recovering the SEU and uploading the table, and SXT successfully obtained good data. The SSOC tohbans made a potentially bad blunder, however - owing to an OPOGEDT mis-operation, an older version of the OP was uploaded, and this did not contain the CAMPAIGN mode commands. Thus we were just lucky to get data. The data showed a large, bright, and complicated active region that was not flaring. SXT got two exposure levels in each filter. -------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Errors and Problems 4.1 BCS Errors: Error discovered June 21, pass 1; cleared on pass 3. 4.2 SXT Errors: SEU discovered on pass 1, 24-jun, and recovered by pass 4 just in time for the SERTS rocket flight. -------------------------------------------------------------- 5. NASA Station Scheduling 5.1 Contact pass cancels/adds The following DSN/NASA passes were added/deleted: =================================================================== DSN/NASA Schedule Week Schedule Changes =================================================================== Final 26 7 cancels Real-time 26 1 cancel Final 27 1 cancel Preliminary 28 Not available from Wallops yet Strawman 29 Not available from Wallops yet =================================================================== 5.2 Data Transmission from NASA Ground Stations -(From /home/flare1/yohkoh/dsn_corrupt/99_26)--------------- 164 80 0927 corrupted tape requested 15 Jun Closed/ same data 166 80 0814 corrupted tape requested 21-Jun Closed/ same data 171 16 1101 missing requested 22-Jun no response requested 25-Jun -------------------------------------------------------------- 6. KSC Pass Conflicts and Schedule In Week 26, 10 KSC contacts lost . In Week 27, 9 KSC contacts lost Note: For future weeks, it would be nice if Yohkoh could get passes 4 and 5 prior to each weekend operation, and passes 1 and 2 immediately following. This would aid in DSN scheduling. -------------------------------------------------------------- 7. Hikitsugi Items 7.1 Tohbans for week 27 SSOC: S. Akiyama, S. Tsuneta KSC: Y. Yamauchi (-1), S. Yashiro 7.2 STT timer setting The next STT TIMER SET is due on pass 1 on 29-Jun-99. 7.3 Holiday Schedule The holiday will be July 4, 1999 (JST). 7.4 If possible, please schedule terminator opportunities on any weekend table (ie, if room permits). 7.5 KSC pass conflicts (from earlier weeks) ASCA conflicts cause the loss of about 10 KSC contacts per week at this time. We do not know which contacts Yohkoh will lose until the weekly meeting. Santiago contacts occur on the same orbits as KSC contacts. Therefore, keep as many Santiago contacts as possible in the DSN Strawman and Preliminary Forecasts. 7.6 Mainframe Replacement Mainframes will be replaced from 11-Jul(Sun) to 15-Jul(Thu). Caution when SSOC Tohbans make OPs. 7.7 Command glossary We need a shorthand glossary for common OP and command-sheet commands. This already exists pretty much in the Sakao manual in Japanese, and the Week 26 tohbans started accumulating an English version on "yohkoh.glossary" === END ===
